got back from a trip to Gettysburg yesterday.  my AP history teacher put it on.  bunch of us went.  the tour was ok but our teacher was nuts.  he had us march, in column around the battlefield, with what amounted to a piece of piping stuck with a piece of wood for 'muskets'.  it was *********......to say the least.  we got some good laughs out of it though.  we were ripping on him the entire time.

And I do that for a hobby!!! Laugh [(-D]

Really though, your lucky. I want to go to Gettysburg again, I fricken loved it there, minus the humidity. Gettysburg has been one of my favorite battles to study about, lots of stuff happed, lots on accident too.

Did your teacher make you guys march pickets charge?

that was the best part.  we walked most of it with one of the head tour guides.  then, once we crossed the Emittsburg Road, we ran the last 120 yards or so.  that was actually pretty cool.  i was the flag bearer, and I got to take a dive.  (we did use a confederate battle flag, which was kinda funny, because one of the guys on our trip was this black kid from the ghetto.  i got a picture of him holding the flag.  not to be offensive, but it was pretty funny).

i really enjoyed my time as a reenactor, and if I had the chance I'd definately do it again.  but what our teacher had us do was just ********.  don't get me wrong, I love going to Gettysburg.   I learned a lot more about the battle that I hadn't known before then (and thats saying something).

this was just wrong though.  I mean, we're going into senior year, most of the guys didn't care enough to want to do that anyway, and what we were given as 'muskets' would've be right at home in a junk bin.  he didn't even let me use the toy cap gun I picked up there ( I know, thats the little kid in me), or let us pick up a sword (only 42 bucks man!  I had more that enough for that with me).  basically, it just wasn't necessary.  maybe for kids in 4th grade, but its not like it was 'teaching' us anything.  the most it could've would have been that the men marched in columns, and attacked in solid massed lines, but we've been learning that since about 4th grade.  it just fed into his ego.  one of the chaperons bought him a sword (of course he got one...) and he then used that to lead us around.  the guy's ego must've been about as wide as he is....

nahh football is clearly the best sport. The real football I mean. The kind that actually involves your feet. And a ball. Mischief [:-,]

pics are pretty fuzzy but the bike looks quite good from what I can see.

just wondering, has anyone else noticed that a lot of the guys who participated in the first YG GB seem to have vanished from these forums?  A lot from the second round didn't come back either. I know some of them still hang around the LEM, but the rest just seem to have *poof*

ya I noticed that too. There only like 3 or 4 that are on the lem  that I know of, the others have vanished from thin air! (or just the forum)

yg, the bike looks good from here, but the pics are a bit fuzzy like tanky said.

same here yg.  looks good.  asfar as the missing guys thing is concerned, they've probably got caught up in other 'normal' stuff. i.e.- dating, jobs, et cetera.  I've noticed that many of us haven't been posting that recently (including yours truly) for whatever reasons.

glad to be back.  I've been checkin up on stuff, around the forum, but I just haven't bothered posting.  I've been busy with scouts.  i was away at Philmont New Mexico for two weeks on a trek. we did 72 miles over hills and all.  the food was bad, although palitable, and it rained every day we were on the trek, although not right when we were hiking thankfully.  anyways, yeah I need to get more build time in.....
