I started the engine off here guys. Man.....some of that stuff just had to GO!! The blob for a carburetor and that P-51 Mustang fan/ prop were just too much for me and WILL be replaced by better AM offerings (in the foreground in the following picture).

Here's the OOB layout:

Exhaust manifolds had alot of flash on 'em but then again....so did the rest of the engine.

and after. The ejector pin mark slag was originally left alone as I thought it would serve as  a locator/ standoff against the engine block to locate the manifold correctly in relation to the rest of the exhaust but I cut them off later on.

A shot of the manifolds cleaned up:

Thanks Ferg! I loved that car and don't know how many miles I put on her. I'm sure by the time I sold her off in 2002 I had probably put 150k + on the old car. It was just that fun to drive. I never dyno'd the engine but I'm fairly certain I was around the 350 hp mark and that wasn't bad for the early 90's.

I'm making plans for Omaha but I MAY just be able to get to San Antonio. Not only did I grow up in Texas bu I have a great friend from the Coast Guard and who Lives in San Antonio that I'd love to see again. We'd have to fly though,  so probably no entrys.

Mustang,

Getting to meet the "FSM Mob" was the highlight of the whole trip!  It goes to show that it's the people that make things special.  I can't make Omaha next year, but I'll keep an open mind for San Marcos.  I DO like Texas BBQ!

The Corsair will be like a vacation, since it blessed with superlative fit and well, it's a Tamiya!

Yeah ol' Joe and Steve are some good folks. I haven't talked much to Mongoose or to you a whole lot but this'll be the perfect opportunity to take care of that.

Real G

I just ordered some FAA decals from the Big H across the pond for my Corsair.  I exhumed the kit and will post pics when the decals arrive.  Other than decals this will be OOTB.

Looking forward to seeing that Corsair build in action. Heard that you, Rix, Mongoose, modelcrazy and Armornut met up at the Nats. Sounded like you all had a great time at that. I'm looking forward to the San Marcos Show in 2023. Can't wait.

Got a picture or two of the engine. A 35W from a '69 Mach 1 with 4 barrel heads, Comp Cams 280H cam, Mallory Unilite Ignition and a Holley 650 Double Pumper. With 11:1 compression I needed octane booster or VERY high octane fuel on every fill up. Note: NEVER do that on a street engine. 9.5:1 is about as far as you wanna go.

Looks like I'll be kicking this off with some of the goodies and some back story.

I've been wanting to build this car for a very long time and am glad to be in this thread to dedicate it to our long time friends. I've owned a total of 3 '67 Mustangs  My last one was my favorite as it had a 351W with a 4 speed and 3.55 gears and it just so happened to be the same Acapulco Blue that the kit boxing has. Fun car and had ALOT of fun driving it through the years.

Dodgy,

Also put me down for Lewbud.

A 1/144 Puma Tigermeet. He loved Tigermeet markings.

I'll probably start on it first.

Dodgy, this is indeed a beautiful and noble effort for a GB. Thank You very much for the idea and for heading it up. You will do just fine running the GB and you certainly will have plenty of support and assistance.

Toshi and I shared the same passion for the Corsair and often chatted concerning them. As such, here is my proposal for my entry here. In 2016 I started building a 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1D Corsair. Toshi was an encouraging and enthusiastic follower of my WIP. I eventually ran out of steam on it and shelved it even though it was fairly close to completion. If it is alright with you I would love to complete that build here in honor of Toshi. I will also plan on building an F4U-1A after I finish that one up.

Again, Thanks Dodgy. It will certainly be a wonderful journey.

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss JR215. I am 64 and 67 is way too young. Enjoy your build and the memories it brings.

I've got you JR215, a Revell 1/48 Corsair for Toshi. Tell me about your dad.

Cheers

Ferg

my dad died July 9th thís year.  He had been fighting a rare form of cancer for a while.  It got to the point where they were only holding it back, rather than fighting it.  We knew the end wasn't far off, but, it still came too soon. He was only 67...
he wasn't really any kind of aviation nut, but loved history, mainly WWII history.  He had always mentioned that his favorite warbirds was the Corsair.

Hey there Dodgy.

I honor of Hunter and his dad, I'll build the 1/48 Revell Do 335 Phiel OOB. It seems like something they would build. Might take me some time before I start though.

I can get you a picture later if you want one
