Maybe we can also get an award for the longest, 24 hour build.Big Smile [:D]
I-beam. You could say you were done and we wouldn't know.
Aurora-have fun in FL. If you make it to Disney, they opened a new Trip to Mars thing of something (were working on it last time I was there couple years ago). Be sure and check it out.

Looks good, I-beam. I'm getting ready to a trip to Florida so I won't be posting my progress until I'm back in March. I'm still clocked in for 7 hours on my build.

Hey Aurora-7 and Philp,
We should win an award for the GB with fewest participants, I don't really know if we want that award though, LOL!!! At least we did it even when our initiator skipped town on us (anybody heard from Model Museum??).

Here is my update: Went over the 24hrs. I have to really rethink these MAD builds if I join another one. Did a quick 2 pass overspraying on the "factory" and put decals/future/dulcote on the Valkyrie. It's still not done. Need some stripes on the missles, trinkets on the widgets, blah blah blah, .... LOL!! It's tough to finish a model.

Edit: the picture still doesn't expand. ARRGGG, here is the link:

My pics get bigger (at least for me).

As for paint scheme, still not sure. I wanted to have it part of a scout team with 2-4 soldiers walking behind. The kit is 1/60th which would be perfect for some Warhammer 40k Cadians but when I compared the kit to a 25mm figure, it looks huge. These guys could run underneath and plant charges. So, then I was thinking of using 1/35th scale figs but don't have any futuristic ones. Decisions, decisions.

Yes i did notice that. I posted a question about it in the admin forum but no answer yet. I think it is becuase of the size. If you grab the url and look at them in a new window it is better. Just a link works too.

Here is the link for mine:

Phil,

so many times I've come across that kit and thought of picking it up and never did. Such a regret. Gonna give it a desert scheme?

Looking good, I-beam. hey did you notic if you click on our images they don't expand? Your early postings did but not your more recent ones do. Is that because our images don't aren't big enough to expand?

Looking good I-beam. I like the camo.

Oh, and thanks a lot for the fridge comment. You won't believe this but...No, still worksBig Smile [:D]
you must of knocked on wood.

If I can swing the right color(s), will try to get mine done this weekend (still only got 1.5 hours in on it). Here are the pics I promised.

ambitious start

that went together fast

moving so fast it is blurring (or just my photo skills)

The wheels and turret are not attached to make it easier to paint.

Making good progress Aurora-7 even when your still busy wth other stuff. Sorry to hear about the stove going out Philp, at least it wasn't the fridge (knock on wood).

Here is my latest progress. 3hrs paint prep and masking, 3hrs wrestling with the airbrush (the airbrush always wins Sad [:(]), 2.5hrs detail paint. Total so far - 19.5hrs

Still to go:
Valkyrie: decals, future, washes/drybrushing (optional), final satin spray finish
Factory: quick gray/blue airbrush layering, detail painting, decals, satin finish
I don't think I'm gonna make it [:0]

Looking good guys.
I woke up this morning to a stove that died while making breakfast. Spent much of the day out looking for a new one. By the time I got that installed my 24 hr period was pretty much up. Looked through my spray cans but don't have a good green. Pulled out some desert sand but really want a woodland type scheme so did a little putty work instead.

Here's my work so far. Only a total of 7 hours have been put into it so far. This weekend had a sleep over at our place for our kid's friends, a day trip for the family and a tired dad.

I tried to get the basic body construction done and figured I could still sand the seems even with the appendages glued on. Since I don't have the instructions there are a few small parts that I'm not quite sure where they go. I found an image on the net of an assemled kit and I've been using that as a guide. The kit is modeled in the two basic colors of the robot from as it appeared in it's series but I think I'll be painting it in a motr traditional camoflage scheme to lessen it's toy like appearence.

Once I get the seems sanded I'll start painting the body by brush (maybe I'll airbrush and undercoat first) and then I can add some elbow and shoulder protecting armor.

Good to hear your updates. Got my networking client almost squared away but they want me to do more now. Still managed to get about 5 hours in today on the model so I'm up to about 11 hours. Built most of the "factory". Here is my update pic

So far I have put in 5 hour 30 minutes into my dougram. Constructionn wise, it's about 85% complete. I'll get it fully built before misnight tonight but not fully sanded and painted. I'll post what I have by midnight (EST) but will keep a running count of the building/finishing time as I continue to work towards getting it complete.

Ok, Here is my update (pics later).
Got back in town around 5pm Saturday. Took care of a few things around the house and managed to get started on the kit just before 7pm. Got most of the pieces together so now it is a matter of getting it painted. One problem. Still don't know what color(s) to do it in. For the build, I may just pick a tan or green and go for it. Got to get to bed.

It's now Sunday. I only got 6hrs model time in on my 24hr MRD. Wasn't happy with the porcelin filler, had to go back to bondo. All glued together though and ready for paint.

Excellent Aurora-7!!

I've had one of those good/bad days Smile [:)]Angry [:(!] Good because I was working, bad because it wasn't on my model. I was all ready to go this morning. The phone rings at 9am with an emergency call from work (computer networking, the sky will fall if this isn't fixed RIGHT NOW) Well I do like money so I was busy with that all day till 7pm. No calls all week and then Saturday hits. Murphy is with me all the way on this one. Clown [:o)] I will have to go back to this customer tomorrow but I'll get some model hours in tonight.

Nice start, i-beam.

My daughter was helping me this morning on my Dougram. It was a bit slow going to start because I have no instruction sheet. Right now, the only thing I'm unsure about is the leg attachement to the hips -I'm not sure what the hip joint structure is. I'll have this assembled with the 24 hour span but maybe not painted.

I'll get a big chunk done tonight. Tomorrow I have some Valentine's duties.

Total building time so far: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Phil,

MM has apparently cancelled his account here. This build's forum is still open so I still plane to post something of my work this weekend.

MM,
I will be out of town and returning sometime this Saturday. I may have to do mine on Sunday (or some similar 24hr period between the two).
I have the Crusher Joe Crawler in 1/60th scale. Quick kit with few parts so perfect for the build and it doesn't look like a robot so will be something different.

Robot, Cyborg, Adndroids, etc are all fairly loosely designed concepts.

Look at the robot competitions most of the are actually remote controled and only have partial functionality programmed/build into them.

Said that I actually got 2 proper robots at home.

I'm stil here. I know I will forget something but I'll cross that problem when I get there. I did some googleing and found some good definitions of "robot" just to get all four of us psyched:

From http://www.ethicsweb.ca/robots/whatisarobot.htm

What is a Robot?

Not an easy question. Oxford English Dictionary defines "robot"
as an "apparently human automaton, intelligent but impersonal machine..."
This seems too simplistic, and begs too many quesitons.

According to the Australian Robotics and Automation Association, there
is no standard definition. But the ARAA suggests that a robot has
"three essential characteristics:"

* It possesses some form of mobility
* It can be programmed to accomplish a large variety of tasks
* After being programmed, it operates automatically.

The ARAA further notes that:

"The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has
developed an international standard vocabulary (ISO 8373) to describe
'manipulating industrial robots operated in a manufacturing environment'.
According to this standard such a robot must possess at least three
programmable axes of motion."

This technical definition helps ISO keep track of how many robots there
are in industrial settings, but seems too limited as a general definition.
Why must a robot move in 3 dimensions?

In my view, elevators are actually robots -- limited to travel along a
single dimension, but with a brain and behavioural rules that dictate
how it responds to environmental stimuli.

According to The Tech Museum of Innovation, "A robot is a machine that
gathers information about its environment (senses) and uses that information
(thinks) to follow instructions to do work (acts)."

This page defines a robot as "Any machine that does work on its own,
automatically, after it is programmed by humans." This definition makes
alarm clocks and VCRs, not to mention personal computers, count as robots,
which seems a bit broad.

(Say...if a robot is a thinking, moving machine, then an institution is
just like a robot, except for the thinking part...)

So it looks like anything that does something is in someway a robot, so everything we build is a robot.

See everyone Fri night!!!!

Alas, I must withdraw from this ceremony. I will be leaving Japan soon, and that weekend we found a great deal to do some travelling - something we couldn't pass up! I will look forward to the pics & the next MAD Robot/Android/Whatever Day!! - Calvin

Ok, looks like as if those are all the members that are going to join in the GB.

From my side everything is setup and ready to go. The next 2 weekends will be solely dedicated to the art of sniffing glue & thinners and chopping fingers off. Wink [;)]

Got a few kits on the bench that will need to be finished before the end of the month.

I know it's about the robots and not about the badge, but after seeing the MRD badge in Aurora-7's sig, I saw that it was definitely too wide. I changed it. Sorry about the trouble here are the two side by side.

1st one (too wide) 2nd one (better)

Wait a minute what am I saying, it is all about the badges Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]Clown [:o)]

Getting the 24hrs in is the tough part. My hours won't be continous of that weekend but I swear to keep all construction time to within 24hrs and post by midnight, Sunday!

Nice badge, too.
