The F-5 is looking Great AA. Nice work.  I have a 1/72 fujimi TA-4J that I want to build as an agressor --  just waiting for someone to release some decals!

OK gang, since I'm just sitting around waiting for some parts to be delivered to finish up my Lighting and Tigercat (for the Animalistic GB), I've decided to jump back in with a couple more submissions. (You know what they say about idle hands...) One of them I'll submit as a crossover to the Lockheed GB.

I was able to snatch up Hasegawa's F-16B and some additional goodies for free. I bought a few things from a vendor at a swap meet, and he threw in the kit as a bonus. Apparently, he got it from someone else and he couldn't sell it. He told me that it was a mix of parts and wouldn't  build up to an "accurate" -B or -D model. There was a resin "covered" exhaust, some resin ejection seats, and a sheet of Two Bobs decals in the box. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, a brought it home.

I know very little about F-16 variants and their assorted blocks. From what I have been able to figure, this is a -B with the "big" engine but not the big intake. Or, if you prefer, a -D with the small gear doors, intake, and incorrect main wheels. I didn't even try to figure out any cockpit differences. Eh...I don't care. I build for fun. I come from the If-It-Looks-Like-A(n)-(Insert Select Aircraft Here)-Then-It's-A(n)-(Insert Select Aircraft Here) school, so I'm going to build it. Only the hardest of the hardcore will know that my F-16 is "wrong."

This will be my crossover to the Lockheed GB. No, it's not "accurate," but when you can't build the one you want, build the one you got. Right?

My second submission will be Revell's P-39 Airacobra. It'll be OOB with the addition of some resin wheels. I'm not sure on the markings yet, but I know it'll be a -Q. I like the big ol' honkin' barrel sticking out of the spinner, and the .50 cal. gun pods haning under the wings. Looking at the parts, it seems to be much less complicated that the Tigercat and Lightning I just tackled. This should be a nice easy build. (Famous last words, eh?)

So, having said all that...away we go!

Happy modeling!

That's great!  I did an A-4 as a Top Gun Aggressor, but in 1/48 scale.  Got the decals from Microscale; maybe you can find them out there in 1/72 scale?

Alright, the F-5E in "Snake" Aggressor scheme is finally DONE.  Final reveal pics below.  Castel, you can use photo #5 of this series for the front page gallery; thanks.  Hope you all enjoy it!

Great job gents, your work looks awesome.

I too have been slowly working on my Mustang while waiting for the replacement parts that came in but are just a tad better than the kit’s so I will take that to the bank so to speak. Revell sent me 3 canopies and are different types.

The wing panel lines were puttied up to the center of the wing just like they did back then then shot silver enamel paint on most of the bottom wing and all of the top wing as this was the process done on the later Mustangs. Gloss black was sprayed and then was polished with Novus 2 to get a glass smooth finish. I experimented with a couple of panels and shot gloss dark grey to get contrast and break up the solid polished aluminum color yet to come.

Alclad Polished Aluminum was sprayed but allowing some of the dark base color to peak thru for the metal tonal shades.

It takes a bit more surface prep work but the extra effort pays off.

Hey you Animals (See what I did there?) I am presenting my finished Tigercat. I'm glad this one's done. It was a very enjoyable build, up until the point that I had to get her standing on her gear. (Ugh!)

Anyway, here she is...

Hey castelnuovo, you can use this one as the glory shot for the main page:

Thanks for the fun gang! My plan is to submit a couple more before the GB ends. Wish me luck!

Cheers,

Most impressive work from ALL OF YOU. This 1/72 F-86D is a way bit small for me.

Race 'ya...

Built both kits in my youth-hoping to do a better job this time around on the drag version.  Interesting stories behind both cars-well worth time spent on Google.

I seem to recall that the version you posted was on the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.'-one of my favorite TV shows at the time.

Looking good Nick!  I like that anti-glare panel - kinda unique color which contrasts well against the NMF

Thanks,

John

G'day Animals, sorry I have been slack in updating and building.

CN - love the Wasp, have to say driving around in a Jeep with a napalm bomb on the back would make me very nervous. Nice painting and detail - there is a lot in the engine bay.

PJ - great detail in the gear bays, looks super! The effort for the NMF is paying off, that shine - the level of polish on the drop tank is amazing.

AA, nice cockpit recovery and great scheme on the 'Snake' Tiger - hmmm, wonder if a different name would suit it...

And the finished model has hit the spot - looking very sinister yet familiar.

Omar, super work there, love the look of the Tigercat. Great work with the finish and the weathering. never really took in how thin the fuselage was before.

And as ever you're straight onto the next builds. I am with you in the 'looks right, is right' camp, with variations depending on my emotional attachment to the model (which can decrease rapidly through a build) and the price of the kit!

Nick, Great NMF for you too, great panel variation, are you using the S&J I can see in the background? And I do like the JASDFdecals too.

For me, time for a Winjeel update. Since last time I have assembled and painted the cockpit area in a bright green as per instructions.

I had also painted the fuselage halves to go with it. After this photo I had the nose area bonded together and ready to slip over the top of the cockpit as per instructions.

Small issue, when I did the final push to click the firewall end into place, a little crack and the seam popped open and several internal bits broke off. So change my approach and try again.

John. thankyou I like the usaf green beter then the black. I do use SnJ powder for small panels, but I do miss the SnJ spray metal a lot. Yes on the Winjeel.

I gave a misty coat of tamiya flat clear and I love the Tamiya dark gray pannel liner..

typical small stuff to do ..

Got some painting done on the canopy, partial anti glare panel, prop spinner, windscreen and rudder. The checkered rudder decal had to be trimmed to make it fit properly. I shot the rudder white then red and tested tge trimmed decal that looks good to my eyes.

Will start on the checkered nose soon.

Thanks Crown, your Sabre looks sweet. Great job with the NMF.

Very happy how well the nose checkerboard  decals came out being separated into 6 parts lining up very nicely. The decal film is very thin and of excellent quality. Lifelike Decals are fantastic. Lots of Solvaset helped to snuggle things down specially near the prop area.

Mary has 14 kill marks on the canopy frame so it's best not to *** her off lol!

Hey gang, I'm really enjoying everyone's progress. There's some great lookin' work going on! Speaking of progress, I was able to get my F-16 B/Dish Fighting-Falcon-Viper started.

Started out with getting the cockpits and seats built up.

A problem was, these resin seats did not have the canopy breakers that the 1:1 ACES seats have.

So, I had to improvise. I cut the breakers from the kit's plastic seats and glued them onto the resin ones.

Not perfect but under some paint and the closed canopy, they'll pass muster.

I was able to get the fuselage halves and wings slapped together.

After dealing with a some seams, I glued the canopy on, too.

That's where things are as of now. Hopefully I'll be able to post some more progress soon. Stay tuned! In the mean time, keep up all the great work!
