TANGO1: I saw your Hun Hunter and I thought it looked really, really sharp. I hope to dive into NMF's soon, and that bird is quite an inspiration. I'll let you in only if you share your secrets on how you produce such awesome looking builds.

Hey! I did'nt know youn guys were going a Jug GB! I know I've just built one, but can I join in? If the start is Jan 2006, I'll be ready in plenty of time! I'd love to be part of a GB around here.

I started work on the Revell P-47M. I'm using it as "practice" for the GB I suppose. For $8, it is an excellent kit. I'm thinking about getting the Heller 1/72 P-47N for the GB, just to do something different. Anyone built that kit?

tho9900: I think you hit the nail on the head. I've built a few Hasegawa kits, and it seems the exterior detail is quite nice, while the interior is a little lacking.

Johan - I have noticed that about quite a few of the Hasegawa kits... beautiful exterior, sometimes exquisitely detailed engines... but interiors that look somewhat like a plastic blob with a few dials and handles mixed in... thank goodness for aftermarket resin!!!

Hiya Guys,

I'm a greenhorn to this fabulous site and forum. Couldn't help but notice this GB and i simply have to throw my lot in here if that's OK. The best part is it only starts next year giving me time to finish up a bunch of other GB's on other sites. I will do a 1/48th Hasagawa with a full Aires detail set (The Mexican Jug box). But i will go through my decal stash to decide on which bird. tho9900 as a matter of interest I will post a pic of my 1/48th Mexican bird as soon as i figure out how to attach an image to a post.

Well, I got started on the Revell 1/72 P-47 M this afternoon (btw, how do you tell the difference between Revell and Revell Germany?). It had been sitting under my desk looking pretty. Since I'm 80% done with the F6F and Fokker DVII, I figured I'd start the Tbolt. I'll build another for the GB, don't worry guys.

Here´s the Hasegawa kit. I´ve learned that the mold is from the early 80:s. In some aspects, especially the outside it looks like a decent kit. The panel lines are nicelly recessed and the details looks OK. It has received fine revievs that I´ve read.

But the cocpit is a joke, and so are the wheel bays (no side walls). I intent to replace them with two Aires resin sets. They are fairly inexpensive (about 80kr = U.S. $10 each) The sets are recomendet for the Academy, but from what I´ve heard it´s not to be to much trouble fitting them.

So - with an overall ok kit and with those resin sets, I think it got the potential to turn out ok.

Bought a Revell 1/72 P-47 M today,

I'd read good things about the kit on the net, and the LHS had 2 models, both bubbletops (one is a rebox, but I'm not sure which). I had been thinking about buying one for a while, but someone bought one of the 2 kits, so I figured I needed to buy the last one before someone else did. Evil [}:)]

The kit looks excellent! It's molded in a funky white/grey. The instrument detail is the best I've ever seen, and the cockpit looks very busy. It has engraved panel lines and looks good all the way around. Very little flash. For $9, it's neck and neck with the Academy kit (perhaps a hair better? We'll see when I start fitting peices together).

Now the real question is, do I want to build it before the GB, or save it for during and build 2 T-bolts?

I might be interested in this one. I'd like to do a P-47M in the black/dark-blue over natural metal scheme from the 56th FG. I've got decals for the model already, just no model to stick them on Wink [;)]

Marc - in photobucket go to Account options, it should be on the blue bar at the top of the page when you log in. When you get there look for "Account options" about halfway down the page. Make sure the "Make Public" line is checked yes, then just post us the URL of your album and we can see it without having to log in! (but we can't add or delete from it, kinda like a guest mode just so you know)

newtothegame! I have heard good things about the Revell 1/72 P-47's as well. I'm a little weary though, b/c I'm building a Revell 1/72 B-26 that has a lot of fit issues and raised detail. I might pick up a Revell Thunderbolt model just for shits and giggles, they're only about $8.50 at the LHS

Iodni_k: I don't think you're crazy, I'll probabily do two too.

tho990: so are you in this GB, or are you just going to sit back and watch? Tongue [:P]

Cool! I have some thick styrene sheet that I could use for the fillet. Along with some Green Putty! Tongue [:P]

I have an Academy Bubbletop set aside for that scheme! I picked up the Arii kit b4 I realized it was supposed to be a Bubbletop! Clown [:o)]

LOL That's OK! I only paid about 600 yen for it anyway! Big Smile [:D]

Clavin - no prob, I found some good shots of the escuadron 201 birds on an all spanish site... I could do the nose art and numbers in the decal maker thing and we both do a 201 P-47. I was wanting to do the one without the fillet on the stabilizer anyway and the Aztec decal sheet is for the one WITH the fillet.

Mine would also be the earlier "Razorback" version. I'd have to either paint the PAAC markings or make the decals myself. A first for me! Big Smile [:D]

I'll join in with a Tamiya 1/48 Bubbletop, probably done up in a SEAC scheme. However, I will admit that although I am pretty sure the end result should have a flat floor, I am going to go with the corrugated one that comes with the Tamiya kit. Hope that is ok.

Right now I am about 1/2 through a 1/72 tamiya razorback. You are right they are more costly, but it has been a completely enjoyable experience. The fit is great and the detail is excellent. I usually do 1/48, but if all 1/72 kits were this nice, I would strongly think about changing.

I have also heard good things about the 1/72 revell thunderbolts, but have yet to find one on the hobby shop shelves to check it out.

This is my first P-47 and I´ve got the Hasegawa only. It´s been awile since I looked in the box, so I can´t remember if it looks OK. I will take a look tomorrow. Thanks for the tip on the Academy, I´ll concider that aswell.

Gilmund, have you built one of those models before? I recently built an Academy 1/72 razorback, and I think it's the best fitting and looking model I've built so far. I've been wondering how the Hasegawa models compare. From what I've read, Tamiya 1/72 Jugs are really good, but they they also cost about twice as much.
