Looks like those birds are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

Now, more on the Zero. some of the ideas Trumpeter had for this kit are very good but some redesign should be done to make these options work. All the control surfaces plus the flaps are operational. That is good but they are so loosly connected gravity keeps everything in a bad position so I glued them all stationary. Next they designed the landing gear so it is workable and compression should make it sit properly on the ground and when you lift the plane the gear extend just as in the real one. Major problem is the spring is too long and too strong. Even cut down to 1/3 its starting length it still has the gear fully extended on the ground and that does not look right. I left the springs out and it sets normally for being on the ground. Here are the latest update photos. They supply a solid ring sight in front of the reflector gunsight and that looks terrible. I replaced it with a 1/32 Waldron gunsight ring. A little more detail work the it is decal and dullcoat.

Carlos, nice Cat, that Tamiya kit is one of my favorites to build bacause it fits soo well.

ok. back to progress on the build. with this kit there is very little detail in the pit. there is very little detail in the real thing. took most of the molded detail off with a dremel and added some stock styrene and wire and here is what i ended up with.

it should have the look of a well worn a/c. at least that is what i am going for. for the ip i sprayed chrome first and then added four very heavy dark washes with black acrylic taking a dry brush to remove the liquid excess from the dials. the seat frame is wire.

well there are a few different versions of the -3 WildCat one version had provisions for a nose mounted 50 caliber machine gun another version had the telescopic sight yet another had the ring and bead sight and finally was the version that had the reflector gun sight.

Thanks for the positive comments...

I used Eduard PE set. They fit great inside the pit and since most are pre painted it really helps. Tamiyas kit falls together real nice i recommend it, but the landing gear is a bit of a pain...

post some more as i go along

as for the WildCat I have Squadrons F4F Wildcat walkaround

As for the Val the only 1/48 scale instructions I have are for the Hasegawa Val and the only Fujimi Val instructions are for the 1/72 scale Val.
BTW how detailed is the Fujimi 1/48 scale Val is it anything like Fujimi's earlier A-4 skyhawk kits?

Richard - looks great! I actually saw one of the 1/24 Trumpeter Zeros on sale for an amazing $55 at greatmodels I believe... I am tempted to buy it!! (regular $109.00) The Tamiya 1/48 I was doing for the Midway build was SO basic!!!

Here's the caption for this one:

193 parts, metal aileron and flap shafts, photo-etched aileron and lfap hinges. Rubber tires, engine detail, spring landing gear, decals for Akagi 2nd Squadron, 2nd section #1 Pearl Harbour attack.

I am going this weekend to get me another P-26 so I might order this one on the net while I am at it...

Your Zero looks good, it seems by the pics to fit very well.

My update is that I'm about finished adding the railings to the superstructure of my Arizona. Next will be building the PE cranes and catapults and all the other little goodies. Work is taking up alot of time and we also added two members to our houshold due to Katrina, so I hope I make the deadline.
