Sigh [sigh]
I need some councilling.

Oh, I tried some Pledge on one of the panels I painted with the Alclad 2 White Aluminium, and it altered the finish by something like a poofteenth of a shade.

Just thought I'd try it out for giggles sake, a bit of aded protection for the BMF.
Will do the whole plane after I'm done painting the tail etc.

Tweety,

I do know how you feel, that small imperfection in the model that nobody else is going to notice but you know about drives you absolutely nuts because it's the first thing your eye is drawn too when you look at your creation. Grumpy [|(]

Oh yeah, congrats on your 500th Party [party]Party [party]. I don't even want to think about how much time I spend here.

Jules,

I've just been fighting the same battle with my shark mouth. I must have used about half a bottle of Micro Sol to get the thing to settle down OK. I'm using Victory Productions Aces of the Empire and while the decals are beautifully printed they do need the old Micro Sol to snuggle down.

As part of that decal set you get Clive Caldwell’s Spitfire Mk.VIII which I don't plan on using at the moment, so if you want I can mail them up to you. Here's a pic

If you want it the decals are yours, but there are no roundels with it as I have used them on my Spit.

Cheers

Just a question.
Would the Sharks mouth be to difficult to mark out and paint?

Say, using some low tack film, like Mask It.
I just used this stuff to do the markings for the tail and to mask off the wheel wells on my Sabre, and its wonderful.

Just a thought.Smile [:)]

Tweety,

Nothing is impossible, but that would be a little beyond my meagre skills. Most of the teeth are very small and cutting out masks for them would be, um interesting.

Also, where did you buy the Mask It from, I don't think I have ever seen this product.

Well here's where i am with the Spit.............

You can see the Sharks mouth decals that wouldn't go on, even after a half an hour trying to get them on with solution there still as strong as......
Tweets you can see how hard they would be to paint on, while it's not impossible i certainly won't be trying it ( past my patience barrier and skill level )..........
Fellas never ever buy decals from decals carpena, not only where they ultra thick the fueselage roundels where way to small so i tried to use some roundels from aussie decals mustang set which iv'e had for 6 years and got this.........

After that i taxed the roundels from my Caldwell ICM set which are fragile but work well..

Darson thanks for the offer mate but i have a set of decals for caldwells machine from the ICM kit, i also sent a spare set of Caldwells decals to Tweety1's, keep them handy though mate cause these ICM decals are a little iffy and seem to be very fragile when hit with setting solution, be very carefull with them Tweets.......
Thanks again for the offer Darson if i can't get this Shark Attack decal sheet and the ICM ones fall apart i may have to hit you up for them............Thumbs Up [tup]

MadMike i was planning on starting the CAC Sabre thing in JAN but theres no set time line so if you wan't to get started go for it...............Big Smile [:D]

BTW iv'e got another starParty [party] another 500 posts for the next oneSigh [sigh]
Cheers Jules...............

A bit of good news for all - the new Roden F2.B Brisfit comes complete with markings for two different acft from No 1 SQN AFC. I received the F2.B and the SE5a from NKR yesterday. Thats very good service I reckon as I ordered them thursday and they arrived in Wodonga on the monday! If only all mail order could be like that.

The F2.B comes complete with an engine that can be built exposed as well. So my next models look like they will be some biplanes. F2.B, SE5a and yes the SMER Tiger moth. The tiger moth is definately $10 worth of kit, it comes complete with moulded on markings. Sigh [sigh]

Looks like every one is doing well on the group build, remember it is due to finish at the end of this month.

Some how, don't now how yet, I hope to finish my Spit in time, have had many distractions in the last few weeks that have cut my Sad [:(]modeling time to almost zeroSad [:(]. And now I find that next week I have to move my modeling set up from one room to another. (been trying to do this for a while, then out of the blue, the Minister for Home and Finance gave her [:0][:0]approval for the move, providing it is done next week[:0][:0])

J.S. & Darren The shark tooth decal is the reason why I picked the other version of the kit, didn't think that it would settle down all that good.

Tweety & J.S. Party [party]Party [party]Congratuations on your third stars
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Got it from frontlinehobbies.com.
Their based in Newcastle.
Kinda stumbled on it, I ordered some Alclad cleaner and Parafilm, but the Alclad leaked in the bag and stuffed the film, asked for a replacement, they didn't have any at the time, so they sent this stuff.
And it really is great gear!

Thanks for the advice Jules, will be gentle with the roundels.
If they fall apart, I'll just use some Mask It and paint them.

Had a bit of a mishap with the decals last night. When I was applying the long black upper wing don't walk here lines (you know the ones I mean), one of them got hopelessly twisted while I was trying to move it Banged Head [banghead].

I couldn't have one without the other so I deep sixed both of them. Que sera sera, it's a field applied scheme anyway, so I figure stencils would be at a minimum Cool [8D]

Jules I meant to ask you, what sort of setting solution are you using? Because I have found that even using Micro Sol it takes overnight for the decals to properly dry out and conform to the curves. I'll try for a progress shot tonight.

Cheers

Darren, I remember reading somewhere that the foilage green painted acft had most of their stencils overpainted and not replaced. So I dare say that for a field expedient paint job it would be exactly the same, so you could probably ditch more of the stencils if you wanted to.

Just forpeoples referance, the Mask It stuff is GREAT for fine line masking and painting.
I was going to use the kit decals for my Sabre, but decided to use the Mask It for the dont walk lines etc, and paint them.
Works a treat!Smile [:)]Smile [:)]
Hoping to have some pics this weekend of near completion, must go slowly, this is usually where I stuff something up[:0]Angry [:(!]

Dont mean to harp on about the Mask It,SoapBox [soapbox], but it really is all that and a bag o' chips!Approve [^]

As for the Micro Set/Sol, here I have no problem with it drying, cause of the dry heat/cold, but to make it faster wher you guys are, wait a couple of minutes for the decal to soften, and hold a hair dryer about 30 cm's away on low.
My 2 cents [2c]

It works, did it on a humid day.
Patience is not my virtue!

Darson ahhh yes those decalsEvil [}:)]i had a little bit of trouble with those too, mainly keeping them in a straight line, but i managed to get them on OK....
Before soaking them i cut them at the 90% angle so i had 2 decals for the wing instead of the one, figured it would be almost impossible to put them on in one peice, but if i had known that the Aussie Spits probably didn't have them on i would have quite happily binned themThumbs Up [tup]
BTW i use Gunze Mr Mark Softer, can't really compare it to anything else cause iv'e never used anything else.......

Well, it happened........[:0]Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Sigh [sigh]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Boohoo [BH]

There I was, completed the decals except for the R/W/B banner on the tail.
Picked the Sabre up gingerly to rotate it, and she slipped out of my fingers......

Banged onto the edge of the bench, and as I grabbed it, the centre line at the top of the fuselage split from behind the cockpit to the tip of the tail............Disapprove [V]

Just spent the last 2 hours stripping back the Alclad and fixing the seam.
Hopefully it wont show too much after I apply the Alclad again.

Thought things were going to well.

On a side note, the decals don't stick too well, the adhesive backing is pretty weak, had some of the ID numbers come off with the 10mm Tamiya masking tape, and even with the Mask It, and that stuff is REALLY low tack.

And I need you guys help.
What colour blue would you use for roundels?????
I need to paint the banner on the tail, but I need to know the right tone of blue to suit RAAF markings.

Well, back to the bench.Sigh [sigh]

I have done that before myself and know the feeling of your heart leaping into your throat as your model plummets towards the floor.

OUCH!!!

I dread the thought of dropping a model and have had my fair share of mishaps. They can really be heart breaking Sad [:(]

In regards to the decals not adhering properly. Try and bed them down with Future (or Pledge). There should be no discernable effect to the finish of the Alcad BMF.

Been a good group build gents. I enjoyed building the 737-300 and plan to build another at some time (sooner than later)

cheers

This has been my first GB and I've had a ball, despite some of my mishaps.

I'm definitely looking forward to next year's kicking off!!!

Progress has been slow on my Spity. Over the last three days I have managed to put a whole two decals on the plane. Tonight Question [?] Question [?] I will try and finish off the remainder of the decals so I can start wrapping this thing up and get moving on the Mustang I have been avoiding for months.

Jules; I would love to have finished my spit, but it is still in the early stages due to many interruptions that have prevented me from doing much modeling over the last couple of months, and now I am in the middle of change of room and setting up a new modeling area.

Like you I am wondering what has happen to some of the other modellers that said that they were joining us.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Thanks for that darson, will try and get some before the end of the month.

Managed to fix the seam, and hit it with some Alclad 2, there is a discernable mark where the repair was done, but after all the messing around over the last 2 months, I have forced myself into accepting this is a difficult build.

Will finish off what I can, and put it all in the 'experience' folder for the next Sabre I do.

Can't beleive I want to do another one, must be having a psychotic episode or sumthing.
