thnx reb. to answer no, its not the lindberg kit. its a metal set, from someone down in the hampton roads area called thoroughbred i think. i got the set back in april or may when i was down there last, at the mariners museum (awesome) where they have the monitor's turret and other artifacts from that famous vessel being preserved. its in 1/600 scale, all metal. i'll also start on what i had planned to do, but no way ill finish that in time.

hope you're all doing well!!

progress report ===> with PAINT!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Big Smile [:D]

here we go:

painted and washed. decals tomorrow!!

the darker gray (i used the two standard Canadian grays used on CF-18's) was brush-painted on, cuz i wassn't doing well with the airbrushBanged Head [banghead]. ohwell, it still looks ok i think.

although it doesn't show well in the photo, the wash i used made the model look filthy. typical 'canadian aircraft weathering'. lol our fighters are sooo dirty. the wash was mineral spirits and artists' oils.

i painted the camo patter to resemble F-15's and F-22's. this is the nose pattern close-up

here's the landing gear struts painted aluminum and weathered on the sprue. Rafales have unpainted gear struts, which I likeBig Smile [:D]

t34, the paints i used were Light Gray and Medium Gray, both from Gunze. Light Gray is FS#36375 (Gunze#H308), and the medium gray is FS#35237 (Gunze#H337).

For Christmas i'm not expecting any new kits, nor do i really want any more. I have a couple of unbuilt ones, and I'm not exactly the type that collects unbuilt kits..

awesome lookin rafale jay liang. the camo pattern looks great. how's everyone else doin?

reb- i didnt get the exact measurements of the turret my friend, its sitting in a huge tank of water + some kind of preservative. when i went, i could barely see the top of it, it was so clouded up with material from the growth on the turret itself. as for the kit, top surface to top surface, id say the turret was aroud 1/6 or so. im guessing here, but that's waht id say. ill have to check to be certain.

great!!!

About the badge, scer feel free to put it on. Normally I wouldn't want people to have the badge unless they had completed the build. But this on is different. This is a very unique GB and it lets the Members of the forum know who we are. So go ahead and keep it.

Hey gringe, I was looking at the list and it said you were doing a Kuble wagon radio version. What ever happend to it? did you switch your build somewhere down the line and I forgot to change the list?

thanks for the comments!

i have to say i'm pretty disappointed in Leading Edge, cuz the decals that I used performed rather poorly. First of all, i didn't see any silvering when i applied them, so i wasn't expecting them to show under the flat coat. but they did!Disapprove [V] and what's worse, some of the decals disintigrated!! i was going to do the markings of 410 sqdn, but the cougar emblem broke into 2 pieces when i tried to stick them on!!Banged Head [banghead]

and the canada flag on the right side of the fin was shattered tooAngry [:(!], but i somehow managed to get it back together on the model.Angry [:(!]

sorry for the complaints.. Thanks again for the kind words!Big Smile [:D]

nice build. You airbrushed and then handbrushed? why was that? nice camo, I've always liked two tone grey camo schemes. well done.
