Here comes the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley, half baked on the half shell, and damn yer eyes. FROG in 1/72.

Pics followed by explannies because yer nibs the Cap'n needs a pic to "speak to"

Extra Dark Sea Grey over Dark Slate Grey, over white. All Humbrol.

Interior RAF green exceppie the turrets which'll be black.Had to drill out all those little windows, plus the radiator intakes. Added the pitots on the tails, plus the landing lite recess and eventual lens.

Nammie is in place, drop that charge!

Bits and parts mostly gray.

ASV Mark II radar PE from Paragon. The FROG cast bits looked good, but they're about 1/120!!

Scratched up the two turrets. Fraser Nash in the rear and I made another one (not shown) for a future build.

The old ale can doors, with interior bracing. Nice.

Time to go pet "Dragon":

Darren - I always look forward to seeing your completed projects.  I really am envious of your builds due to the passion you put in each one to make them show stoppers . Bow [bow]

Frank - What a fantastic looking crosair. I really like the paintwork and the colors. Tamiya Acrylics ?  I think a spiral on the prop hub would really add to it. Wink [;)]

Bondo - You have been building some really nice models here lately and in a Very Quick Manner. You need to share your secrets....  Question - What type of thinner are you using with your Humbrol paints ?  I sprayed some humbrol a few weeks back thinned with MM Universal Enamel Thinner # 8824 . The paint sprayed very nice and smooth but took almost 2 1/2 days to dry enough for handling.. Also where do you find all those nice resin bits / guns you use ? LHS or Mail order Confused [%-)]

Bill, you must have kissed that frog just right because it's starting to look like a, er, Princess!  And those pitot things on the tail are probably balance weights for the rudders to raise the flutter speed.

That makes sense. They are a rod with a big blob on the end. One was intact but too short, one was short shot. I'm looking forward to installing the ASV arrays- the big slab sides on the Whit are a good platform for side looking arrays.

The secret is that Miss Bondo and Ms. Bondo are both in college degree programs and dissappear every night after dinner into books and homework. Clean up the dishes, clear the table and get to work.

I have settled on Lacquer thinner for Humbrol. It dries fast, if flat. Mineral spirits stay gloss, but like you say take a while to dry. Humbrol doesn't need much thinner, either. I'm just a huge fan of their British greens- they have that look just right.

Gun barrels from Quickboost, per a tip from Aaron, canopies from Falcon and the Mk2 radar from Paragon. Thats a funny one- the Frog ones looked better because they're round, but they're also way too small.

One minor miracle is that the decals are really good still. That Shackleton looks more promising by the minute.

An extra rum ration for the Master Chief to be sure!  Sounding the alert that this Gb had slipped to page 2.  Gents, THIS WILL NOT DO!!!

It's been quite a while since the last roll call, so I think it proper to do a head count.  I understand that life and work schedules may prohibit most from attending roll call at the same time, but hopefully everyone here will be able to check in at some point in the next 24 hours.

Excellent!  Glad to see so many still aboard.  I recieved a signal two days ago from the CAG that he would be away the end of this week and the weekend to attend the UK Nats.  With him, that makes seven!

Cap'n bondo, as you are the man currently building would you mind terribly breaking out a keg for a pre-weekend kickoff party?  As the CAG is ashore, I don't think he would mind.  I could murder a cup of rum! Pirate [oX)]

Ordinary Seaman -Neu- reporting in.

Its been awhile, I know I missed some big events; Cag's and Franks' birthday, some milestone posts and some great builds... like the XO's fantastic looking Whitney. So its time I come back. I've been sailing in some other group builds but I think its time I get my sea legs back. I'll probably clear out my other GBs by next year and concentrate on a this GB and one or two others.

Right now, I've decided to build Hampton Gray's FAA F4U corsair in 1/72. This isn't going to be a normal model; if its done right I'm mounting it and giving it as a christmas gift to close friend for her cubicle at work. So if I need to do this right, what does an enterprising sailor do? Practice. I had an old Hasegawa Corsair that was made by me like 8 years ago. I decided to strip it down, repaint it, try some different things and bring it back into line. I tried giving it a sun faded look which is what you see here...

And this is it drying after its gloss coat.

Tonight I cracked open a tamiya 1/72 Corsair kit and looked it over. I used its decals for the older Hasegawa build and bought some aftermarket ones for Hammy's plane. So yeah... Ordinary Seaman -neu-, permission to come aboard... once again.

Well done Cap'n, love seeing such a fine example of a CC bird in the morning.  Smells like... oh never mind. Sigh [sigh]

Very well done, I can imagine that masking and painting such high-contrasting colors can be tricky as any paint bleed will show.  Well done Sir. Approve [^]

Richie- LOL, It pays to be slow, doesn't it? Propeller [8-]  Wouldn't want to rush into anything.

Gentlemen,

Tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and Commonwealth, we give thanks to those who have served our country in all conflicts. We remember the fallen and give thanks to those who have served and who still in the service of our country.

To show our support and respect we wear the British legion poppy. Each one bought raises money for veterans in need. This Sunday our nation will be led by Her Majesty the Queen in London at the Cenotaph and British Forces around the world will also stand shoulder to shoulder in a minute's silence for the fallen.

"When you go home Tell them of us and say: For your tomorrow We gave our today... "

Please take a moment to remember them.

Thank you.
