Thanks Darren!  I just bought a set of decals for the "Grey Nurse" last week myself, one of my favorites too.

Looks like this reply is post #1000 here, WOOHOO!!! Make a Toast [#toast] Party [party] Pirate [oX)]

Many thanks to everyone who commented on my previous builds, coming from this group they certainly mean a lot.  Leon I'll let you in on a little secret, the shark mouth spitfire is one of my favorites as well

Frank the Zero looks excellent, nice job Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].  It may have been a pain but your results are worth the effort IMHO.  Oh and good luck with your move.

Bob, Thanks for the info on the mustangs. I have some Accurate Miniature kits, but have yet to get around to building them. I should force myself to do one next as I really would like to have an Avenger of Dauntless, but I keep choosing other ones...

Frank,  Great looking room. I'll be showing those pictures to my wife..."See you can have a good hobby room in the house and it wont turn into a big painted mess..." Cool [8D]

Dave, Geez that looks like a huge pain in the you know what, but man the end result is really nice. Hopefully in the end all the hard work made it give an even larger feeling of accomplishment. Having to do all of that work would have made it a kit that I either didn't finish or would take years to finish. Again, really nice job on it.

Leon, the Sunderland, like most airfix kits suffers from many sink holes, flash and requires tubes and tubes of filler material.  The two fuselage halves didn't quite match up requiring some creative sanding on the bottom.  The worst part was the sink holes on all the port hole windows.

a couple of pics.

Filler

a before and after of the windows, I had to file them down to get the sink hole out. A real pain when there are 30+ of them.

Roy, I built mine pretty much from scratch, using a blower motor/squirrel cage fan and fittings I purchased from Grainger, and particle board, a switchbox, filters, ducting, and adaptors I purchased from our local hardware store. It is vented out through a plexiglass window that has a 4" hole for the ducting and was cut to the same dimensions as the screen I removed from the window frame where it is installed. I built it with the intention of making it an integral part of my bench area.

Roy-

Mine is a Paasche spray booth, that I bought new last year from a guy on Ebay for about $200 bucks.  It comes with filters, and a steel reducer to channel the exhaust down to a standard 4" dryer vert hose.  It is made of galvanized steel, and seems to work well.  Can't remember what the cfm output was, maybe around 700cfm?  Don't quote me on that, though.  The outside dimensions are about 22 1/4" wide, 18 1/4" high, and with the fan and hose about 27" deep.  Hope that helps!

Frank & Mike, on the subject of spray booths, did you guys make yours or buy it?  As of now I have nothing.  When I get around to setting up my hobby room I will ask for and take any suggestions you guys can offer.

OK, here are a couple of pics of my work area.  It is going to be packed up in a week or two, so my new one (which will be bigger!) will prolly look different.  As you can see, I have already started packing my reference materials.  I took a close up of the bench and spray booth for ya Roy, hope it helps!

Leon-thanks.  The Mustangs are the Accurate Minatures P-51A & F6A.  Lots of great detail, but some minor fit issues.  Still a great kit though.

Thanks Bob and Leon!

Bob- Mine is the Tamiya 1/48 A6M2, and masking that canopy was really a bear!  I'm glad it is over.  Next time, when I build the Hasegawa version, I have some vinyl masks to help out. Wink [;)]

Leon- The main problem I had was a faulty clear coat, after putting on all of the decals.  It was almost done, when disaster struck!  Ended up having to strip the whole kit and start over.  I posted details on my thread over in "aircraft" if you would like to see pics.

Mike- Congrats on 1000 posts! Make a Toast [#toast] Party [party] That calls for a lil' celebration!

Trying to catch up from a page ago...(what a fast moving thread this is Smile [:)] )

Roy, I would also like to see people's work areas. Will try to get a picture of mine sometime - nothing special, just a desk in the garage. Like many other's in this GB, I'm not sure how long I will get to keep it; we are trying to sell our house and I'm not sure what I might have in the future for a work area...

Previous builds...

Darson, I really like all of your posted builds, but the spitfire is one that really jumps out at me. Really nice build and I especially like it in the aussie markings.

Bob, Really like the wildcat and mustang. Which kit is the mustang?

Dave, Also all nice, but I agree that the Sunderland is extra nice. What were the downsides of that kit?

Again, nice builds by all. It is nice to see great work shared here...

Frank, Great looking Zero! Looks really nice. What were the "pain" parts of it? If it did give you trouble it looks really nice in the end.

There is a reason why you don't see very may Sunderlands.  That Airfix kit is the only game in town and it is a real Taped Shut [XX]Blindfold [X-)]Banged Head [banghead]

Dave- that's some very impressive work!  I really like the Sunderland-don't see that one very often- and the Stuka-great weathering!

I finally managed to finish my Zero, glad to have that one off of my bench.  It was a real pain in the Censored [censored].  Sorry about the quality of the pics, I had to tear down my photo set-up since I am moving soon.  Thanks again Mike for the replacement decals, they saved my Censored [censored]!

Yes, thanks all for the positive comments.  I am still in awe of the work being posted by all you other guys.

I hope all you northerners enjoy your holiday.  Ours is next weekend-however, mine is already committed to an 8-hour drive (each way) to visit my wife's sister & family.  At least there is a Hobby Lobby in that town.....and they are good in-laws and fun to be around....cheers!

Holy cow! Shock [:O] Darren, Bob, Dave.....that is some really impressive stuff! Just when I think this thread can't get any better, along comes more masterpieces on display. Those are some amazing models, guys! Keep 'em coming! Thumbs Up [tup]

Andy, glad I could help you out with your brush questions. Would have been back here a lot sooner, but the power went out in our entire area. We were in the dark from about 3:30 Wed. afternoon to about 9:00pm yesterday (PST).

Oh, and on that D.VII? Construction was a breeze (Eduard makes some great kits), but those decals....yikes! They went on easy (the lozenge and all the rib tapes), but there's so dang many of 'em! Censored [censored] Big Smile [:D]
