Here is my entry to the P-47 GB. 

Tarheel Hal, 366FS, 358FG, 9th AF

From discussion with another forum member, jug-junkie… thanks again for these decals… about the correct scheme for this a/c, I have taken a bit of license here.  It was not until I was dome that I noticed some differences in the decals and what may have been the real a/c markings during the war.  Try as I might, I was not able to find reference pics, apart from one profile, of the original a/c but tons of the plane as it appears today.  So the markings are a combo of then and now and I lefty the a/c clean as it is now, as a show plane.

Completed using Alclad II aluminum, Eduard PE set, Aries wheel wells, and Super Scale Int’l decals.

As always, comments and criticisms welcome.

I'll say it again, that's one outstanding build Marc. I gather you had some trouble with the decals but it looks like you won out in the end. Outstanding as usual my friend. Are you losing hair too?

Marc, 'Tarheel Hal' looks great. If there are mistakes there you're right - the camera hides them, because it looks real sweet to me! So what's next for you?

Looks great Jean. Your seatbelts are tempting to try that method. I think they look great and would be much cheaper than having to buy an aftermarket photoetch set.

I can't wait to see more of your build. I'm guessing you're going to do joy boy before the crash ??

Gwaihir - Ya, I'm pretty much dead in the water until my punch set arrives.  In the mean time I'm finishing up my FW190 for hte Battle for Germany GB and my Wildcat for the Carrier GB.

Found this Mini Punch Set, by LF Tandy, at AC Moore for $8 this morning.  5/64 the smallest up to 11/64.  Just a metal barrel with changeable tips.   

The small one worked great for cutting out small instruments.  These instruments are the smallest ones on a Mike grant 1/48 IP decal sheet. 

So I have to revise what I said in the previous post.  1/8” is huge.  The instruments in the pics are about ½ that.

Man that bites.   Try taking a new #11 blade and tap with the point all over just hard enough to make little invisible holes in the decal, and make cuts along any panel lines.  Apply some Future.  I work it in by taking a cotton swap soaked in Future and pressing it into the surface or even rolling it from side to side over the decal while pressing down.

Here's a shot of the Tamiya kit's R-2800 radial engine. I thought it would be torturous fun if I tried to plumb the ignition leads. I used very fine copper wire, and anchored them with CA glue into holes drilled with a pin vise. I didn't do the back row of cylinders, since you can see them even less than the front row when installed into the cowl. In fact after determining how little you CAN see, I wonder if it was really worth it to go the extra mile(!)
