I was at the LHS just a few days ago buying a back full of goodies and I saw a Hasegawa P40N in 1/48 (new release?) Guy next to me says it is a fantastic kit and the shop owner says he’ll give me a deal on the kit. Since a lot of what I was buying was RLM colors it was obvious that it may not have been my 1st choice for a kit. But having always liked that plane… it just “looks” dangerous… I decided to do it straight OOTB just to get it on the shelf so I bought it. I know there is a P40 in already…. room for a second?

Thanks all.

First coat of Yellow is on the wings. And it looks like a first coat of yellow (thus why no pics).

That's it for this weekend. Gotta get some sleep before my 4am cab ride to Midway to start my 11hrs of travel (door to door) to Seattle for my newest assignment at Microsoft. No, I haven't met Bill yet. Swear I saw Steve Ballmer and Jeff Raikes the other day though. I'll be able to spend time on this plane again next weekend. More pics then.

WOW !

Great Progress Joe and Quagmyre !!!

After taking a look at the Testors Me-163 I would like to change my submission. The kit is an absolute let down...I would change to a Me-262 1/72 scale Pro Modeller kit...here is the rub, it was started before the GB date...With some okay's I will be changing...it is the same kit I recently posted on the A/C forum...almost finished...I also have an X-1 in the stash to back it up...

Holy cow...... it all looks great
Fightinjoe and Quagmeyer - both those planes look great.
Dragonfly, that pit is fabulous. You going to put a wash on it to bring out all that wonderful detail.

I pulled out Gavia's La-7, only to discover that the IP has gone on a walk about or just didn't come in the kit (I'm banking on the later since the bag was still sealed). So I have started scratch building a back panel for the included PE.

Here's another update of my XF5F-1 Skyrocket.

On with the Alclad II Gloss Black basecoat. Almost want to leave it like this it looks too cool. Think I've found a base coat for my P-61 and A-26.

Alclad II Chrome for the props. Extremely tempted to do the whole plane in this! Like mirrors!

Alclad II Aluminum for the plane itself. Cannot really tell, but the pitot tube is Chrome as well.

Next step is to spray the canopy with MM Aluminum Acryl. I want a slightly different shade from the fuselage and the bottle of MM Acryl should suffice. Probably gonna mask off the prop blades and spray the spinners MM Aluminum as well.

Then, alas comes more masking of the nacelles and fuselage and painting of the Yellow wings.

I guess I got lucky cause the tenax wasn't really cured yet on the seat, and it came right out. Then all I had to do was pry the CA back that holds the belt. Bingo! Thanks again Rick

Hey Jerry, glad you got it fixed Thumbs Up [tup], I would have put it in with enough CA to support the Empire State Building Smile [:)]. I'm building the same kit for the P-40 GB & the pit is as far as I've got. Haven't found any other pitfalls yet, but tomorrows another day Big Smile [:D].

Jerry, Sorry I mentioned it. If you've already buttoned it up, I wouldn't try to correct it. The PE that Hasegawa included in the kit is pretty fragile. It's not a real biggie & only P-40 buffs would notice. Lesson learned, you can't just rely on the kit instructions, nothing beats researching the real aircraft if you like accuracy. I've made too many similar mistakes over the years & have little confidence in the guys who do kit instructions.

Oh no!!!! I certainly didn't know that! I don't know if I can fix it now, cause I just closed the fuselage. I guess I'll give it a go. Many thanks to Hasegawa for steering me in the wrong direction. Thank's for the heads up Rick.

Ahhhh, sweet sucess. AllI had to do was coax the seat out, and it was an easy fix. Are there any more booby traps in this kit? Thanks again Rick!

cheers,

Jerry

Very nice work Dragonfly. The pit looks excellent. One small critique, the seat belts should drape over the bar on the frame the seat is mounted to. The Hasegawa instructions that show them draped over the seat back are incorrect.

Greetings,

I finally finished some other projects, and am making a little progress on my P-40. Now that the pit is done, things should speed up.
