1/72 scale Attack Aircraft Group Build.
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 11:15 AM
Just as an idea, not sure if many would be interested. I know lots of people prefer to go bigger but as a beginner I'm happy to do a few more 1/72 kits first before I plunge into the bigger and more detailed offerings of the larger scale.

Any attack aircraft of any era just in 1/72. Build will start at the end of Feb and aim to finish by the end of May 2005 (but longer if needed).

I'll be building Tamiya's 1/72 A-6E Intruder.

Thanks folks.

Well, if it's OK to combine different GB's, I'm in!
I only build 1/72 so it suits me just right. Good idea! Thumbs Up [tup]

As a 1/72 advocate I would be very interested but the timing is kind of short and the subject matter rather broad but if you get it going I'll throw in a Me 163s.

kinda tight w/ ur criteria, there, eh Dan ? LOL ! Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]Smile [:)]
well, being as i mainly build in 1/72 & have a small stack of
unbuilt kits, consider me in w/ something from the earlier days of
aviation... most likely a Fokker D.Vii...
unless maybe u would like to narrow it down somewhat ?
based on ur choice, how about an attack a/c build in 1/72 ?
u mite actually have more folks joining in w/ a smaller choice of subject...

Thanks for the feedback guys! I was trying to keep it as open ended aspossible so that I would not limit who can join in, got that kinda wrong huh?!! :o)

Okay..........revised GB! 1/72 Attack aircraft (it was all my idea y'know!!)

Let me know if you're still interested.

That's right up my flight path! 1/72 is my scale of choice. I think I'll do a Skyraider - don't know yet which kit or what vintage, maybe Korean War. Got lots to choose from in my stash, it just depends on the effort involved to get it right.

Regards,
Dick

You can count me in, also! It seems as I'm building mostly fighters right now, but I have a couple of Heller #80343 Saab Lansen kits available. I will do one of them as a A 32A in South African colours, circa 1958, in deep buff scheme (I think). If this What if is OK with you, I'm in!

Excellent,

Well so far we have 5 of us (including me) but I'm hoping more will join us along the way. I'm still waiting for my kit to be delivered but feel free to start straight away. All I ask is that you post every now and again to let me know your progress (oh and some pics would be nice too). Thanks all and happy building!

Yep, I'll jump on the bandwagon too! I'll be building a 1/72 Hasegawa F/A-18A Hornet from 3 Sqn. of the RAAF in early 1980s livery. They had this grouse cobra's head on the front part.

Well since I also model exclusively in 1/72 scale, I'm in here too. I have a skyraider in the wait line as well, I'll do mine ini US Air Force SEA camo scheme. I may have a couple other attack aircraft I can add to the list too. I'll keep you posted.

This should be pretty fun!

Let's see a list of who's in and what they're building. Wink [;)]Cool [8D]

Hmmm... Someone changed the theme and my Me 163 no longer fits! I will try to come up with something different but will stick with the Me 163 for now if thats okay with everyone.

I thought the Komet was an attack aircraft? As long as it can carry some kind of payload or ammo then it's an attack a/c in my eyes! So don't feel that you need to change your choice if you don't have any other kits about.

I think the Komet was designed and used to attack USAAF bombers; therefore it would be classed as an interceptor. The rocket motor on it would not burn long enough to enable it to attack ground targets. It basically was shot into the air. The rocket motor then burned long enough for the AC to get to altitude above the bomber stream. Then, as the motor burned out, the pilot tipped the plpane over, dove into the bomber stream and tried to take out a bomber as it flew though the formation. Then, the pilot glided the plane down to a landing, where the rocket plane was recovered, refueled and prepared for another mission.

If you want to do a German WWII attack aircraft, then you can do a Ju 87 Stuka, an Afrika Korps/X AF Messerschmitt Me 110, or a Henschel Hs 129 tankbuster. They all qualify as attack aircraft given their use to support ground troops in the attack/Blitz.

Well, I've started!! The Hornet's in it's infancy at the moment, but coming together nicely. It'll be awhile before it shows enough progress for a photo.
Cheers,

Good to hear you've started John. I'm still waiting for my Intruder to turn up but might start work on an A7-D that I have. I'll still build the Intruder but I may as well start something that I can also enter into this build.

Looks like I'll get started on my kit too. I may do two kits here, since I have another one that would fit in this Build.

Can you have a mixture? I like to see aircraft loaded out with air to ground and air to air weapons!! Does the hornet always carry 2 Air to Air missiles on it's wing tips (sidewinder etc)?

Well here's an update:

My Skyraider will be French, since I can't find the kit with the US markings, and I have no aftermarket ones.

Also, I have two Panavia Tornado IDS kits. I'm considering adding these to this Build as well. One will be British, the other Saudi Arabian.

I'll keep everyone posted on my progress!
