Hi folks,

I had a nice day in the workshop today and got to grips with my razorback. I've waited since before the holidays to get stuck in to this one! I finished the engine and the cockpit as well as fitting the fuselage cooling ducts. The 3 sheet Eduard detail set is great, but I have struggled with the carpet monster as many of the tiny parts have "pinged" during the assembly process. Here's some pics of what I got done today.

Regards,

Darren.

I have not forgotten about this GB.  The Fw for the BOG GB is turning into a project and a half.  The next few GB's I am in I will be joining well "in progress" I am sure.

Still going to do Tarheel Hal for this one. There are some discrepancies between what it apparley looked like and the current "flying" one.  Since I can find lots and lots of pics of the modern one I will being doing that one so at least I iwll be as accurate to that real a/c if not the original.

I made a little progress today. The True details CP is very nice and a welcome upgrade from the kit pit. It should fall into the fuse. with little difficulty. That's the good news. This is no Tamiya kit!! There's 2 nasty gaps with the lower wing-fuselage joint that's going to be a joy correcting. Also, there are two deep sinks on the cowl that will need to be filled. Hopefully, with the AM parts, this kit will build up to something that doesn't look too bad. After building both Tamiya Jugs, this kit is dissapointing. Oh well, I only paid 3 bucks for it. Will check in later.

I think if you go to the eduard site www.eduard.cz and search for your specific pe set, you can download the directions in .pdf format. I usually do this when trying to decide if a set is worth buying.

I think this is the specific link you need for those directions...

http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdflist.php?www_dir_name=./pdf/n49/&www_PDFcatalogue_nb=49001

As for my build...

I thought I could finish my 'warm-up' 1/72 p-47 before the start date, but haven't quite got there. I finished putting on all the decals the other day and hope to put another round of future on in prep for a wash. It was the tamiya 1/72 razorback and was a very fun kit to build. My only complaint is the way they did the propeller, I am having a little trouble getting rid of the seam...oh well. It's a challenge. I hope to be done within the week and will post pictures at that point.

And then on to it's big brother...tamiya 1/48 razorback. Smile [:)] Very excited...

Haven't started yet, studied the directions and planned my build except for final colors and markings. I'm still a little up in the air about those and need to find the appropriate figure for my nose art. Spent time yesterday and today finishing up my build for another GB. Hope to start tomorrow, will be OOB exceot for PE seat belts.

Hi gang,

I should get some workshop time this week, so hopefully I'll be able to finish the engine and cockpit. Looking at all the detail parts that I have on my bench, I don't think that I'll finish this one anytime soon. At I should be making some steady progress though. I'll post pics as the jobs get done.

Well I made it to Florida, drug about half my bench with me, and got started on the wheel wells. The Aires resin parts are a huge improvement over the kit parts, however, you must  sand them very thin, to the point where you can almost see thru the part to get it to fit in the wing. I'm also going to use the True Details CP, another major improvement. Unfortunately, I can't post pics until I get back home. Can't wait to see some progress pics from you guys.

HmmmmmmmmmSmile [:)]

I must look into my stash for this one to see what is available to commit.

You see, I had to lay-up my collection for the Hurricane's that came through here last fall, but the P-47 is my favorite subject along with the F4-U.

Diamond Gaz and FrogFoot: If you've got an un-started P-47, you're more than welcome to join!

From my front, I stripped the paint off my Academy 1/72 razorback, and decided to re-do the finish (now that I know how to use Future and a proper wash). I've also got the RM 1/72 in the stash ready to go. Now all I need to do is figure out how I want to paint them! I'm thinking the standard green/grey for the razorback, and some sort of camo for the bubbletop. Maybe even a british scheme. I've got a set of French markings (for the P-47) and other decal sets (all 1/72) if anyone is willing to trade. I'm looking for a basic T-bolt layout.

Joshua

P.S. The badge will be ready after New Years, but before school starts back.

Well, I was at the LHS the other day and picked up Hase's "348 Fighter Group" The first time I saw  Maj. William D. Dunham's scorecard I vowed to model his bird "Bonnie".  After a long wait the time has come.  I will also throw in a Monogram kit as well and do both sets that came in the box.  It is Lt.  Marvin E. Grant's Sylvia.  Cant wait for January.  If you would Jabbe please update my build.

I've gotten Academy's 1/48 scale P-47D bubbletop, thinking about a "what if" markings and naming it after an old girlfriend I had more years ago then I care to remember. Will save the serious build until I can check out Tamiya's M model that hasn't been released yet.

Looks good Darren. With that kit and those extras, it should be a really fun build for you. When you get to it, I'll be curious how the invasion stripes go for you. I am currently doing a 'warm up' 1/72 tamiya with full stripes and am pulling my hair out trying to get around the razorback and keep it looking mostly straight. In the end, I'll probably just settle on the nobody's perfect idea and often the actual planes' stripes weren't perfect either, but...(I wish I were perfect Sad [:(])

Anyway, looking forward to watching your build.

Hi folks, here's my T-bolt on the bench in bits.

I'm building a P-47D in D-day markings and heres the parts list:

Kit-1/48 Tamiya P-47 Razorback
Aftermarket-
Aeromaster decals-"American jabos"
Eduard PE-P-47 razorback parts 1,2&3
Eduard EZ masks.

I know the GB start isn't until 1st Jan, however I thought I'd make a small start with a little pre-painting, hope you guys don't mind! If I get this one finished to a good standard (you guys will be the judge!) before Feb. 4th I'll enter it into a competition. So with all this AM stuff, I'll take my time and enjoy the build.

Hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Darren.

Ok guys....I've got everything I need and ready to go. I'm leaving for Florida next week, and since I will be there the entire month, and will have lots of spare time on my hands, I am going to attempt to start this build on the road. It's going to be a hassle to drag supplies and tools a thousand miles away, but It'll drive me nuts to be down there that long and not have something to work on. I've already built both Tamiya kits and thought I'd try the Hase. I got this kit for a song at a club auction, and although the exteroir detail is comparable to Tamiya, the interior needs some help. So, I've picked up some AM to try to improve this kit. I will have access to a computer so I can check in from time to time, however I'm not sure whether I'll be able to post progress pics.

Looking forward to getting started,

Dragonfly

I will be building either Tamiya's new M if I can get it or I will do Academy's D model bubble-top, markings are still up in the air. I want to do Academy's as a fun build while Tamiya's will be serious. The will most likely be OOB

My name changed too. I was newtothegame, but am now gwaihir. Also, I think I changed my mind and will do a razorback instead of a bubbletop.

Thanks,

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] 9x19mm! We don't start for another month, so you've still got a while to decide on your builds.

t28B- that's really cool! You must have some good friends.

I finished my "practice" P-47 this evening. Pics can be seen at this thread: http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/548436/ShowPost.aspx
