AUSSIE/ANZAC GB 2006 Jan 26 to Sept 21st

Jules no problems with the sig, I’ve got it down to a fine art now and it only takes me a couple of minutes to do (it also helps that I have your existing sig on file for reference).

I know that the kick-off date is the 26^th but it is unlikely that I’ll be starting then, but as soon as I finish some other commitments I’ll be right into things.

Ok, count me in ('sif that isn't a given with us lot nowdays).

Thinking of doing a Miles Magister MkI, just to be a tad different.

I know they were used as trainers so would it be suitable for this one Jules?

Darren, don't mean to be a pain, but could you give me a heads up on doing these sig things??

Need to update mine for the BoTA and this GB.

Which program do you use btw?

Sean I'll have to check out the name of the program when I get home from work, but it's a very simple little app that's perfect for what I need to do with sig's.

I've got your sig on file so I'll update it tonight for you and send it off.  Tell me, has your email address changed from the last time I sent you one?

Hey 3ggs, I haven't built the Hasegawa Mosquito personally but I have seen the RAAF version (the silver doped one) that was made by a friend of mine at IPMS.  Bottom line it is a good kit that looks great when built up. 

From the reviews I have read though, it seems that the Tamiya kit is the one to go for in either 48th or 72nd scales.

Tom I used to have (many years ago) my PC partitioned between windows and SCO UNIX so that I could play around with UNIX in my spare time.  The only problem I found was that I never used the UNIX portion of the system because I was always playing games, or in MS office, or on CompuServe (shows you how long ago this was), so I ended up just dumping the UNIX altogether.

Worked all day today , but got the Magister out of the cupboard when I got home.

Kit looks ok inside the wrapping, but need to make some room on the bench so I can make a start.

Should be good fun!

Sorry for my absence lately guys i've had one of those hell weeks at work, you know the ones where nothing goes to plan despite your best efforts......

Anyhow i'm back and i've updated page 1 with everyones details and i've even made a start on my Spit MK VIII, It was last years unfinished build that i'm determined to finish before i make a start on the P-40N which is going to be in John Waddy's scheme of overall green over grey with the white tail and wing leading edges... Ok so i pulled out the half finished Hasegawa MK VIII and to my horror the sharks fin rudder is missing so i stole the rudder from one of my ICM kits which seemed to be about a half a mil to long so i shaved a bit of the bottom and dry fitted it until it matched, it means that when i eventually make the ICM kit that i'll have to use the normal Spitfire rudder but thats cool i'll just make it as a MK IX in desert colours which i think were based in Italy.......

So thats the plan, work on the Spit VIII and my MK V at the same time and finish them both before i work on anything else.......

Well I am in on this, I might not start my build for a bit as I am finishing up the Tiger II for the BoG GB and ready to start the S-100 for the BoA GB... that one will take me abit.  There's about 3,000 pieces to it!  (okokok I am a liar, more like 200 but still... it seems that way!!!)  I also need to locate some Schnellboot Weisse for this too to do it right... I might try to fake it with a custom mix if worse goes to worst.  I think White Ensign is the only maker for that color... does anyone have experience with their paint?  Just curious how it sprays...

I'm in with another long build... an AM SBD-x (have to check the model but believe it was 3's) of the RNZAF, hopefully the one with the colorful stomach holding a wine bottle nose art, but at least one of the other 14 given to the RNZAF but the USMC.. I might go search online and see what decals might be out there for that squadron if any (probably none but who knows?)

I have started doing the research for the P-39 and hopefully i'll start work on it soon. I have also finished the paint job on the Special Hobby Miles Magister. I have only to seal it with 'one go' then decal it.

Thanks to Daniel (Pingtang) I can now do a 1/48 RNZAF Avenger! Thank you Daniel. I can now do a British FAA as well as the Kiwi Avenger, one of my all time favourite aircraft!

I posted this in another thread but I thought you guys might like to know that the Hasegawa Spitfire Mk.IX has been re-boxed and released by Revell AG.  At my LHS the Hase kit goes for around $55 (depending on which release version you get) while the Revell kit goes for $38 which is a pretty decent saving.

As a question to the group, has anybody used the Eduard PE set for the Hasegawa P-40E before?  If so was it worth while or am I just better off just putting in a seat harness?

I was feeling a bit bad about "hijacking" the Build by suggesting it go to ANZAC, so I looked in my stash and found a P40E to do up in Aussie markings in addition to the PV1.

I opened the PV up last night...not bad.  Not alot of interior detail though, seriously considering an interior details set or perhaps new flaps and engines, have to check the budget (a/k/a large coffee can filled with change).

Looking forward to seeing some photo postings...

Nothing much to report at the moment other than the fact that I ordered a few of Tom's highly recommended Colors of Eagles from GMW today for my P-40E, so they should be here in about a week or so.

Other than that I have decided to go for an Ultracast resin seat with Sutton harness rather than the Eduard PE set, so I'll probably order that tomorrow.

Tom the fact that you told me they were Vallejo was the main reason I got them .  I was looking through the Vallejo Model Air range and realised they didn't have RAF Interior Green or Azure Blue, so I figured the Colors of Eagles range should suit me very nicely.

Darren - yeah I like that they supply most of the WWII aircraft colors, I really wish they would supply the Japanese and Italian colors as well, but I can find those in Model Air I am sure.  Even better is that they are readily identifiable by name, unlike the Model Air!

About to make a start on the Miles Magister.

I'm quite surprised at how clean this kit is, considering it's a MPM kit I thought it look alot 'rougher'.

Just checked out the finish I need for an Aussie Magister and it says Aluminium Dope.

What pray tell is this???

And 'Glossy Aluminium' is the other thing I am not familiar with.

Would I be right in assuming Dope is like a Flat Aluminium finish, and Glossy would be sorta Chrome??

If the above is right then I reckon I'll give BMF a go and see how it looks.

Would be nice to compare it with an Alclad finish.

Ease of application, overall look etc.

These are some images of my (almost) finished Magister. I used the Humbrol 27002 for the fueslage (doped aluminium) and Hu 27001 for the engine cowling and undercarriage spats. The whole thing received a coat of 'One Go' to give it a good gloss finish. The Hu27002 is a good match  but the Hu 27001 isn't.
