Finally, some progress.

Yeah, it looks like the padded areas would have some kind of tough, flexible outer layer of ballistic/ablative anti-laser material with artificial muscles underneath.  The helmet has a solid visor, so it has a similar indirect sight as the Mercenaries' SAFS suit.

I know this is all sci-fi, but this fighting suit concept seems more practical than a bulky mechanical exoskeleton.  I can see the army developing something like this in the near future.

And I guess it is 'soft shell' compared to the armoured suit.

I would like to throw in with a weird one - a next-gen fighting suit from the Maschinen Krieger line:

Everything about it is weird, from the "Soft Shell" name to the kit manufacturer (Love Love Garden).

Not many parts to the kit:

A little waprage to the optional helmet.  A dunk in hot water should fix this.

A comparison to a "normal" MaK armored fighting suit.

This kit is all about seam cleanup and painting, typical for a figure kit I suppose.

As I posted over on the Figures forum that's cool Pawel and I'm looking forward to seeing him come to life!

Ben - I like the Spartans a lot, and the base is very nice, too! The German is very good as well.

PhilliePhan79 - The Mandalorian turned out great, the metallic coats stand out!

Dodgy - that's an interesting figure you got there. Funny thing, I'd say "Ulan" is a Polish word, but "ulans" are mounted soldiers. Good luck with the assembly and I hope your wife gets well soon!

I started working on the parts:

First thing to do would be to correct the pose a little - to place the stock of the grenade launcher in a place where it could absorb the recoil without hurting nobody. When I looked at the box first I thought we have to do with careless assembly here, but no - there's a hole in the shoulder of the figure (pointed to by a red arrow) to make you put the stock exactly like on the photo. Well the hole will be filled and I already pinned al the joints to help me make the pose better. I'll be using milliput for that, pics coming soon!

Dodgy: You're getting there! I hate trying to remove mold lines when they go into folds etc. Trying to clean them up over intricate detail is the only thing worse- and you're dealing with both... 

Well the clean up on this bloke is just about done. A lot of very fine mold lines that run deep and are hard to remove. They have also run across some of the fine detail and merged with it, so a bit challenging. Next is undercoat and paint.

Great job there Robert, you did a great job capturing Pitt's likeness! 

How about the first Spartan photo with the white background and the center commander coming at you. As for the German street fighter, I kind of like the fourth one which shows a full view of the structure and his uniform. 

Thanks again everyone for allowing me to participate in the GB. Like most GB's I've learned something from my peers and was happy to share my little contribution. Hope to see more accomplishments posted here in the future.

That Mandalorian kit turned out great!

Looking forward to your build, Dodgy.

I finished off my project last night with a base.  Nothing special, just a scrap wood block with a hole drilled in it.  As I delve deeper into the world of resin busts, that is my one gripe: none of the kits I build had a base.

All in all, a fun kit and I will be starting something new in the near future that will fit into the GB....

I have seen the Molotow chrome pen at both my local hobby store and art supply stores.  To be clear the armor was achieved with Alclad chrome.  Only the buckles and design on the thigh armor were done with pen.  For such small metallic detail it excels.

Ben and Jarrod, what can I say? Truly stunning work! The base is fantastic and I love the idea that each figure can be lifted off individually. Beautiful figures superbly painted. Which pic do you want me to use? The German trooper is brilliant as well. 

I must apologise to everyone for my recent abscence. My wife was admitted to hospital before Christmas with some serious health issues and is still there. Then I have had some major issues acessing the site. Anyway, here is what I will be working on.

In closing I'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy new year and I hope you are all ok in this terrible winter weather that is being reported on our TV.

Calling the Mandalorian.  Really fun build!  This was my first figure ever.  I will have to get the Boba Fett to pair with him on the shelf.  

The only thing that I didn't like about this kit were the fit of the weapons into the various hands.  So you'll notice his spear and gun are holstered.

While waiting for supplies and figuring out the Spartan base Jarrod and I got another "figure done as well; "WW2 German Street Fighter"

I think the title line pretty much sums up the model. Sold through Andrea Miniatures, this figure has a wonderful sculpt. The pose and facial expressions are superb. To add to the overall image is a wonderful base. The city sidewalk, both walls, and window frame make up the majority of the base. Sorry, No work-in-progress thread for this one.

Jarrod and I added the German propaganda poster from an real WW2 on-line image printed to scale, torn, and weathered. We also added glass shards to the window frame along with broken pieces on the sill and ground. On the figure we used lead foil for the MP40 sling and the gas mask canister strap. Other items we added to the kit include a metal wire for the folded shoulder stock, shoulder, collar insignia, and Iron Cross award ribbon on button (Tamiya decal spares), and a metal / PE Iron Cross on the left *** pocket (spares). 

Paints used were from Tamiya, Vallejo, MMaster, and LifeLike. Additional colors added with pastels, washes, and water colors.

His final home will be in a clear display cube. We are overall very happy with the results.

The Mandalorian is looking great, and those fantasy figures look like they are nicely molded. I'm looking forward in seeing how the come out when finished. Nice work all around!

Well, an update for the Spartan build string is over due, so.....

The foam base was enhanced with numerous model railroad terrain supplies along with sifted dirt and rock from my property. There was also a plethora of enamel and acrylic paints used to achieve the colors (more than whats shown).







Here is how the foam base ended up. The open areas are where the figures will go. I decided that the figures would be posed together, but they can also be taken out to be seen individually.



The pine wood base was stained in medium oak twice and then clear coated. And here is the completed base.



I was also asked about the gold color used for the armor and shields, well here it is. Much like molotow silver, but in gold. Just a word of caution, it also reacts much like Molotow, so clear coating is a must.



The other delays were figure related, specifically detail painting, finishing the multicolored textures on the capes, designing and painting up the shields, and weathering. Speaking of shields, after some research Jarrod and I chose the following Spartan Shield designs.







And here are a couple of the templates we created and used to apply the design to the shields. A modeling friend explained to me the origins of the design. Regarding the shield, though, it's a lambda, Λ, the Greek "L". It stood for "Laconia", Sparta's country, and "Lakodaemon", an ancient name for the city itself. 



And above all, here is my helper who assisted in many of the steps of the build process, my son Jarrod.



Finally, after numerous applications to both shields and capes we are calling these figures D-O-N-E.

SCALE: 100mm

MATERIAL: Resin

PAINTS: Tamiya, MMaster, Vallejo, LifeLike, watercolors, and pastels.

OTHER: Base and spear shafts made from scratch
