VACUFORM –Any Aircraft Subject (Starts 2/1/05 Ends 9/30/05)

Here is your chance to participate in a group build and to test and expand your modeling skills at the same time. Posting this well ahead of time so you can find a kit, gather your reference material, and clear some space on the workbench. This will be a challenging GB for those of us who have never built a vacuform kit. I hope some experienced vacuform builders will join in and help us rookies along. So who’s in? Added an "end" date.

Subject: Any vacuform aircraft kit. Any scale. Any era. Aftermarket is OK.

Start: February 1, 2005

Ends: September 30, 2005

Let's reconfirm here that I'm very much in with my 1/48 Scimitar from Dynavector. Could you ask Lawrence or any other admin to post a link in the GB sticky in the Aircraft forum too? It's easier to browse that way, and everybody will still end up here so there's no double threads or anything. I tend to go there almost daily anyway to see what my Prototypes GB brethren are up to Wink [;)].

Well, here I am, where do I sign...Big Smile [:D].

Can't tell you what I'm going to make, next week I'm going to Antwerp to look for a vac-form kit. The shop in Antwerp is the only shop that I know of where I can get a limited selection of vac-form kits.
At least, I hope they still have some...

Oh btw, we'll need a batch too.

Nice international field we’re putting together for this build so far.

I’ll have to order-up a patch/badge as I’m not very talented at computer graphics.

I did email Mr. Hansen to list this in the Aircraft GB’s too.

Okay, folks, you've been added (well, this thread has been added) to the Group Builds sticky at the top of the aircraft forum. Good luck - and don't forget to post photos of the finished masterpieces!

I hope I'll find one in Antwer otherwise I'm afraid I won't be doing this GB Sad [:(]

Don't panic Dany. Although I do consider Belgium to be one of modeling's mekka's, maybe it's a little behind on the vacform front. I got my kit from Hannants in London (went there on a pilgrimageTongue [:P]), who seemed to have quite a selection of kits. As you probably know, they also sell over the internet. An option a little closer to home (for me at least Wink [;)]) is the Luchtvaart Hobbyshop in Aalsmeerderbrug, near Schiphol. That shop is as big as Hannants (maybe even bigger) and stocks a LOT of kits. When I was there last I did see some huge vacform kits, but I wasn't really looking for any so check their website for info on their selection. Check the prices though. My Scimitar retails at 55 euro's from Hannants and 80 from the LHS now!
I'll add the links to the websites:
http://www.hannants.co.uk/
http://www.lhshop.nl/lhshop.asp
I just found Aeroclub's website, and they don't just sell their own products. Check it out:
http://www.aeroclub-models.com/index.html

I hope this will help you in your quest!

Already saved that one to the harddisk as soon as I saw it. I'll have to actually read it a few times before I start on the Scimitar though! Good stuff.

Yes...... I've found one, you can officially count me in for the "Welsh Models Airliner...British Aerospace 146-200 from Loganair"

By the way, if you ask why I chose this model ; simpel they only had two vac-form kits, both the same model Smile [:)]

Laugh [(-D] Well that was easy then, wasn't it? And I must say it could have been a lot worse. The 146 is a very attractive little jet!

Dan, I'm actually from Belgium (Liège) but lives in the UK, in Kent, right between Dover and London. That Embraer kit, I ordered it from Hannants. Are the Welsh Models kits readily available where you are? Would have thought you could simply order it online as I did, or do as Filibert did, make the pilgrimage to the Colindale (North of London) shop..!

I could help you with an excuse you could use for visiting Hannants: tell the wife there's a cool museum there (Hendon Bomber Command museum). Tell her you want to have a quick look around. Travel to the museum by subway (Colindale station, I believe the orange line on the map), and upon exiting the station act very surprised to find a model shop there! Worked for meWink [;)].

Oh yes, that rings a bell! Serves me right for giving travel info without checking a map! I'm amazed I got it right when I was in LondonClown [:o)]. By the way, no matter what Londoners say: that tube system rocks! I know they don't always run, but when they do (and that's most of the time) they get you anywhere... including to a nice hobby shopWink [;)].

Thanks for the advice Fili, but you don't know my wife, she wouldn't go to London to see a museum... now if I would tell her that there is a huge modelshop there, she would probably ask when we're going Big Smile [:D]
Surprised ? Have a look at her at :
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26065

Dominique, the reason that I don't (can't) order online is that I don't have a Credit Card (and that is a long and painfull story), I tried PayPall, but there service is not available for Belgium Sad [:(]

I guess I didn't register when I said I would be building the Astra vacuumform kit of the Avro Arrow in 1/72nd. However I will be starting in the next few weeks. I have too many projects in the active and planning stage to hold off until February. Plus that is the sking season. Am I registered now?

I'd like to get in on this one if I may. I haven't done a vacform in a few years and this would be a great opportunity to get reaquainted. Count me in with the Maintrack Project-X 1/72 XF-91 Thundercepter.
