Sorry to revive an old thread but I guess i am brining up the rear on this build. This kp Il-10 is bad. Fit is terrible and it is taking all my willpower to finnish it on time. I will post my pic when done but dont expect much

Almost done overkillphil. I finished the camo on my wild weasel. Just need to add the bombs, canopy, landing gear and she is done. Pics should be up soon.

So is everyone else done? I'm still working on my BMP, the tracks are a real hassle and I've only been able to work on it for a few minutes here and there. Once the tracks are done it should take about 30 minutes to finish.

Awood, I don't think your photo skills lie, that is finely done!

Sarge, nice job on the F-117! You're right, it was fun, a nice break from driving oneself nuts with obsessive detail! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]. All in all, a fun experience. Thanks for coming up with the idea!

It was even more fun for me because I got it for FREE!

Awood,

Thanks for the compliment! I was surprised at how it turned myself.

Your Spit is a beautiful job, especially the cam! Your brush technique beats the hell out of my AB technique! Kudos!

Well fellas,

heres the culmination of about 3hrs of work, along with the used tools....

Though I cant see myself doing this again in the near future this was alot of fun.... would have been more fun with the airbrush but what the heck.... Big Smile [:D]

Brian, yours came out not to shabby....

Well, here goes...pics of my T-34 Mentor (Hasegawa, 1/72 scale), total build time was 4 hours. This is surely a lesson in humility, after using all our modern techniques and tools!

Yeah, what he said. Also to clarify, I'm planning in doing both the BMP and the Spark Vark.

If I can find it in the havoc that is my basement I'm going to do my AMT EF-111. I may have to break down and use some sand paper though because when i started painting it years ago I laid the freshly painted wing down on some newspaper and the paper dried on it. If it's any consolation to the 'purists' I won't rescibe the raised panel lines I am sure to sand off.

Im done with the building, starting the camo and should be done soon. True to the spirit of the build I didnt even look at the instruction... just started glueing peices and as such forgot to add the cannons before glueing the wings together. Now I get to see if I can "make" them fit... Big Smile [:D]

hmmmm... this is making me rethink if I should use the hard found lancaster i got off of ebay just now (That lanc needs a crap load of putty as i knew it). Oh well either way iam in this GB and i will figure out what i will be building after my next trip to the local hobby shop, maybe I can find some under ten bucks 1/72 fighters that might just look good with a basic brush (as in NO german, minimal camo with solid edges, a good fitment for the kit so the glue itself can fill up the seam, sounds like a hasegawa to me then).

when I first started modeling I used to use the hobby knife to "cut" the parts from the sprue... several painful experiences which include a deformed thumb, and one where the hobby knife went flying and stuck in my bare foot like a lawn dart caused me to rethink that strategy... you'd think as a boy scout Id have known better Big Smile [:D]

Awood,

Same here, but I used to use my mom's manicure scissors to cut the pieces off sprue - caughjt hell for it, too! Never did any sanding in the "old days", just more glue to build up the seam. All in all, this has been a fun experience, very refreshing. My T-34 should be finished for pics by tomorrow, so everyone can have a good laugh!

In keeping with the spirit of this build Im not using any setting solution. Didnt even know what the stuff was till a couple years ago.. Im also not using any clippers to remove the peices from the trees - twisting those off and cleaning em up with a hobby knife, the only sanding Im doing is being done with an emry board from my wife ( I used to steal my moms when I was younger, and all painting I do if any will be with the POS white brushes the come with the testors kits as thats all I used till I was about 19

I started it last night and have already closed the fuselage. Not sure if Im gonna even use any paint yet. Maybe some flat black on the props, wheels and cannons. I chose this kit cause it was very cheep, lacking alot of detail, and the shape just cries to be something to fly around the house Big Smile [:D]
Ill post pics when shes done.. Anybody know if you can put decals on bare plastic?

Awood,

Sure can, but expect them to try to lift and silver after they dry unless you use some setting solution. That's the only way we had back in the day - note some of the old "estate" models listed on EvilBay......

I've found one of the Matchbox kits that would be a good candidate. The Matchbox Hawker Hurricane in the night fighter markings, all flat black.

Well I started the GB today, and I'm about 90% done.

Yesterday I was in the LHS looking for some harrier declas, when I found a harrier kit. I picked up the kit (50% off!), and brought it home. I opened it up today, and realized it's a horrible kit. It's an Italeri 1/27 Harrier GR.7. I was looking at the parts, and relaized it would take a hell of a lot of work to make it look nice. I really didn't feel like scribing pannel lines into the entire model. Since I got it for the decals, I figured this would be a perfect canidate for the GB. I finished it in about 1.5 hours. A few spare decals will go on this evening. I'll post pics soon. Talk about fun too! I felt like I was racing to get it done.

Same Here, I just gotta get the last bit of Green camo on the plane. It was really fun. believe it or not, and it is turning out really good!
