I agree Mustang, I was good friends with three of the fallen, All enjoyed a good time and I believe would have liked us to continue to have fun and celebrate their lives. I had my period of mourning for each, two of which hit me very very hard. The two who were also very good acquaitances with a lot of us, Hunter and his father Jeff.

I miss all three, Hunter, Jeff and Buddy very much and will give them a proper eulogy when I start my memorial to each.

I went back through my posts back to late 2016 a few days ago to find the posts and record the timing. Re-reading those post brought the feeling flooding back from Jeff's final words written by Hunter to Jill's very sad announcement about Hunter's accident.

Then remembering Mopar Madness' (Chad) researching Buddy's disappearance. Wow, it's been tough research into times I rather not remember so vividly. 

God speed my friends. I hope to do you proud!

Bill, me old mate. Yes this is a memorial build, but I think 'respectful' is the key word. We want to remember our mates and enjoy our builds and the interaction, but we don't want it to be funerial. I'm in for Toshi as I didn't know the others. He was such a positive bloke and I have no doubt he would want it to be a happy space. No offence mate.

First of all, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for instigating the "Stooges" incident.  Like the dummy I am, I had no idea I was acting in a disrespectful manner.

Second of all, I'd like to get off my henie and show some progress on the Tamiya 1/72 Corsair being built in honor of Toshi.

Amazingly, fit is not 100% as expected, but is not insurmountable.  The cockpit is very detailed though, superior to anything Hasegawa has put out in this scale.

Can't wait to see you get started on this G!!

Well given the fact that I built one of these somewhere around 15 years ago and I remembered that the stance was nose high.....I decided to do a mock up to check everything out and it was just what I expected.....it has a nose high/ ass down look to it. I have a spare AMT GT-350 in the stash so I cut the necessary parts from the sprues and mocked everything up on that car. Man .....there's gonna be some fancy foot work to straighten this out if I'm going to get this thing to look like 1.) the box top ( which is severely misleading if a builder thinks that this kit will build up just like the picture) and 2.) look like I want it to personally. 

On a couple of other notes......

1.) Pay close attention to the attachment wheel retainers ( I marked "R" for rear and "F" for the front to remember what was what come assembly time.) They are different sizes meaning that the rear retainer has a larger hole for the axle than the fronts do for the spindles.

2.) The box top shows Firestone "Wide Oval" tires and the kit has Firestone "Super Sports" instead.  I mean what tha hell???? I mean it's not a game changer but hey AMT...put what's ON the box IN the box. Same goes for the stance....just sayin.

You will all be pleased to know that I took Gamera's advice and ordered a 1/48 Tamiya Corsair yesterday, should be here in about a fortnight. I'm thinking of finishing it in Kiwi colours, as the RNZAF operated a number of them.

Ferg: Thank you for the votes of confidence. A Tamiya Corsair.....you will NOT be disappointed with that kit.

Got the suspension mods done. I relocated the spindles on the front steering knuckles and modded the knuckles to allow the front tire/ wheel assemblies to be located under the fender where they belong instead of sticking out slightly which was another chronic problem with these kits. All the rear springs needed was just some slight re-arching. Now she's starting to look more like what I'm wanting with an ever so slight forward rake:

Neal: You are going to enjoy your Corsair there. That is the very kit I'm working on and it offers little issues. I'm excited to see you build this. I'll be posting my work here shortly. I started mine in 2016 and, as such, I had to track down all of my progress photos.

Ferg: Fanatstic choice for your Corsair. The Tamiya kit is the gold standard in 1/72 & 1/48. I know that you will have fun with it and will do it justice.

   Your rework is paying dividens Mustang, it really does look like the Mustang I have seen. 

   Neal, I know what work you are capable of....you will master the Corsair.

   Joe, looking forward to seeing your progress as well.

     I need to pull mine off the shelf and see what I got going on with it. It is the old Revell kit and will more than likely be finished OOB. Not to procrastinate more than neccessary but I'm elbow deep in U.S. tax codes and law for a promotion at my job.

    I will also be intouch with the Mob through other channels to ask for help posting my own pix....again. Also GREAT JOB so far Ferg....see you have what it takes to run this. Looking forward to your Kiwi build as well.

As you can see on this old AMT Mustang box top...the front wheels actually stick outside of the fenderwell some. Just crazy. As mentioned in my last build post...I have taken steps to counter this whole terrible look. Can't believe they actually put that thing on the box cover like that.

The chassis and the proper stance have been the topic of this build so far but now we're going to get into some actual progress. One of the things that surpised me was Fords usage of red oxide primer on the bottom side of these cars. Never saw any of that on mine but hey.....by the time I owned those cars it was a good 25 years on down the line.

Alright Compadres, It's time get things rolling on my end.

First, I want to thank Ferg for giving me license to finish up this Corsair. I'm quite a ways along with it. I started it on Father's day 2016 to honor my father who actually had some flight time in the Corsair. I shelved it in early 2018 when I hit a mental block at the gloss coating/ panel lining stage.

I had a WIP thread going here and Toshi was an active follower of my build. Him and I shared the same passion for the Corsair. It only seemed appropriate that I finish this in his honor as well as my fathers.

When I began this build I was, like many others, utilizing Photobucket for my photos. Since then came the "Great Photobucket Debacle" that threw a wrench at many of us. I thought I had saved all of my pics but, seem to be missing a few. Also, at the time I was using my little Olympus point and shoot camera which did not take the best photos. I have since upgraded to a better Canon and will reshoot some pics.

With that, I will piece meal my progress up til now and get the stage set for continuing on, Which, by the way, I need to jog my head back to where I was at, what was I doing and what did I have planned.

Not pictured is the resin cowling flaps and for the life of me I cannot remember the manufacturer.

I have to get ready for work now. I will continue with my progress this evening.
