That's a definite violation of the rules & grounds for disqualification. Go out & buy a new kit. Help keep the economy moving ahead Smile [:)].

Too late Joe. I already removed the shrink wrap & sniffed the Styrene. Everything is still on the sprues however.

Sorry guys. Due to other commitments (many un-foreseen) I will have to pull out of this GB. I will be peeking in occasionlly to see how you're making out. Good luck and see you around.

I hear that sniffing the styrene before the start of a build is a definite no-no.Tongue [:P]

I've been thinking of doing a Tamiya 1/48 V-1 Doodlebug, so I'd liketo be counted in please. Should be a nice quick build too, no cockpit to bog me down.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I was looking at the kit I plan to do , the Tauro kit, and noticed there is a massive amount of FLASHING on the sprunces...Has anyone else done one of these kits and had the same problem. Also when I first bought the kit, any months back I test fit some parts....Gonna need some serious putty work.

Thanks, in advance.

Well, I don't have very much in the way of civil aviation in the wings. The closest I can come to civilian a/c from that time frame is a 1/144 Minicraft C-118. Now, the kit I have I bought from a lot of built-up stuff. I was gonna strip it anyway. I have posed the question of 1/144 decals in the forum before but there are not (were not?) too many AM manufactures of 1/144 decals. I wouldn't mind putting it in American or United Airlines livery from when the DC-6 was introduced in '46. I don't have the kit in front of me but the "windows" were just decals anyway and the cargo door could be filled and sanded.
Actually, Minicraft has a Lockheed Electra in their line-up that comes with early American Airlines markings. I found a pic on the Web of a DC-6 and the marking are pretty much the same. Hmmm...

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Aircraft developed in or after 1940 would be the best. Number of kits is up to you...

Is there a limit as to the number of kits one can build for this GB? I have several 1/48 WWII aircraft that I want to build...I don't know where to start.

Also, the date of 1940 - 1949...does the prototype or first variant have to have flown after 1940? Or the variant that we choose to build...?

Thanks.

Mitch

OK, now that we have a separate thread going for first jets (Thanks Joe!) we can all get back to the current subject at hand OOTB -1941-1949. Of course you could also fit a first jet into this build if you can't wait for the official "First Jets" build. BTW Joe I think that is a good name for it, but it's your idea so go with whatever you like. I will probably do my P-47 for this build, but may not go with the standard decals that Tamiya supplies. I may have to se what other cool versions I can do......:-)

Hey Joe, the 'first jet' idea sounds cool, I'm in if you get this started. (Like I need the to join another GB!)

Joe,

I think it should be open to whatever someone wants to build, as long as it fits the era you are talking about. If I was doing a T-33 and someone wanted to do the f-80 that would be cool, but not mandatory. I think you would get more people participating this way. I agree that you should be the moderator since this was originally your idea, I was just throwing in my 2 cents. :-) Since we are off topic here you may wish to contact me off list at my private e-mail address, (just check my profile). Anyways, I'd be happy to continue this conversation there as to not detract from the current group build.

Good idea...this could get some momentum, which would be cool. However, I think the early jets are way under represented. How could one incorporate the early jets and get the idea you are conveying? Would it be better to do the First & Last? Say one would do the ME 262 (first operational fighter) and some one else do the last ME 262 in any service...or the P80 prototype and a Mexican Airforce T-33 (I think they were the last to operate this type, totally unfounded so check me on thisBlack Eye [B)] )

For something different say this as the basis of the build...I would do the F86 prototype and you would do the last serving Sabre, CAC or whatever the case may be. Our Submissions would be made at the same time. A sort of look how far the type has gone sort of thing...in fact it could be opened to all jet types, that would really broaden the scope of the submissions. In reading all of the othe GB posts and those in the Airplane section it seems there alot of folks who have gotten to "know" each other. More for thought, a rookie teamed with a more experienced builder...This is of course all stream on conscieneous stuff...Tongue [:P]

One other thing, since I started this GB then I guess I am the moderator, if we continue this conversation it should be under it's own thread or header or whatever the techno lingo is...

Exactly! You could also do say, a T-33 or something along those lines. You could even include those models that served in foreign airforces up to a later timepoint so people would have a wider choice of markings, etc. I think you would get a diverse selection of entries and it would be a fun build. I would be interested in something like that.

Agreed, however, alot of these types are already well represented. My original thought were the groundbreakers. Now, the first of a type or the prototype, i.e. F86 or P80 would be cool. The MiG's and more specifically the Yaks would be good 'uns as well...
