                        Are you talking about the MD530? If so, they aren't used by the US military. Of course there are plenty being operated in Iraq by US "civilian" corporate "security firms", but the ones I've seen have all been in civilian livery.

                        That could work. What about lightly highlighting facet corners? Using Jon's desert tan idea and applying it there?

                        There was a technique a few years back in FSW for "showing" spars and ribs thru aircraft skin. They did it to an F-4 kit and involved brushed on glosscote topped off with dullcote sprayed on after you "drew" the structure with your brush. That might also work.

                        I picked up the RAH-66 kit today and I see what Trigger means. Doesn't seem to be any raised detail, all the panel lines are recessed.

                        Maybe I should prime with black, apply the helo drab and then use a black enamel wash in the recessed lines?

                        hmmmm... you may have a point there. I didn't think about the complete lack of rivet lines on the Comanche. I'm not sure.

                        Anyone else have any thoughts?

                        No problem! I set my airbrush on the finest stream possible and then paint the desert tan on. Brush painting it I think would leave hard edges and you'd be able to see them underneath the Helo Drab. As for the ratio of thinner to paint, I think I use a 3-1ratio, but honestly, I just wing it until I get it right.

                        I'm almost ready to prime my D conversion. I'll try to take some pics as I go through it.

This brings out the highlights in the raised areas and looks pretty cool.

                        Then I go for two or three light coats of helo drab and my base painting is done. If I want more depth, I go for an oil wash using thinned black oil paint around crevasses and panel lines.

                        Once that's done, I simply seal with a coat of Future, decal it, another coat of future, do any final weathering and then seal with clear flat.

                        Hi all

                        I'm relatively new to model building the "correct way" as opposed to when I was a child.
                        Only on my 3rd model which is a 1/48 ROG MH-60L. Won't be my best work but it has made me realise that I want to focus on helicopters.

                        The RAH-66 will be my 2nd helicopter and will also be the first time I use an airbrush.

                        I've noticed that most of you have built many AH-64s which uses Helo Drab paint etc.

                        Would you guys mind giving me some tips on priming correctly for Helo Drab and how you guys go about weathering your Apaches etc. There are many weathering articles out there but they seem to focus on planes.

                        Any assistance is appreciated.

                        Well, had another peek inside the KA-52 box last night, and I'm getting pretty excited.

                        Well, about as excited as one can get over plastic!

                        I have a couple of weeks off over Christmas, and the family are not home during the day, so I'm gonna try and do a speed build and beat my own record.
                        Finished my 1/72 Hind A in a week, this one looks simpler, and at least it has no camo scheme.

                        Managed to find a shop with MM Helo Drab so I picked up 3 bottles this weekend.
                        Should hopefully last for awhile. Now I can make a "real" RAH-66.

                        I wish Hasegawa would scale their 48th Apaches up to 35th or 32nd. Would make life so much easier! Nice bird you've got there! 1/6 Cav, huh? I've got some photos of one of their Longbows on the ramp in Korea.

                        As for the Hase Apache, yep it has the full wire strike/cable cutter gear for the landing gear. Speaking of the Hasegawa Alpha Apache, here's one I built when it first came out.

                        Ok, since you're the badge guru, how the heck do I shrink mine down to normal badge size without getting a huge white border around it?

                        Anyway, has anyone else started? I've been working on my D model whenever I take a break from writing my thesis (almost ready to hand in!) so I've pretty much finished shaping the starboard sponson and I'm about 80% finished with the port one. Sanding square blocks into compound curves sucks, but they look really good.

                        Just out of curiosity, with all of you guys building the Hasegawa kit, how are the main gear on it? Do they come with the full wire-strike braces and cable cutters? Constructing that on my kit is going to be my next step, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.
