Digger, I like your idea of the imperial flag with a flight of AC. BTW I'm doing a KI-43I Hayabusa (Oscar), not an A6M (Thats my Pearl Harbour build).

How about the Japanese flag instead of the imperial flag, as the imperial flag is not used after WWII.

Just curious, is anyone building their planes yet? I know the time frame is May 05 to May 06 so we have lots of time.

I've got two builds going strong right now with a third to be started in September. I plan to start my oscar sometime in late October.

tried to make the badges.

looked alrite when i first started, really nice and clean but then i started to look for those kanji characters and things got crowded... oh well.

the reason for using the zero... well who can state against the fact that zeros are the most well-known name for japanese aircraft in wwII.

Oh yea, forgot to post what kit i was planning to build. Actually right now i am stuck among almost too many GBs, but i am debating whether to build that old Tamiya Zero kit or the newer Shiden that i actually finally have a PE set for.

Pronounced as Ni Hon. That's "Japan" in Japanese. Was thinking about putting things like "kamikaze" or soldier spirit (Tamiya's 1/35 Type 74 JGSDF tank had that as a decal, flip through the most current month's FSM mag in the readers' gallery section you will see it.), but decided to keep these crazy ideals they got away from the GB...

I really like the badge too. It looks great. In the smaller ones the 2005 gets a little lost over the red; I wonder if it was adjusted to be all over white if it would show better. Just a thought, but really, it looks great!!

As for building yet? Nope. I was going to do a hasegawa 1/48 oscar (a friend bought it from me) or tamiya's 1/32 zero (decided to save that until I really feel that I have the skills to not destroy such an expensive kit), so I have now decided to go with a hasegawa 1/48 frank. I have two build going right now and am incredibly slow, but the frank will be next up after those two (fall sometime?)

Good to atleast see this thread popping to the top, but like others, I can't wait to see some progress pics. Should probably go work on my builds so that I can't progress towards progressing :-)

Nice badge! As for starting the build, I've already closed up my Ki-27 and have given it its initial coat. Maybe I'll get a chance to post some pictures later this week or next.

Diggeraone,

I would like to jump in the pool also. There are two or three WWII Japanese aircraft in my stash and I will pick one and let you know.

Digger,

Put me down for a Bandai 1/24 NiK2-J Shiden Kai. I will be starting on it in the very near future and will be posting photos. I really like yor selection for a badge. It is great.

Thanks,
Richard

well i got the interior painted I couldn't find "aotake" in a bottle so i found some pics of appropriate parts, pulled out my color wheel and mixed my own with a combo of a blueish turquoise hunter green thinned a little with future ( i primarily paint interiors and details with acrylics) it gave a good translucent shine like the pics i found. i hope all is going well with you guys. later all

Waikong - I like the start on your Ki-27. It is coming along nicely.

Now to the N1K2-J. I got started on my kit this week and have the powerplant done. I have had it awhile and I am sure when it was first issued it was quite good for the period. Since that time I have gotten other kits like Tamiya, Hasegawa and Trumpeter. Even though this Bandai is good it doesn't measure up to the others in quality. Bandai had some great ideas with this model and if it were reissued under todays standards it would be super. I think it is good to regress once in awhile to really appreciate todays models.

The box it comes in is quite colorful and also large being 1/24 scale.

Building and painting the powerplant was fun in itself and I do like the kit that has kits within them.

Now on to the pit and the wings. Stay tuned for updates.
