Jules Which TBF are you getting? I know of a shop in Sydney that has the new TBF-1c kit in, if that is the one you're after. It'd get to you alot quicker than from the US. And I know another shop with a TBM-3D if you want that one too.

Let me know, and I'll give you the shop details.

Hi guys, Pete raised an interesting question on the previous page which got me thinking. I'm going to get the Ultracast seat for my Wildcat, should I get the early war model with only a lap belt or the later war model with the shoulder harness. Any help would be appreciated.

Daniel i'm getting the Accurate Minatures TBF-1c Avenger, i already have it on order so i guess i'll have to wait the 3 weeks, if i had known about the one in Sydney i would have had them send it up, Oh well 3 weeks gives me enough time to finish that StukaApprove [^]

Darren, mate i wouldn't have a clue which belts were in them, but even if they did have just the waist belt i think i'd still but the whole set in cause it just looks better......

Jules Should have thought of it earlier eh? Doesn't matter, you won't get distracted from your stuka now. Sounds like it'll take all of your attention. I was almost gonna buy one of the TBF's last week, but then I discovered the price tag.

Darren It would be almost impossible to tell which aircraft had what belts. Unless you have a photo of it that is. Some of the wildcats that left the factor with only lap belts might have been retro-fitted with shoulder straps. Which wildcat are you doing? I'll have a look and see what I can dig up from my reference stash.

Another thing is that, by June 1942 the F4F-4 had pretty much replaced the -3. That could mean the seat would be for a later model one. And I also think that shoulder belts were pretty standard by then too. After all that, I'd say go with shoulder straps (they look better too).

Maybe I am biased....but any Dauntless kit is a fun build Wink [;)]

Really though-- I find the AM kits to be really great kits. The only non-AM Dauntless kits I have are the Hasegawa A-24 Banshee (gonna need to make sure the drill is charged for all those dive flap holes!) and the 1/32 scale nightmare from Revell....

E-bay has been very good to me for my Pacific birds-- I got the SBD-3/4 kit and the twin Avenger kits off ebay- as well as a Night Avenger (forget the designation)....

Thad, you'll like that kit... follow the directions and if you run into trouble ask in here... several of us have built more than one of those... once you finish the interior take a seat get some light on it and admire it... you'll really like it!!!

For all you fellas that have built a few of these Dauntlesses, is there any fit problems with the kit at all? I'd be surprised if there wasn't (no kit fits perfectly). I'm certainly looking forward to building mine (plus the other ones I'll buy later onWink [;)].

Daniel... actually it fit together pretty good. The only areas I had problems is the wing assembly didn't want to mate up tightly at the trailing edge when I attached it to the fuselage, had to fiddle a bit to get it in.

That and it's a bit tricky on the dash-2 getting the landing gear to sit right. a little trimming and the sort gets it right in the spot though. I didn't have that problem with the gear on either of my dash-5's, so I am thinking they changed something on it by time they got to that mold?

other than that the body fits together great... if you use Ambroids or Tenax and the link you can get the fuselage where you'll have very minimal sanding... (going an inch at a time and aligning the sides as you go)

The only other part is my problem as I have rather large hands... it was a bit hard to get the gunners seat in, took me about 3 or 4 tries till I got close enough to the slots to nudge it in with a toothpick...

but the fact that the entire rest of the kit goes together so well is good enough to make you forget all the rest!!!!!

That badge looks good Jules. I think that would be fine, but we'll wait for official acceptance from Tom. Great work.

Question..... What programs do you use to do your badges? They always look great.

Well Jules, I hate to say it... but it looks wondeful like always! I was thinking more on the lines of a picture of Kremps all laced up in flight gear (she flew in the PTO as well) but this will do! Wink [;)]

Well gotta run.... time to go to work!!

Thanks guys! It is the Monogram Devastator- 1:48 scale....I had some major gaps in the wing roots that required some styrene-- but with my fix and the wing walks you can't tell they were there. My official build for this GB is still the SBD-3 but I will keep you updated on this one!

Oh- and j.s.-- love the badge! Gotta have the Dauntless in there Wink [;)]

Jules-love the badge.

Mike-very nice plane. Given the fact that it is a Monogram kit, makes it evident that you''re doing a great job.

you didn't say pretty please first... I am the GROUP MASTER... and you must respect my authority!!!

errr.... sorry old Kremps was on the keyboard again Jules.... finally wrestled it away... she's doing outpatient rehab to get off the windex but she's a bear when she comes home!!!

that'd be fine... really an impressive looking badge and that windows paint program!!! wow!

If everyone could check the list on the first page for me... wanna make sure I have everyone down and the right aircraft beside their name...

gonna start another group build today so once I get done with that I should have what I am going to build and get to it!!

Well I went on the Great Models this morning and placed my order for the GB Big Smile [:D]
I'm picking up the Aeromaster Wildcat Collection Pt2 which features an aircraft from VF-8 on the Hornet, which is the one I'll do. I really didn't want to buy decals for this build as these birds have fairly generic schemes. But I couldn't make up an accurate set from spares so oh well. I'm also grabbing the Ultracast Wildcat seat (with shoulder harness) and some Testors Blue Grey.

Jules, as usual the badge looks just fine, nice work.

Cheers
Darren

Tom, I'd love to join, but I am WAY overcommitted to GB's right now. Not to mention the other kits in my stash. My mom has put a buying embargo on me because I have so many (in her opinion anyway- I really only have 7).

Ask Foster7155 to take a pic of his collection and send it to your mom... mine is only about 30 or so, so it would not have the desired effect! Blackwolf is another one to compare what a "lot" of kits really looks like! haha

kidding... oh well hope you peek in from time to time and chat with us... Nurse Kremps was asking about you again last night at the Bingo Hall... says she might join the build with a FG46-9U Grumman Gnu Confused [%-)] she swears it flew then... got to take her word for it I guess...

Darren Sorry I couldn't help with those decals mate. I did find some old Tamiya decals that could be made into a midway wildcat, but they are typical Tamiya quality (ie. absolute shite). I could maybe put something together for you if you hadn't already ordered your decals.
