Some progress on the Wessex and C-130.  Replacement decals arrived from the UK this week and I have started applying them, no disasters so far!

Decalling also continues on the C-130 and I need to finish off some exhaust pipes as well. Gee I love cutting a  bzillion walkway decals and trying to keep them aligned....

Cheers

I got a little progress on the Spitfire... I decided to order the canopy masks as I was having a bit of a problem getting it together with either tamiya tape or BMF.. even with the BMF the lines were so faint I decided the masks were a better option for me... so once they come I will be ready to go and finished fairly soon!

I just got some Tally Ho masks (in Snowy Mountains Models site as the "THP..." ID) & have found these the best so far regarding material & stickiness. I'm also pondering going permanently with masks instead of decals for insignia as I never seem to be able to make the clear bit outlining the decal go & hide somewhere.

My next birdcage canopy though will definitely be 1 string at a time - slow but I've never been happy with the canopy masks after you've gone through all those coats of primer & paint, with various layers of clear in-between, just seems to end up hiding the actual edge until you take it off & then it's too late. Problem I'm having with painting insignia is trying to get an opaque white, it's taking weeks & god knows how many airbrush cleans just to get hide the wing colour.

Camel progress: I went back & rebuilt the cockpit cross-brace from aluminium tube as the length didn't quite match the motor - finally got it closed up. PE time now, all of those holes on the fusulage have nice little brass trim around them.

Managed to finish the applying the BMF to the Magister yesterday.

Gave her a sealing coat of Future and polished the nose cone with Gunze 1000 polishing compound.

Very shiny!!!!

Now it's the wheel ***'ys and final assembly, and should all be done!!

Except for decals and a flat coat to make the BMF look like Doped Aluminium.

Well guys,

I have finished a couple for the build. First the 1/72 Matchbox Wessex. Kti decals for 725SQN. It turns out the instructions aren't so good for colours and I used the wrong blue for the fuselage.  I also found out that there was never an '86' in the fleet.  Oh well.  It's done now and I'm not gunna change it :)

Second is the Revell/Matchbox 1/144 C-130.  I added Aeroclub nacelles and props and scratch built the aircon intakes on the right hand side of the fusleage. Decals from Hawkeye - 36SQN. Colour on this one is also wrong, But close enough for me. Still need to add some antennas (one day).

Cheers

Not alot of progress on my side.

Life and motivation are really getting in the way of things, appears the same for most people this year.

Have managed to finish the fuselage and the wheel struts.

Now onto glueing all together, adding the final details, and she's done.

My Grey Nurse is patiently sitting in her box waiting for a second coat of grey... I was having trouble masking the canopy due to small frame lines so I got the black magic set, unfotunately I started up another build in the waiting time.  I just started 4/10's at work this week so the extra day off a week will add to my modeling time and hopefully I can get her back on the desk!!!

Winter in Wodonga has slowed progress right down on all of my models as they are all up to tyhe stage of airbrushing. Unfortunately it's too cold to open up the windows to do any airbrushing, never mind the drying time has increased greatly. Bugger!

The Aussiemodeller site has been updated with photos from the Melbourne Expo 2006 and some walkarounds of a RAAF F-111 and a Beaufort.

Modelling time has been absolute zero this month, and so has the weather!

Work has been flat out for 15 hours most days with water pipes bursting all over town. Great for the wallet, bad for lifeSad [:(]

Going to try and mask the windshields AGAIN.

These are so fiddily I'm going greyer by the second, and there ain't a whole lot of colour left on my head.

Hopefully will finish this month.

Same here but hopefully if the weather plays the game today I will be able to touch up the cam on the P-39. I drew the demarcation lines for the cam on with pencil but missed a few of them when spraying the grey on. Sign - Oops [#oops]

Hi guys. I've also been snowed under with work but hopefully that'll now slow back down for a bit. I've been finishing off the Mitchell but the Camel is still progressing. I lost a small but visible P/E piece & gave up after 3 attempts to make a substitute. Then my nephew was visiting - he's an apprentice jeweller - & came back with a lovely tiny piece of brass almost identical to the original. About to start painting although I'm not used to the arse-about paint/decal vs build sequence needed for stringbags.

Tony good to see you back on line after so long.  Unfortunately Jules was running this build but as he is computerless at the moment we only see him very occasionally.  So if you want to join in, just go for it.  By the way what kit is your Mk.IX ICM or Hase?

Sean I had no idea it got that cold in Alice Springs, I thought it was boiling hot all the time.

Carl how about some pics?

I'm in the same bucket as all of you I'm afraid with work being totally nuts lately meaning my modeling time has been next to zero.  I haven't picked up the P-40 for a few weeks now but it currently sitting with the cockpit assembled ready to be inserted into the fuselage so that I can add the wings.

Thanks Darren, good to see you here. More time now that the baby is 6 months old...
My Spitty is the Occidental one, with a new Ron's Resin nose. This is not an option I'll take again, but Ill finish this one off.
Keep going with the P-40, look forward to seeing it.

I just finished another 6 month project so any notion of my own time went out the window for a month or so - hopefully I'll get some brating space now.

Currently putting the final touches to that B-25 (at last), researching my grandfather's history for the camel & finishing off the Curtis Shrike. I've found 3 Camel's that Grandpa mostly flew but buggered if I can find any reference to what letter they had on the side. (D1884, D1901 & E1410) - where do you find that out?

While at the AWM this w/e doing the above research I took more pics - some really detail on the P40E which might inspire you. I also got lucky with that SE5 they have parked in the corner behind the fence. I was allowed to hop the fence & get these shots. (All shots on my fotki site: http://bandhaboy.fotki.com/). Also more on the Spi MkII that they have there.

Carl, you could try and have a look at:

http://www.australianflyingcorps.org/2002_1999/afc_history.htm

If you can't find the specific aircraft that you are looking for you're probably going to have to either go something generic or take a wild guess.

Btw I just checked out your site and its got some great reference material, consider it bookmarked.

Aussie 747- Forgot to mention your builds mate, looking real goodSmile [:)]

Darren-Yeah it's gets bs cold here. On the way to work the other morning it was -2, ended up being 23 that day.

While it's not the coldest place in Oz, we do have the biggest temperature shifts, being in the middle of the desert and all kinda makes sense.

On a lighter note, FINALLY got the decals on the Magister tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's a flat coat of Future, then a couple of braces to attach the nose cone and photo time!!!!!

Might add the BMF didn't turn out as nice as I had pictured in the good ol' minds eye, but to late now.

Hmmmm I think a small nudge is needed to get us back on to the first page.

Nothing much in the way of progress to report at the moment, but I'm going to pull the P-40 out tonight so I can at last make some progress on this build.

No progress here as I finish a model for (yet) another group build. My Spitfire is next in the queue after that, will have to be to finish it in time.
Harvs - I think you might have posted some of my models on the Aussie Modeller site. Keep up the good work.

Tony, if you tell me which ones they are i'll put your name to them. We would like to add the names of all those that built the models if at all possible.

Gday Dave,
They're all in the gallery and named appropriately, thanks.
Love that site. When I'm building aircraft, I'm there all the time.

Tony, i'm glad you like the site. Big Smile [:D] If you have models of anything other than aircraft we would also like to see them. We want to diversify and get away from the idea that we only cover aircraft. So if you have vehicles, figures, ships or any other form of model please send us photos and maybe even an article if you want!

Well I was going to post some photos of my completed but yet to be installed cockpit for the P-40 but it seems photobucket is down for maintenance, so unfortunately it'll have to be tomorrow night.

Gday Harvs,
Will do, think I might have some stuff almost ready to go. I don't have any motorbikes or trains, but can probably give you some of anything else.

Sorry these are not the greatest shots but I just couldn't get the lighting right.  The cockpit was detailed with the Eduard color PE set and I used a little Mig Pigments Gulf War Sand mixed with Humbrol thinner to try and give the pit that desert dusty feel.  Anyway here are a couple of pics of my Kittyhawk Mk.IA front office.

Very nice office DarrenApprove [^]

How do you get your seatbelts to sit so nice and snug?

Well, FINALLY finished the Magister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be the LAST time I ever try and foil smething that doesn't have a multitude of panel linesSigh [sigh]

Unfortunately I can't take pics at the moment, and I wont use excuses like 'flat batteries' or 'I lost my cable', I'm going original old schoolShock [:O]

My mummy has it!!Big Smile [:D]

So until I can prise it from her fingers without getting a clout around the ears (she broke hers, found out the hard way that cameras DON'T bounceBanged Head [banghead]) pics will have to waitSad [:(].

But it really is finished, honest.

Thanks Sean, the seatbelts were just gently bent into shape and then held down with a tiny drop of CA.  Although next time I will try and remember to take pictures before assembling the cockpit tub.

Finally got my camera back today, so here are a couple of pics of the Magister in BMF

In hind sight I shoulda painted it but I really wanted to try the foil approach.

It worked for the most part, but the more curved areas show up some wrinkles that I couldn't smooth outSad [:(]

The nose cone is Chrome BMF that I polished with Gunze 1000 and then covered in Future so the aluminium wouldn't oxidise.

The rest is Matt Aluminium BMF that was coated with a Flat Base/Future mix to try and get the finish of doped aluminium.

Kinda close but not quite exact.

Good fun to build, simple kit with a few intense fit problems, but definately a worthy subject to have in the collection.

I'm happy with the finished product and enjoyed modelling with you guys again.

Hopefully by the next Aussie GB we'll have our mojo back.
