Thanks Jules, Marc, Anthony and Rick.

Jules, I think invasion stripes will be a cinch now!  I'm going to be doing them for Lindsey's Spitfire for the Aces GB.

Marc, are you familiar with coordinate systems and projections?  It is the locatoin of my work building as I do most of my posting from work.

Jay Yes i'm somewhat familiar.  I loved maps as a kid & used them quite a bit in the Air Force as I spent most of my time with Tactical Helicopter Sqn's playing AirGrunt.

Dave Well your getting there.  Your going to like the Hasagawa Lanc I started working on the crew compartment and test fitting the floor and fuselage and things fit very nicely.  Unfortuneatley I have'nt got to far as the real world aircraft have been taking up a lot of my time.

Cheers

Hey , good to hear from you!  I had to do two coats of yellow to get a good covering.  The first one was a little splotchy.

PROGRESS UPDATE:  The decals are on! the decals are on!  I got some great progress this weekend.  I was able to get the rest of the canopy painted and looks like I'll have me work cut out for me trying to remove some paint that bled underneath the masks.  I have to add some future so I can do some weathering and then the last thing will be the wheels.  That light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer!

Glad to hear Jay! Thumbs Up [tup]  Now lets see some pics!Propeller [8-]

Got some more work done on the Sunderland but had hoped to get the primer coat on.  Almost there, finished sanding the putty (I hope) and masked the rest of the canopies.  The airfix pieces don't lend themselves well to the actual pattern of the framing but I did the best I can and hope no one shoots me for it.  Maybe some day I will get the squadron vac pieces but that ain't going to happen anytime soon.

Looks "GREAT" Jay!  Thumbs Up [tup]

Just curious as to what you use to paint the copper rings on the engine cowls.  Need to do that with the Sunderland and have never done so before.

Progress report.  I was able to get the primer coat and two coats of white on the Sunderland over the weekend and its looking good but I need to do one more touch up coat of white and then I can do the upper camo scheme. I ran out of white paint last night, I should have just bought a spray can to cover this monster but didn't get around to it Sad [:(].  Sorry I didn't take any pics yet but I will do so soon.

Thanks, Dave, Marc and Rick.

Dave, for the copper rings I masked the edge first with a  thin piece of masking tape, I should've bought some tamiya tape for it as it bled just a bit in places and I had to do some touch up (good thing the pic is a little fuzzy there as you can't see it!).  This time around I decided to lighten the copper colour and mix testors copper enamel with testors silver enamel (70-30).  This lightened the copper significantly as when I did my Beaufighter it looked too dark.  I didn't airbrush, I supposed I could have but I don't like to airbrush enamels, I hate the clean up.   I used a brush with very little paint in the bristles, more than dry brushing but less than wet.  Looking forward to some pics Dave!

Well... after a seemingly eternal abyss of putty and scraping the paint on the Sunderland is mostly comlete and the photos are loaded onto photo bucket but you'll have to wait until I have a chance to load them onto the forum from work. (insert sad smiley here) I really need to upgrade my mac one of these days. Sigh! Oh well, back to the garage to put on a little more future so that I can put on decals tomorrow! (yippee!)

Sounds good Dave, looking forward to pics!

I have the wash on and I just have to finish the nacelles and then seal everything with some flat coat to allow me to add some pastel weathering, then I'll add another gloss coat as BCATP trainers were painted in gloss finishes.  Then the Canopy!  I should be done by weeks end...  maybeWink [;)]

Well, busy morning at work today but finally have a minute to post the pictures.

I think I put on about 6 coats of white paint, two of them because of overspray.  Did you know that dark overspray shows up reall really really well on white paint Sad [:(]!  Oh well.  Lesson learned!

Jay: Not likely, I still want to attempt scratching the ASW antennae and then rigging for the outriggers and I still have to paint the whole engine area etc, etc, etc...

Edit...  and then there is the whole dream of doing a dio of it diving down on one of those 1/72 Revell Ag U-boatsWink [;)]

Dave, what colours did you use for the upper surface as I think my canso is going to have the same colours.

Bear: Thanks, but I'll have to convert the garage into a hanger before I attempt that dio

Jay:  I had a hard time finding photos of the upper surfaces of the Sunderland (probably due to its size), the few that I did find were of a different colour scheme.  I ended up using one of the Humbrol colours specified in the airfix instructions which was the extra dark sea gray (123) which is actually that brownish/green colour and instead of the humbrol green I used Model Master RAF dark green.  It seems to match the photos that I have seen of the upper colours as the colours are so close you can barely distinguish a camo pattern in the black and white photos.

Thats what I thought.  I had a very hard time finding the same for the Canso.  In the end I the only upper surface photos I have came with the decals I bought.  There were several photos of the restored Canso owned by the CWH.
