I'm looking to start work on my Frank in about a month, hopefully we'll see some action pick up here.  Smile [:)]

Hey, Jaypack, I think I'm going to have to drop out of this build. I haven't even started my Zero yet (or even purchased it for that matter) and I don't think I'll have time to finish it before the deadline. This is mainly because I have a B-24 in another build that will be the focus of most of my modeling time. Besides,  the Steelhead are starting the fall run, so my spare time probably won't be spent crouched over my kitchen table for a while, if ya know what I mean! Wink [;)] Thanks for letting me in anyway, though, and sorry I couldn't participate.

Happy building, fellas!

Hi guys,

Well as I promised I am posting my pics of my completed Tamiya 1/48 A6M3. Stayed up late last night, one thing led to another and before you know it I was done. It went together really well everything was pretty straight forward, except the color references in the insrtuctions. If you decide to build one of these do not go by the instructions for color reference. They are DEAD wrong!! I started this build doing my research. By the time I got around to building it I forgot and for some reason went by the insrtuctions for the interior color. Looked good all metalic blue and sparkleySmile [:)]. Well all that work on the office helped build my parts box as I had to purchase another kit. But it was a small price to pay ($12.00) for such a valuable lesson. Always do your research. In my case, always remember you did your research! I will say I did learn a lot about Japanees aircraft. It is a very interesting bunch too. I painted my zero as if it just came from the factory. If it had been in action it would have a "carmel" color to it. This "carmel" was applied to protect it against the harsh elements (the weather, salt, ect. not the US Army Air Corps, need more than "carmel" to save your a** from that!)  I couldn't come up with what I thought was a suitable "carmel" so here it is straight form the factory.

I would like to thank Jaypack55 for coming up with and producing this GB. It was my first and the first one finished. I learned alot and will continue to follow this. Would also like to thank all the participants. Your a great bunch.

Thank you

sounds good! While I'm at it, I'll post on the progress of my builds:

The Corsair is almost done, but I think I overdid the paint chips, so I'm gonna try and fix that.

The KI-61 is also almost done, it just needs final assembly.

Sorry for no pics, but my photobucket isn't working.

-Josh

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

Hi guys,

My eyes are back to normal and I decided to finish my 1/48 Tamiya A6M3 for this GB. Before I had my little accident I had three builds going at the same time. Well I had alittle time to think and get reorganized and since this was my first GB then I will finish this one first. So before this weekend is over I will be done with my first GB ever! I will be posting pics on Sunday 9/10.

Thank You

Well from what I can see Corsair number one is finnished except for the cockpit. After the flat coat I am very happy how the pastel weathering turned out. Really toned it down. Just the look I was looking for.

I think the first bird is about done. Finnished up the weathering today. Let me know what you think of it. I tried some new stuff. I wanted to make it look like it had been sitting in the sand collecting sand dust. The weathering looks very amplified in the photo due to the flash and is much more subtle when looking at the model in person.

Zip, glad to hear you're enjoying the Tamiya kit so far, do let us know how the front windscreen fits up. I've heard that the fit is "a little off" to quote the gentleman exactly. Good luck though!

Oh, by the way...Steve, not to forget you, your Corsairs look good, masking lines are a little rough, but overall a couple of sharp birds. Keep up the good work!

Zip looks like everything is starting to come together though. However I think you might have the interior color wrong, shouldnt it be the metallic blue you painted it the first time???? LOL, just messing with you, sorry i couldnt resist. Looks like the fit is good. I think i might have done one kit that i didnt have to fill the wing root a little. Puttying the wing root seems like a pretty standard part of my builds. By the way i sent that e-mail over to your hotmail address. If you arent getting them let me know and we'll keep doing things through PM's or if  you have MSN messenger or something similar.

Ya I paid like $12.00 for my Tamiya and I also have a A6m2 that I paid $12.00 for. I can't understand why they are so cheap. I keep thinking something is going to fit like Censored [censored] but it keeps on flowing together. So far the only gaps is the little one in the wing root and it's not that bad.

Thanks

Nice work so far on the HAMP, Zip. I'm planning on getting the Hasegawa type 21 (for the engraved lines and cockpit detail) and then getting a Tamiya kit to rob the decals from. Sounds crazy I know, but I can get the Tamiya kit dirt cheap from Tower Hobbies (like $13 or so), so I figure having an extra kit in the stash would be worth it. As soon as "Mamma" let's me have some play money, I should be in business, heh, heh, heh!Blush [:I]

Speaking of zeros...Here are some progress pics of mine

Going together smoothly. Just alittle filler need in the wing root, no biggy.

Thanks for looking

I'd have to agree with Zip on that one, Steve. the more pics the better, I love seeing other people's progress and methods and such! Maybe if I'd get off my duff and start my Zero, I could post some pics too Confused [%-)].

Well two more pics,

Got the props on and a few coats of future. Now all that is left is to weather them like they've been put through hell.

If you're getting tired of the pics let me know, and i'll post less of them.

Hey All,

I'm a member of this GB (my first) but just wanted to say I'm a little behind in getting started on my kit.  I'm just finishing up my last build but stupid things like work, Reserve annual training in Bulgaria, and now a likely deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan for 12-18 months starting in October keep getting in the way and slowing me down.

However, I plan to start my Eduards 1/48 P-40N before I go to school in October (requirement before going down-range) and plan to take it with and complete there.

I also have to give kudos to Dave and Gedenke and all the others for great looking builds so far.  Dave, the P-40N scheme I'm doing is similar to yours with the white tail, though I'm building 'Empty Saddle' flown by MAJ Arland Stanton, USAAF out of Gusap, New Guinea.  I have the Pyn-Up decal set and love the nose art for this one.

Well, ended up closing up the fuselage today afterall. I can't say I care much for the way this kit is going together. As others have said, these inserts are a pain in arse.

I built that kit and have had NO trouble with the insert's, it's much easier putting the tail insert's on the fusalage halves BEFORE closing up the fusalage, the allignment is a whole lot nicer that way (no gap).

Just a little bit more progress from me. Both birds are now completely decalled. Need to seal and weather them. Glue on the props. and they are done. Then for the base. As always let me know what you HONESTLY think.

Here are my recent progress pics. It's a great kit going together nicely. If I were working on this build alone it would be done by now. Not that I'm in a hurry just that this would go together that fast.

Thanks for looking,

Zip,

Now the big question: What color did you use on the cockpit? Sometimes a paralyzing decision for IJN and IJA aircraft modelers. Seems to be more interest in this area. I've studied lots of on-line articles and forums for what to use on my 'George'. In the end, I'm just going to wing-it.

By the way, the cockpit look terrific!

Thanks Toother.

This looks like a good kit. I can't understand though why the price of this and the Tamiya A6M2 is so cheap ($12.00) compared to there other kits. They seem to be of the same quality as there other kits. Oh well, I really like this it and looks like it will turn out to be a fine little plane. Very interesting researching the Japanese aircraft too.
