I'm just a little curious as to why you won't use it, what you'll do instead, and what the interior parts look like. Can you post a photo?

I am not including the set because it won't be seen. I am putting it in a dio and so it won't be seen, I am going to use the set on another Sturmtiger - yet to come that won't be in a dio...

Here are the latest pics with the Atak zim and some PE on it...

Ok heres some more pics....

No, the top is not glued on, only resting.

Btw, anyone know of a good source for british tank crew members?? I need to replicate the ones in the following pic, if they are close that's ok, but if not I will have to scratch them :(

Hey guys, I hate to say this but I have to pull out of the GB, I feel I am cheating it because I am not going full out on the interior and seeing that this is a GB for that purpose I do not feel I am giving the most possible because of the plan I have for this vehicle (putting it in a dio and the inside won't be seen)Sad [:(] I will be sure to post finished pics of it in the amour forum.

I'm still in, though I haven't done anything for a while other than think about it. I might use some balsa as well as the styrofoam, and I got some K&S Brass shims that I might use for the ammo racks.

Very cool stuff! I'm in the process of adding the wiring/tubing to the Tiger, as well as the lubrication points.

I have to get my hands on some 1/16 soon!

I'd pay to see those pics in FSM. They look precisely real! Keep them coming, please.

Edit: As a subscriber, I'd pay regardless of whether they're in there or not, but I'd rather see them in!

Hey, I just got an idea. Let's get together a "Showcase piece" for the Magazine of all the builds with interiors, and Treadwell can headline it!

A bit more work, with pill-packets and yoguhrt containers, mostly, and a bit of plasticine and sprue:

I thought about opening up the engine hatch and including an HL 230, but I'm not sure that it will be worth the trouble. I'll make some fans and stick them on some yoghurt container, and make some radiators, but that will be about it for the rear.

The transmission case still needs a bit more finesse, obviously. I'll end up making some resin parts for these, as I have a Dragon Jagdpanther somewhere.

I still have to make three ammunition racks for the 88, plus I made a plasticine ammo bag for the MG, and I'll make resin copies of that.

The gun will take a lot of work, and there are seats for the driver and radio operator, which will just about be flat on the floor by the looks of it, but I think I can manage to get enough "kind of detail" that will make a quick glance through the hatches think that there's an interior there.

lookin good so far, brews, but i gotta ask, why don't you make it a little easier on yourself and use evergreen sheet styrene or something like it?-- anyway, keep the pics comming man-- it's getting interesting , especially with the various materials you are using!! keep up the good workBig Smile [:D]--treadwell

I've been asked the same question by another friend of mine. I could say that the reason is cost - but that's not entirely true. Although, if I wanted to make it LOTS easier, I could have used the Verlinden Productions Jagdpanther Interior (which I think is for the later Tamiya model) which costs about $46US, or in other words, about 3 times what I paid for this kit.

I have a pretty good stock of 5, 10, 20 and 40thou card, but I don't have anything in the way of textured card, and that starts to get prohibitively expensive for my taste. I'm not a professional architect - I model for fun, and I can't recoup my costs from clients! <G> So, that's where the pill things come in handy. I find that between aspirin, paracetamol and other capsules that we have in the house, there is a variety of texture which will suffice for various types of floor plate. It's no trouble to use scissors to cut the "backing sheet" away from the pills and capsules.

I do have some Eduard 1:72 German Floor Plate III, for an Sdkfz 7 I'm tarting up, which costs $8 for a sheet from Squadron, but for the purposes of this exercise, I don't think that PE floor plate is warranted.

Once you get stuck into a yoghurt container with scissors, it's actually pretty easy. It's also the sort of material where you can measure once and cut twice or three times and not worry about it.

I did a bit of work on the Jagdpanther on the weekend. I'm finding it fun, challenging, and satisfying, actually. I've compared photos of the interior of the Jagdpanther in the IWM with photos of the Verlinden set, and an elevation scale drawing of the interior through the centreline, and I'd have to say that while the Verlinden set looks good, it's not exactly on the money, at least not for the IWM machine.

I've come to the conclusion that the rear hatch of the Jagdpanther was similar to that of the King Tiger - possibly for standardisation. I might be wrong, but it's a fair assumption, I think.

When I started on the lock & breech of the 88, I made a resin copy of Dragon's Nashorn breech (from their first Nashorn issue - which has been since re-tooled once or twice. This breech differs from the Jagdpanther breech in a number of areas, which I've corrected as far as my limited abilities permit, by slicing, filing, filling etc. Even if I'd copied Dragon's King Tiger breech, it wouldn't be the same as the breech of the machine in the IWM. The breech is probably the most significant interior detail, by the way, in terms of visibility.

I made a recoil guard out of 0.020" card, using the Dragon King Tiger guard as a template, and gave it a flange of 0.010x0.040 strip. This has been superglued to the left-hand-side of the breech. The details on the right-hand-side of the Dragon King Tiger guard seem to be slightly inaccurate, so I'll make new ones.

The most difficult part (or group of parts) to make will be the gun mounting, I think. I have a good feel for this in two dimensions, and a reasonable feel for it in 3 dimensions, but I think that it will need to be constructed / fabricated with a lot of care. I might do it using a sprue "skeleton" and attach plastic card to the skeleton. The sight (which has a periscope that moves in an arc on the superstructure roof) is attached directly to the gun mounting. It is a massive piece to make, and fiddly because the gun is attached to the superstructure, as will the mounting be, but the mounting also rests on a track which is attached to the hull floor plates!

A few more piccies, this time of the still-incomplete breech etc, tacked onto the end of the kit barrel with superglue, as I was keen to see how it was looking.

A progress update (though admittedly off-topic!):

I razor-sawed, motor tooled, scribed, filled and filed the underside - using my Matchbox 1:76 Jagdpanther for reference!!!

My build has been stalled, because I've been O/S more than I've been at home, in the past couple of months! Actually, I could have been away from home even longer, but my office manager put a stop to that, when he remembered I was having most of November off.

I met a Jagdpanther up close and personal yesterday, but I didn't get a peek into its interior. It was a machine that was built post-war, from wartime parts, for evaluation purposes.

However, at Bovington, there is a Centurion that is displayed cut in halves longitudinally, and it's an awesome display, with audio-visuals like a mini IMAX that gives a simulation of combat. You hear the loader speaking from the left, the commander from the right, the engine from the rear (and all around, I guess) and the gun talks, too. It's fabulous. My camera had flat batteries by this stage, though.

I stumbled onto this GB and man, your builds are amazing. Treadwell, that interior is just beyond accolades, can't wait to see the finish product. Almost makes me want to join, I'm waiting for my 1/48 HobbyBoss T-34 with interior to come. I believe its scaled down from the 1/16 kit you guys are building. I was thinking of making it a cutaway - too radical? I mean, how would you have the heart to cover up all that detail?
