Put me in the group, I'll make a small 1/400 U-Boot with a special - and most unusual - Mediterranean camo scheme with modified AA guns. It'll be U-565, a type VIIC U-Boat, based in Salamis, Greece, in April 1942.

Here's what the camo scheme looks like:

Source: U-Boats in Action, Squadron Signal

I'm not gonna start building the kit until this summer, I've got other kits to do first (like the Schnellboat for the Battle of Atlantic GB). I've already done several of those 1/400 subs, they look easy to build but they take a long, long time to get done properly: I usually need several weeks (although I know it could be done within a week-end if I'm well prepared).

A little suggestion: your first message in this GB should include a list of all the models which are going to be built; I guess you're gonna write it down as soon as you have more time... Smile [:)]

Best regards,
Chris

Guess I am not going to build a Messershimt, looked at my stash I have to many kits already and need to stop spending money on more kits and start saving it. On the good side I have a Roden Gloster Sea Gladiator I can build or Revell Sword Fish so one of those will be my build.

bobbaily.........Go for it man, I just read some Italian secret papers and they considered the Battle as going on until early September 1943!!!!!!!Clown [:o)].....so your P-38 fits in....Wink [;)]

KINGTHAD.........Welcome, let's see what your statch puts out...

TO ALL in the Battle:.............On the weekend I'll put out the badge,....so watch your 3 o'clock position!!!!!

I desided use Propeller Models Solid Wood Kit of the Fiat BR-20 "Cicogna". Paint scheme will be that of the "41° Stormo Bombardamento Terrestre" which was formed in July of 1939 at the Reggio Emila Airport base. The 41st flew bombing missions over Malta during 1942 both in daylight and night.\

Gera,

I couldn't pursuade you to extend the theater date out a little, could I?  I have a 1/48 ProModeler      P-38 Lightening with decals for the 27th Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group that was involved in attacks on Italy starting August 1943, based on the info below:

http://www.1stfighter.org/history/1stfighter.html

If not, I'll search for something else.

Thanks

Oh man, I wanted to do a Malta Beaufighter (Carl Fumerton's) or Spitfire (George Beurling's) but I may not have time to do join this GB.  I'll keep you posted as to whether or not I can fit this one in.

Made up my mind did some reading and the Italians used the Messerschmit BF-109G so I will pick up a Academy 1/72 BF-109G-6 and get some Italian decals for it and that will be my buildSmile [:)] I think the BF-109K did not come until much later during the war not sure.

The schedule is getting tighter and tighter with every group build but I'd like to try to get in on this one.  I won't have time until later in the build but I picked up a Trumpeter 1/72 LCM(3) a couple of weeks ago and would like to do it as part of the Torch or Sicily landings.  Will have to do some research though as I think the kit only has D-day markings.  The kit has the parts though to do either the American or British version so I'll have to check it out.

Chris.............

The Macchi C.202  is perfect since it flew from 1941 until almost the very end. The 50 Stormo in North Africa did an outstanding job even with all odds against it. Their story is very intersting. Did a lot of damage to the British medium bombers. There are excellent references of it all over internet. There are many movies of it which you can watch online....Go to http://www.archivioluce.com  this is the official Italian Information system which worked during all WW2. Just log in and do a search. Its in Italian so try "velivoli" or "guerra in mediterraneo" to start and you will be amazed at the fantastic movies........Have fun.

PS: During the 70's I visited often Tweeksburry Mass often since I represented Wang computers here and my oldest brother lived in Hannover.Big Smile [:D]

::groan:: will the GB's never stop coming??? Wink [;)]   ok... let me think about this.. this is one of my  favorite theaters as I spent quite some time in the Med while in the Navy, and got to see the spots of many famous WWII battles... I'll have to look at my build list, and the GB list and maybe tailor them a bit...

Hi Darren:......Right it goes up to Operation "Husky"  the invasion of Sicily which was on the 9th and 10th of July 1943, so vehicles are also welcomed and naturally ships.

The Battle for the Mediterranean
Posted by solid on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 3:44 PM
    • The Battle of the Mediterranean started in June 10, 1940 until July 1943....................

The Battle of the Mediterranean was waged during World War 2 to attack and keep open the respective supply lines of Allied and Axis armies, and to destroy the opposing side's ability to wage war at sea.
Outside of the Pacific War battles, the Mediterranean saw the largest conventional naval warfare during WWII. In particular, Allied forces struggled to supply and retain the key naval and air base of Malta.
This battle covers, Declaration of War by Italy ; The French Mediterranean Fleet, Attack on Taranto, Battle of Matapan, Battles for Crete, and Attacks on Malta and Operation "Husky".

So..Many, many models can participate from, Italy, GB, USA, France,Germany, and Greece (PZL´s). such as: Italian Torpedo Bombers, fighters and Rescue Aircraft as well as others.....British Torpedo Planes, fighters and bombers, French Aircraft of all kinds, German aircraft of all kinds and Greek planes of all kinds......Many types of Ships etc..etc...
Vehicles...........are also welcomed, since  the invasion of Sicily, Operation "Husky", took place on the 9th and 10th of July 1943!!!!

Starting Date:.......February 28, 2006........Ending Date:........September 30, 2006.

Hope you join me on this Episode...
Here is the GB Badge.......
