KV Groupbuild Feb. 2nd, 2006 - Jan. 7th, 2007
Posted by archangel571 on Saturday, February 11, 2006 1:04 AM

"With all the new Trumpeter KV kits on market, I'm very eager to jump on mine after the holidays and was wondering if anyone might be interested. I'd say let anyone with Tamiya kits join also. Should be some variation with the different types and green or whitewash schemes.

If anyone hasn't seen the Trumpeter kits, they are sweet and only cost $25. The one feature I really like is the single long run with sag for the top instead of 40-50 indies to piece together. " -Eric/tigerman

To continue tigerman's effort, this will be the official thread for the KV GB 2006.  The build period will be from Feb. 2nd, 2006 to Jan. 8th, 2007.  (a week after new year, so some slackers, such as me, n late comers can still wrap up.)  The kits can range from 1/72 up of any KV chassis based tanks and variants.  Aftermarket additions are always a welcomed sight.  Posts for links to reference materials are encouraged.  After all it's what a GB is all about.

Suggested kits:

Trumpeter: KV-2, KV-1 Simplified Turret, Small Turret, Heavy Cast Turret, Ehkranami-Applique Armor Turret, Light Weight Cast Turret, and those German captured ones when they become available.

1/48:

Gah, what's up with the auto formatting and how do i get rid of the double spacing...

Notes:

Anyway, this will be the continuation of the KV-1 & KV-2 GB from tigerman's gauging interest thread on the armor forum.  The list of participants is from what I gathered from that thread.  If there is any changes or anything you want me to add please do post.  I changed the name to KV groupbuild so the topic can open up a little more for the other variants.

Well, of course, I'm definately in, just not sure yet when. I will probably start in March. The kit looks quite nice.

I have three in the works:

1) Tamiya KV-1C OOTB - built as a paint technique tester.

2) Tamiya KV-1C, to be detailed with a lot of AMS

3) Sturm Pz.Kpf.Wg. KV II 754 r (Tamiya KV-2 kit with MIG Productions resin set)

Well, had a hiccup with the Tamiya KV-1C. The resin wheels I have didn't quite work out. Not sure what to do with that one.

Meanwhile I decided to check out the Trumpeter KV-II - excellent kit! Nearly finished, doing one OOTB first. I'll have photos this weekend.

Is it too late to join in? I have the Tamiya 1/35 KV-1B  kit #35142. Although this will be a straight OOB build.

Nix on the OOB option. I finally unboxed the kit and took a good look at it (Tamiya KV-1B). It's an old kit that was ready to receive a tamiya motor (mucho patching). The vinyl track only has detail on one side....yeeeech. I've already dispensed a check for friul track links, and an eduard photo-etch set. The molding is pretty crisp and clean tho. I'll patch the holes in the lower hull while I anxiously await the aftermarket products.

On photos:  I'll try to post in progress photos when I figure out how to save disk space and finalize at the same time. My camera takes mini-cd's and finalizing a disks cuts down the memory.

On references:  Jeff Herne mentioned http://www.tankmaster.com  and I've seen some color KV pix there. I've also found http://www.russianwarrior.com with some b&w vintage KV pix.

On progress:  My KV has been detergent dipped and scrubbed, and I've removed the Tamiya logo and embossed lettering.

Happy Modeling

Anyone aware of any company made aluminum barrel for KV Family ?

It's actually weird that Tamiya now has a special package of the KV-1 including metal tracks and the aluminum barrel.  I can only assume it came from eduard since Tamiya tends to use their product.

Anyway, thanks for the awesome amount of info.  Of course you are more than welcomed to join the GB at any time, that 's one reason it has a one year build period.

Alex, I had you added since the beginning. Looking forward to see your build soon.

Got the KVII built just been to lazy and lack of time to post the pics so here they are Had to fill in a few gaps on the turret as you can see from the pics, but pretty easy build up. Next up sand give the kit a bath and then paint.

Yea, I feel ya on that.  try debate which of the 6 KV kits to build with PE and which one to build first.  now THAT is a torment.
