Thanks Darren, please do keep those pics coming!  I am really looking forward to seeing her finished.

Just thought I would offer taking your Sea Fury off of your hands for you.  I would hate to see a friend burdened by too many kits to build. Wink [;)]

P.S. I am watching one right now on E-bay, wish me luck!

The FAA GB on page two? Gentlemen, this will not do!!

Here's a quick update.....

I have now put the final satin coat over the Mk.47 and have almost finished the display base. I just need to add the gunsight, antenne and canopy. So with a little luck, she should be finished  up next weekend.

But do not worry! I have plenty of FAA builds in the pipeline and the FAA GB will go on......

IN the stash I still have:

Hawker Sea Fury.

Darren- Glad to see you were on top of this and made it right!

I am taking a little break from the Mk.46, she's been giving me fits.  Maybe I'll start her up again next month.  I have also been thinking about having another go at a Corsair... Disapprove [V]

If your list of "to build" kits gets too long Darren, I would graciously take that Sea Fury off of your hands for you...just thought I would offer! Whistling [:-^]

Once this one is out of the way, I will be taking a summer break from my ever growing FAA collection and getting stuck into my summer project-a 1/48 B-25. Its the Italeri re-boxing of the superb Accurate Minatures kit.........I'll be on that one for a while me thinks.Big Smile [:D]

But do not worry! I have plenty of FAA builds in the pipeline and the FAA GB will go on......

IN the stash I still have:

Hawker Sea Fury.

Sea Harrier FA.2

F-4K Phantom

Hawker Seahawk

Swordfish

Then.....there's the other kits that I want to get my hands on

Classic Airframes 1/48 Gannet, Trumperter 1/48 Wyvern...... Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]

I recon I'll still be here this time next year!Big Smile [:D]

Thanks mate!  I believe I will have that drink.  I'm glad you enjoyed the pics, must admit it was a little strange seeing a Sea Fury with the 4-blade prop instead of the usual 5-blade.  The other two that were there had the 5, but I was unable to get good pics of them.  Cheers everyone! Good score on the Sea Fury, Darren!  I really want one of those in 1/48, especially after getting to spend some time around a couple of them at AirVenture 2007 this year.

I can't remember if I posted all of these here earlier, but here are a few reference pics I took there:

Darren-

thanks mate.Thumbs Up [tup] Sorry to hear that the FRS.1 did not turn up-I was looking forward to seeing another one on here!

Great score on then Sea Fury though, I read Brett Green's write up on it and it sounds like a great little kit. I will enjoy seeing you build it. If you come up with any decent reference pics along the way........please post them here!Wink [;)]

Daz the paint job and weathering on the 47 looks spot on to my eyes, nice job.

Progress Update:: Well I finally have something positive to report about a build progress.  I was planning on doing a Sea Harrier FRS.1 for this build but have all but given up hope of ever seeing the kit that I ordered from Lucky Model, oh well stuff happens.  Anyway I was in the LHS a couple of days ago and saw the 1/72 Trumpeter Sea Fury FB.11 and grabbed it Propeller [8-]Party [party]

I have made a start painting the base colors of the cockpit and wheel wells and so far things are looking good, so it might be a reasonably quick build.

Cheers

Good job with the wash Darren.  Gives it a bit more realism.

That's much better in my eyes!  Showcases the detail without looking like someone painted deep black lines all over the airframe.  The slight uneveness of the wash makes it look more realistic to me.  I strive for that on my builds.  Way to go! Thumbs Up [tup]

Awlright mate-keep yer hair on! Big Smile [:D]

OK, here's some pics. I decided to go for a light wash on the sky and a dark wash on the eds grey. It not perfect, but I'm pleased with it. Some of the decals don't look too clever, but I'm hoping that a satin coat will calm things down a bit. I tried to take pics to show the details.....this is the best I could do!Clown [:o)]

I also attached the rockets, started painting the canopy and started work on a display base. Its been a busy day!

Lookin good Darren!  I would have to agree with both you and Rick.  A light wash in the panels to set them off a tad, but otherwise clean.

Looks great Darren, but I'd at least do a panel line wash to give it a little more eye pop.

Quick update-

I managed to get my Mk.47 all glossed up after adding the undercarridge and flaps. I'll leave it to dry overnight and have a think about the weathering. I am quite temped to lleave this on as it is as these birds were kept very clean. If I do add a wash, it will have to be very light on the sky area's of the airframe so not to over-do it. Here's a peek.....

It's one of my modeling regrets that I didn't snap up that Italeri boxing when it was first issued as it has all the ordnance and related options that were previously supplied in separate boxings.  These options include four bombs, a torpedo, two depth charges, a radar pod, and radar arrays.  It also includes a very nice decal sheet with US, UK & NZ options.

If I happened to see one on the shelves of a LHS I would certainly pounce on it now.

Cheers

Thanks for your kind words lads.Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup] There is definately something about the "look" of a Mk.47. I have managed to get all the markings cleaned up and  I have also  added the undercarridge.  Some pics will follow later.

Nicholas,

I do not know for sure, but I think the Italieri  re-boxing of the AM kit had the FAA mods in the box, so that a FAA variant may be built. (I plan to get my hands on one when I see one. )

Darren-nice work.  Very impressive.

Nicholas-If I remember correctly, the Accurate Miniatures (and reboxed by Italeria?) kit contains the buldged fuselage windows.  Not sure of any other changes required.

hi, sorry for "intruding" on your GB.

The Fleet Air Arm theme appeals but I have just begun the Jagdgeschwader GB and have my hands pretty full. However, I would love to do a TBF /TBM Avenger in FAA livery (for this GB if i finish my Me262 in time). My problem is that i know they had specific FAA / RAF modifications like bulged fuselage windows etc but have been unable to find anyone who makes an upgrade or correction set in 1/48. I thought here would be the best place to ask - so, can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Nicholas

Kind regards, Nicholas

I just might do that, buddy! Big Smile [:D] It's been ages since I built or even thought about purchasing an Airfix kit, but based on what I've seen & heard so far, I think they're worth another look.
