Nice chips!  One question, what about the National Insignia?  Should that not also be chipped up?

ah, the chipped national insigna...that's a good question and I have been pondering it.  My first thought is to cut a stencil, airbrush an insigna, then chip it.  Other option is to  paint a couple of patches of silver under the kit decal, chip the decal and then fade it with pastels.  Not sure which route to take yet though...

outstanding job on the weathering on ur zero!  impressive  cant wait to see ur chipped national insigna,  i have see some people cut off small pieces on the decals and put it on the aircraft,  some comes out good, some comes out ok ok, but i like ur idea to recreate the national insigna by hand which i never tried it before since i was not sure how to do it on the US national insigna.

err  about silly putty  i totally misunderstood ya   didnt realized silly putty is other word for blue tac   i was talking abt green/red putty where u fill up the gap then file/sand it.

nice job on fixing the window   i had hard time to recgonied (sp) the mistakes on the window after u repair it smiles.  cant wait to see the compete aircraft

Thanks for the thumbs up. I'm still deciding if I like the way it came out.

As for the P-61 I got it primed last night and discovered I still have some filling and sanding to do. It's amazing how the gray coat shows the seams that you miss. I thought that I would be able to get away without filling and sanding again, oh well back to the putty.

Bob- Your chipping looks really good, very convincing.

Silentmodeler- Yes indeed, putty and sanding, now I understand.

All- With any luck I will be applying the dark earth to the upper surfaces of my P-40 tomorrow.....we shall see.

I dont see any problem with the wing span hang over the base.  I have see alot of base and diorama at the model shows where the wing span is bigger than the base.  its all depend what u want it to be looked.

How did you do the chipping? Was it with tape?

Did you use acrylic over enamel?

This is one of the few that I've seen that looks very realistic.

whoa thats alot of layers of paint!  i never thought of using primer and enamel gloss coat. im wondering what primer is usually for?  is it same as painting the house such as primer first then coat?  but i dont quite understand primer in model world.  boy im still learning something new everyday which is great!
