Mike, I like the way you finished your Hurricane.  Would you mind sharing the details of the finish?  I'm excited about trying out some new stuff with my Corsair (with that very cool resin pit Cool [8D] ) Many Thanks to a friend!

Sounds cool, Roger. I visited Gettysburg twice when I lived in NY. It's an awesome place, and was quite a humbling experience for me every time I went. I swear I got chills when I stood near the crook in the stone wall (referred to as the 'angle', the only confederate breakthrough point during Pickett's charge).

Would be my pleasure, Roy! (& I'm glad your stuff arrived OK!)  I posted on Frank's A6M2 thread about what I use and how I get the finishes I do on my models. I'll quote them here for you....

1. Preshade 2. Top colors (pastel applications if needed) 3. Future 4. Enamel wash 5. Decals (micro-set, then decal, then micro-sol) 6. More Future 7. Flat coat (usually Pollyscale flat or satin coat)

Mike,

I'll get some pics up soon! The Hellcat just needs some "finishing touches" and I'll show you how I'm getting on with the Corsair. I'm taking my time with the Corsair as I want it to be as good as I can make it.

BTW, thanks for sharing your finishing tips.Thumbs Up [tup] I am not so good at preshading, I need some practice but I think I will have to do more of that to get a better finish.

Roger,

Darren-

Can't wait to see some pics!  Really looking forward to seeing that Corsair.

Roger-

Good to hear from ya' again!  Hope you're having a good time in school!

Mike-

When I read your post about the stone wall at Gettysburg, I remember the exact same feeling when I stood there.  It was quite a humbling experience.

My only advance is that I managed to give the Barracuda an undercoat. Unfortunatly my wife has the rest of the weekend programmed for me  so no more modelling this weekend. Sad [:(]

Unfortunately same goes for me.  Couple that with a couple of very heavy weeks at work and I'm not making much progress on anything at the moment.

Cheers

This is a sorry state of affairs..........Disapprove [V]

Still, chin up chaps! I managed to escape for a short time to the secret workshop and got a few things done.

Hellcat: I am not happy with this one at all.........I took my mask off the canopy and half the Censored [censored]Banged Head [banghead] paint came off!Grumpy [|(] This will take some more time to sort out. To be honest, its not one of my better efforts. Still, I will endevour to make the best of it.Blush [:I]

Lynx: I have been painting the tiny 1/72 doors and adjusting the rear landing gear as the model was sitting a little nose heavy. Waiting for paint to dry on this one.....Whistling [:-^]

Corsair: I got the camo liquid mask on this morning and have left it to dry, I'll shoot the EDS Grey on after I'm done here. Here's a couple of pics, the second is my choice of markings, this is from the Techmod decal sheet, it took me ages to make up my mind which version I would build.....I have now decided that eventually I will build all three, but this one is going to be the first.

Corsair looks great Darren!  Never seen a liquid mask in place before so I've studied the pic carefully.  Bought some of that superglue on the weekend too as part of my wife-sanctioned, weeks-long shopping spree!  LOL

Picked up Osprey's "Helldiver Units of World War 2" as well on the net so I should be able to make some progress towards contributing to this GB!

Hey there Darren, Your Corsair is looking very nice indeed, tell me what made you think of using liquid mask for the camo?  It's not a bad idea at all actually but I would be scared witless that the masking fluid would react with the paint, has this ever happened?

Cheers

Thanks for all your kind words and support fella'sThumbs Up [tup] Glad you approve of the Corsair.

Darren,

The mask I use is called Maskol and its made by Humbrol, it dries into a bright coloured latex film and is brilliant for camo patterns. I've used it on enamels and never had a problem. I recon it would be OK with acrylics too.  I thought of using it when I could'nt get a nice edge on my camo paint jobs. With the liquid mask I just mark out the pattern lightly in pencil then brush on the liquid mask-its so easy! I would certainly recommend giving it a go.

Iv`e been using maskol with acrylics for some time now, and have never had any trouble regarding the paint lifting. So I can attest it`s working like a charm
