NEW GROUP BUILD: Achtung Stüka!

That looks amazing more than where I've got but my progress is still goingon so I'll post some pics once its all glued together and I'll post pics of the painted cockpit as well!!

wow that looks great! i had the same problems with academy decals on my 163 build.

Another productive weekend, almost done but lots of the usual fidely stuff to finish up and then some weathering. The Academy decals as usual were very difficult. The decals on the leading edge silvered badly which I didn't notice until I put the flat coat on. They seem like the lines are too thick anyway so I've already started to remove them. Other than that it seems to be coming along nicely. Hope to have it finished by Wednesday, if not it will have to be put on hold for awhile to take care of some family stuff. Enjoy!

Wow thats looking great, as for mine I've finished all the detail painting in the cockpit and I'll post some pics in a few days , I also hope to get it all closed up on the weekend and get the wings sorted out so I'll keep you all posted on the progress!

Well the open canopy idea isn't going to work with the kit parts. Wonder why they bother including them if they can't open anyway. Got the beast painted finally, took longer than I thought because I had a bad case of paint peel when I took the maksing off so it required some touch ups. Tonight will be the future coat and then I need to paint the canopy etc.

I just started painting my interior so I'll post you all some pics when I 'm finished!?!

Sounds cool guys, for my canopys I usually use AM parts because it gives me the option of having them open or closed,any way there not exactly expensive and they come in a much more appropriate scale thickness!

i like the idea of a dio. im working on a desert dio myself.

That would be awesome.

My kit came with both the open and closed canopy so I was thinking the same thing myself. Hopefully the open pieces can be posed open which is not always the case because sometimes the clear parts are too thick to slide over the other pieces. Would be nice if they did!

I'm painting my stuka in desert camo, and I've been thinking about sticking it in a dio with the canopie all open so you can view the interior that I built!
What do you guys think?

yep thats a seam. mind boggling isnt it? the only way i figure it was molded that way is they are supposed to be yellow. thanks for the clarification on the cannons. my instuction sheet has absoulty nothing other than "glue to wing"

current progress is everything is primed and ready for paint, although i still havent decided on a paint scheme.

Looking good Ghetto. Whats that white stuff on the wing tips? Don't tell me there is a seam there! According to my Academy instruction sheet the fins on the gun pods should be horizontal to the ground. Mine is all closed up and has the RLM 65 and 71 coats on and is ready for the darker camo splinter. should have it decaled by the end of the weekend.

maybe someone can help me, im doing the g-2 version. should the fins on the cannon be horizontaly to the ground or at an angle with the wing??

I'm looking forward to some more pictures from everyone else too. Had a few interuptions with family life lately but should be able to get back at it this week.

Well I'm done building my new cockpit and it is crammed full of detail which will look good when its all painted.


This is all the parts of the new cockpit with exstensive rebuilding on the sidewalls, and cockpit floor.
Now all it needs is a good paint job to highlight all this nice detail.

Here we go!
After some serious hands on work yesterday I was able to finish one half of my new cockpit heres some pics:


This pic shows the new cockpit side wall(bottom) compared to what originally existed(top) in the kit. As you can see a lot of new detail has been added , and I placed a No. 11 blade to give you all a sense of the size that I'm scratchbuilding in.


Here's a closer view of the new side wall. The grey detail is finely stretched sprue the white is bits of sheet plastic etc, and the copper is some fine copper wiring that I added as detail.
I used a range of different sources to find good pictures of the side walls, and I even used a couple of pictures of a 1/48 cockpit which had all the detail i could copy.


This is just a quik image of the existing cockpit floor which I am going to add extra detail to as well, also you can see the control panel which is surprisingly excellent with nice raised detail!

So as you can see my progress is starting to take shape and I hope to post more pics in the future as well as see more pics from your builds!!

Ya, these newer Academy kits are great. I've got the new P-51 on deck after the Stuka. It looks great too. You have to watch out though, I just did the Academy TBF (which wasn't so great) for the Midway build. Like you said, a seat and a stick. A bit disappointing to say the least.

I did add the PE seat belts though which I had laying around, otherwise my Stuka is ootb.

looks great dave! whole lot better than my revell kit. mines just the stick and seat.

I closed it up before I was able to get my hands on my camera so I did my best to get some interior shots. This kit (1/72 Academy is going together great. How's everyone else doing?

The engineering and parts on that Fujimi kit (that is what you're building right?) strongly resembles the Academy kit I have (more likely the Academy kit resembles the Fujimi one) but the part layout on the trees is quite different. Anyway, started on mine last week and I'm starting to paint details in the cockpit. Sorry, my camera is in another city and no access to my web page for posting pics as I am in the middle of a move. Hopefully I'll get that resolved soon.

I recieved mine a couple of weeks ago, the article on the stuka is particularly good.
Here's 2 pics of my stuka as I dry fitted the major components.

As you can see in this image the only fit problems that I've found so far ar some slight gaps between the wings and the fuselage on both sides , this are easily fixed with some putty.

This ones a bit blurry but it shows the whole model with all the major parts dry fitted.

Any words of wisdom for making a replacement control stick? I've never done anything like that before and I can't make myself get started!

Has anyone else gotten their Warbird Modeling yet? There's a great Stuka in it!
