Gotta apologize for any perceived apathy of this Group Build. The past few weeks have been tough for me given I am flying between Chicago and Seattle for business. I have decided to get corporate housing in Seattle for the time I am there (until Sept. 30) which will severly limit my modeling. I'll check in here from time to time. Until October though I likely won't be modeling much.

Closing the canopy would leave less incentive for me to scratch build anything for the cockpit. Don't let me influence your decision though Frosty.Wink [;)] Looking forward to the pics!

most of the other markings have been applied also...
started scratchbuilding the a-frame thingy inside the pit
& will paint it this weekend, still trying 2 decide whether
2 put a scratchbuilt instrument panel in there b4 i close up
the canopy...
still need 2 figure a way 2 post pix again.... Dead [xx(]

Quagmyre

The F4U-1 (if I get to it) would be the old Hasegawa 1/72 kit. The photo shows it in dark sea blue, with (apparently) yellow codes, from VF-OTU-4 at Jax. I'm so far behind I'd better not commit to this one yet, though. I can always add it later.

Chris, I have an Odawara Castle that's in the pile (one of the few castles I was able to visit while I was there). The kit looks simple enough but no idea on fit or anything. Sorry Frosty! - Calvin

i will post updated pix of the Texan asap,
but i decided 2 do a little scratch work in the 'pit b4 we close it up...
leaving things be has never been my strong suit, LOL !
& i ordered the academy 1/72 Texan, so i'll have that kit's parts
2 work off of when making parts 4 the testors version, not 2
mention having a project that's just 4 this GB ... Big Smile [:D]

Dick,

Great to have you aboard! That TV-2 will be a nice addition. As for the Corsair... as long as you plan on doing it in trainer markings that's fine. I'll add you and both of your planes to the chalkboard.

What is the scale and kit manufacturer for the Corsair trainer?

Quagmyre -

Here's another T-33 for your list. I'll be doing the old Hasegawa 1/72 T-Bird as a Marine TV-2 in the seldom-seen orange/white Navy trainer scheme (ca. 1958). Found a great photo on the internet of this bird with markings clearly visible. I've been working up the necessary decals to match the pic. Should be able to meet the timeframe, even with others ahead of it. I just need a swift kick to get started sanding and gluing.

Item 2: Squadron's "F4U In Action" shows a birdcage Corsair from a training sqadron at NAS Jacksonville. Would this qualify?

Quagmyre:
my little bro' & i r currently working on a Texan trainer
a/c 4 the Tuskegee GB, & since u say crossbuilding is OK,
i'll post pix & updates here also ...
the kit is the testors 1/72 SNJ Texan, a very basic model
w/ about 16 parts total, & 2 of them r the pilot figs.
i'm thinking about getting the academy AT-6 kit 4 myself,
it's still 1/72 but most likely has better detail. heck, the
interior of the testors kit consists of 2 little strips of plastic
4 the figs 2 sit on, it wouldn't take much 2 top that !

Skarptochi:
thanx 4 the pix, especially the 2 of the Texan !

And the fun begins...I finally found some time to pick up the paint I need for the MiG-21 trainer, I've decided to go with the fun looking Stress Team colors and decals that come with the kit. Now to decipher the Trumpeter paint code...
