Looking good Paul!  I've been trying to find one of those Hurricane kits myself so I look forward to seeing your build progress.

I finished building my 1/72 sptifire Mk I but must wait until thursday for my wife to return with the camera before I can post some pics.

Try gluing the wing tops to the fuselage, and then joining the bottom. Sometimes its easier to sand all around the wings as opposed to filling the fuselage/wing joint.

Hi,

here's a quick update photo of the progress on the Hurricane this weekend. It's a pretty straightforward kit so far. No detail in the cockpit though, hence the quick progress. The 2 wing tops don't quite match up with the one piece bottom, so I have changed the build sequence slightly. A fair bit of flash to deal with, especially on the small items.

Great job on the Bo-105.  It captures the feel of the old days, even though it looks like you cheated and used an airbrush instead of a 1/4 inch paint brush.  That has to be the way to do these older Airfix kits, go fast and have fun.  Well, in my case "go fast" is a relative term.  Just slightly ahead of a glacial pace!

The Spitfire looks good too.

I recently bought Airfix "100 years of flight" so I thought I'd join with anyone (or all) in this celebration of Airfix return. Airfix was one of my first building experiences along with some monsters from Aurora Smile [:)] If it's ok to join I'll start with the Sopwith Camel.

Well that helo is a doozy. I think you did a great job. It points up what is fun abt this GB- the kits are so old school that stuff like those 2" half dome rivets take you back to an earlier and innocent age.

Well, after a day and a half (total time spent) of assembly and paint, I finished one of these little Airfix kits that I got in San Diego. This is the Airfix 1/72 scale German MBB Bo-105 helicopter I got there for two bucks.  It's been finished for several days right now. It only took me two days to build, paint, decal, and  dullcoat:

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Duke, NIce work as always.  That Hunter looks pretty cool, nice lines to that one. Thumbs Up [tup]

Bondoman, nicely done Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Difficult build but you pulled it off.

Got the decals on my spitfire last night.  Sorry for the poor quality pic but I'm using my web cam until my wife gets back from her trip.  I used some Aeromaster AM decals for Johnie Johnson's Mk I.

Thanks Bondoman! Yeah, the Hunter will be in desert camo. It should be cooming along fast.

No, that's not me in the helo, it's my sister. That figure, although not evident from the distortion through the canopy, looked more like a woman than a guy when I was painting it. Thus my sister got in and is piloting this!  LOL!

Ok am getting close to starting my Tornado.  I have two bf-109s I am trying very hard to complete.  Once those puppies are done, then it is on to the Tornado!  I haven't done much on the GB but there is still half a year left, lots of time to waste!Big Smile [:D]

We're having a string of 90 deg days here- time to paint!

Thanks for the comments on the Ford- I'm going to take some outside too.

I echo Jeaton's comments. Excellent little trimotor there. You well earned this badge with that build.

The Trimotor came out very well, Bondo.  The photos are well done too.  I say the struggle was well worth it!  The corrugations look good from here.

Here's the Trimotor.

It was a bit of a knutbuster, but I'm happy with the results.

Hi,

I am going to have to change my kit. The dog didn't eat it, the cat did. I was having a lot of problems with the kit anyways, but the final straw arrived when I found the blades had been chewed and some broken by the furry monster. Luckily I have a couple more Airfix kits. Would it be ok for me to change to a Hurricane Mk IIc?

Gentlemen, thank you for the compliments! I really appreciate them.

I picked up a bunch more Airfix kits at the San Diego show a couple of weekends ago. I already got one of them ready for decals and the other is about half done. Thye are the 1/72 scale MBB Bo-105 helicopter (ready for decals) and the Hawker Hunter(half done).

The Hunter:

The MBB Bo-105:

And I even painted the pilot:

That's what I got done so far on these. I'm making the Hunter into a Kuwaiti Hunter. Now if I can get the decals to work. These kits are so old, I don't know if they are still good enough to use even WITH a decal film!

Duke - Great job on the Harrier.  You really made the old kit come out nice.

Razordws - Nice start on the Spitfire.  I've been wanting to find a nice, inexpensive Spit for my kid to build and I've had my eye on the Airfix one. Look forward to seeing it turn out.

Nicely done Duke!!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

I finally got started on my Spitfire MkI (1/72) which I am also entering in the spitfire build.  Pretty straight forward build though I did forget to put in the cockpit the first time around Whistling [:-^]

Thanks Bondoman! I am in the process of building the underwing stores now. The ESCI Harrier I was building along with this one had the AA Sidewinders on it. This one will have only bombs and rockets since I haven't gotten the pylon adapters needed to mount the Sidewinders on this one.

Thanks again for your compliment. I can try to re-shoot this on my wife's silver car when the wife gets home but onbly if I remember.

It's a beauty. Photo it on a realistic background that tells a story. Outdoors is always best, and on the driveway or the roof of a silver car, or the blacktop at school.

What about underwing stores. Me, I like the Falkland war. These guys had AAM's.

Wow, I've always wanted to build the Sundeland too. Good thing I already have three tubes of putty!

Bondoman, thanks for the compliment and the link. They are great!

Here is another pic showing the progress I mentioned in the previous post:

Now all I have to do is paint the details and then she'll be ready for decals.

Having built the Sunderland make sure you order a couple tubes of putty to go with it.  That and a heap of patience is required. Black Eye [B)]

Jeaton, I'm not sure what the question was either, since this build is OOB. The kit decals are for an England based RAF Squadron, or a RAAF aircraft. A Canberra in aftermarket decals ala Suez would be nice, though.

The trimotor is almost finished. I bought a second, reissue, because the decals in the original were no good. The ones in the newer kit are fine, but SERIOUSLY out of register. It looks like there was a second color strike in each color that missed the first by a 1/16" at least. Oh well.

The original kit had almost no part numbers: sort of sporadic on the sprues. The later kit has all of them. Which is strange- why would the original have numbers in the instructions but not on the trees? I'm just not that familiar w/Airfix.

Is your Martin the 1/144? I'd like to find a big 1/72 flying boat; the only one I know of since I can't afford the Mach 2 Mariner is the Airfix Sunderland. Hmmm...

Duke Maddog, the Harrier looks great. Check out Aeroplane magazines 25th anniv. issue on the Falkland war. http://www.aeroplanemonthly.com/

Also, re: my recent comment about cockpits are overated, only that most of my aircraft are airliners and pretty closed up. Otherwise I stand corrected.

Well, I'm still in this one as well. Since it's been so long since I posted last, here's a reminder of what I'm building: Airfix's 1/72 scale Harrier Gr. Mk III

Right now it is mostly assembled and the basic camo pattern is on it. That is the point I was at when this pic was taken:

Right now, I've added all the detail parts; all except the underwing ordinance. I just need to touchup paint those and then this will be ready for decals.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

I'm not sure of the question, but I am sure I'm no expert.  I suppose you are asking about the markings on the Canberra?  Perhaps the answer is in one of my books, should I be able to find that particular book in my disorder!

Those corrugations can be a bear.  I started over with a new kit on a Martin M-130 Clipper because I couldn't get them right, along with other problems.

I have been working (struggling) on the Trimotor for a week. It is just a B**ch. The motor mounts are about 32 pieces, all of which seem to be only aimed at getting the magnetos on the engine fronts up, (or down). And all of this is w/parts the size of a front landing gear on a 1/72 Canberra. (more on which in a minute).

See what its done to me

The wings, corrugated, mate at joints where at least three ribs are missing. Fixed (?) w/ 2 lb fishing line layed along and soaked w/ superglu.

Oh Gawd. Any help much appreciated.

After, I'd like to build the B.1 Canberra.

Can't afford to buy all the books abt this, but is there a definitive date? Suez? Malaya?

Anyone, JEaton?
