Marc, The gun sight looks great! What is the "new glass?" and is it curved? if so, how in the heck did you do that? It looks great, and so does the 190 sight!

Darren, your paint job looks good. Good luck with the invasion stripes - let me know if you develop any good practices while doing it - I had tons of troubles while doing them on my 'practice' build, and may never try them again

Enough Helldiver stuff…now some official P-47 Thunderbolt GB business.

 While I wait for my graphic artist cousin to get some free time to help my reproduce marking for my Fw 190 I had some time to do some work on my P-47.  The trouble with working on a 1/24 Fw 190 is that you don’t realize how BIG the thing is until you go back to 1/48.  I feel like one of the people that paint portraits on grains of rice. 

Got some work done on the pit… going nuts bending all the really tiny PE stuff… and there is plenty of it for this kit.  The Eduard set has 3 frets of parts.  Interesting how they give you 5 little levers when you only use 3.  They are good enough to predict the 2 will go “TWANG” off the tweezers and into oblivion.  (They were right too)

Here is the gun sight with PE and new "glass" next to the sight form the 1/24 190.  You can see the Revi sight in the BoG GB with a dime for reference.  There are only 2 words that can describe the Jug gun sight… tie…knee.

Darren - The one I have has the PE stuff and the real nice pit.  The clear panes inthe canopy have a rough texture, like frosting gone wrong, that looks like orange peel.  Look at the glass under the windscreen cross piece.  The whole canopy looks like that to soem extent.   Except ofr the cross piece near to top, the windscreen is devoid for framing or detail.  But there is a slight "bump" where the framing was meant to be molded. I have never tried to get replacement parts for any kit.  Will theysend a new one if it is simply junk and not damaged?  Because I have a variety of methods that can inflict damage

Darren your paint job looks fine from here.

Darren – I just noticed your jug is sitting in front of a Helldiver box.  I have the Accurate Min. Helldiver just a couple of builds down the list and I think I read or was told that it is a re-tool of the Monogram kit.  How is the canopy in you kit?  The one with the Am kit is as close to unusable as a canopy can get  Amazing how that could have even ended up in the box of such a nice kit... looking as bad as it does.

Darren, sometimes, because of the brittle nature of CA glue, you can get it to pop off the un-wanted areas in one piece. I've actually done that a couple of times. I carefully took a hobby blade to the blob and it scraped right off right down to the bare plastic. Worth a try. Good luck.

I also tried the mottling paint technique, and it seemed to work well. I only wished I wouldn't have second guess myself and gone with a little more contrast, cause the end result was very subtle. Before the clear coat, I thought it looked overdone so I toned it down with another shot of the thinned base color. Then after a gloss clear coat, it almost disappeared. I now wish I would have left it alone and stayed with the original results. The effect will definately diminish after a clear coat. Something to keep in mind.

Jerry, Wow, those wheel wells look great! Very nice. I'm glad your damage wasn't too bad and you were able to fix it. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest when you post them, because all that we have seen so far look excellent.

Darren, I'm not sure how it would work, but they do make superglue debonder or remover (or something like that) I wonder if you put a little on a q-tip and almost used a dry brushing technique on the 'globs' if it would remove some but not all. I'm not sure, and I would definately practice first, I don't know if it would work / remove paint / or what other negative effects it might have. Another possibility (?) would be to use a needle file and try to sand away some? I'm just thinking outloud and am curious to see what others come up with. I wish you the best of luck on it and hope it turns out. BTW good luck with the mottling. I'm curious to see how it comes out (hopefully as well as in the book )

Also, forgive me. I couldn't resist posting another finished pic. I took the model outside to take advantage of the natural light. It was very windy, and fifteen seconds after this photo was taken, she went airborne. That's right...off the table and three feet down to solid concrete. Fortunately, the damage wasn't too bad. Lost a bomb and starboard stabilizer and a few scratches.  I should have known better when I could actually see the prop spinning when looking thru the view finder of the camera. Anyhoo...I've preformed suceesfull damge control. It could have been much worse. Very scary!!!

I used Tamiya flat red. After a clear coat....I buffed it to a semi gloss sheen. Tomorrow..I'm ging to try to post a couple more pics. Thanks for the compliments guys.

Dragonfly: You're right when you say it's a "teaser" pic. Judging from what we can see, it looks excellent. What color red is that on the cowl? I airbrushed a red cowl on my last T-bolt, but the color was way off.

I finished sanding down the Academy Razorback this evening, and I also glued the wings on the RM bubbletop. The razorback will get a nice OD/Grey coat, while the bubbletop has 3 bottles of AlcladII waiting for it.

I'll be back home the first week of Feb. I took several photos of the CP and engine before they were installed. Those pics are stored in the internal memory in my camera. I now have purchased an SD card that I can transfer pics to just about anything. I don't want to show more finished pics without the early shots. Kinda like the cart before the horse. I'm looking forward to seeing everyones work.

Well guys, I'm not going to appologize for finishing early, but I've had alot of spare time out on the road and was able to push thru this build fairly quickly. It was a challenge with just the tools I thought I'd need, but fortunately there was a hobby shop nearby. I was able to get one pic into my friends laptop that I've posted, but I have to wait till I get home to show you the rest. I can't get the pics out of my camera without a special cable that's connected to my pc back home.

Anyhoo....this is the Hase, 1/48 kit. I used a resin CP and wheel wells. Also, alot of PE, all Tamiya paints, and kit decals.So here's what I guess I'll call, for now, a teaser. btw, this is a checker tail.
