Fleet Air Arm Group Build

I recon you are onto a winner there Frank with or without dropped elevators. If you decide to drop them, take your time with the cutting. I used a panel line scriber on the underside and just kept on going across the plastic until it eventually cut through. Its more time consuming this way but I got better results as opposed to using the razor saw.

Sounds like a good read Dave, I recently read "They gave me a Seafire" by Commder R.M. Crosley. Its a great account of life in the FAA during WWII and it was a very enjoyable read.

Also, "Sea Harrier over the Falklands" is a cracking read. Its Commander "Sharky" Ward's personal account of his experience of commanding NAS 801 during the Falklands war. I have to say its a real eye-opener and this chap does not pull any punches either! He has a distinct contempt for the RAF,(FAA and RAF have always been great rivals.) yet I still found myself admiring him as both a fighter pilot and a leader. Highly recommended.

I have also had another great score.........I was in my LHS yesterday and in the "bargain bucket" was a 1/48 Airfix RN Buccaneer. I asked the chap in charge if I could take a look inside the box and he told me I was quite welcome to.

Unfortunately, all the decals were stained and torn. Not being certain if I could purchase the same markings on an AM decal sheet I decided to put the kit back on the shelf.  The owner said "hang on a minute , I have another one somewhere."

He came back with a brand new kit straight off the delivery truck and said he would sell it to me for the same low price if I still wanted it. I took a quick peek inside the box and sure enough, everything looked perfect. I snapped it up straight away. When I went to pay he then gave me another 10% off to make up for any inconvenience! What a bloody decent bloke.

The kit has a terrible reputation, but its the only game in town if one wants a 1/48 Buccaneer, luckily I know plenty of chaps who have built this kit so I will seeking lots of advice when I get around to building it.

I am still debating on the Seafire elevators, I know they will look great if I drop 'em and don't booger them up.

I worked on the vacuform canopy today, and it's coming along.  Boy, those things are different to work with!   I managed to put a couple of lil' scratches in it, but I know I can sand them out.

dropping those elevators should be well easy compared to working with a vac-form canopy! I have never dared to work with one yet. I have one as part of my PRXIX kit, but I have shelved that project while I get to grips with the B-25.

I finally scored my Sea Fury on Ebay the other day, and may try to get it done for this GB if time allows!  As for the Seafire, I finshed trimming the canopy and gave it a dip in Future.  I think I am going to leave the elevators as they are, cutting them free has me sweating a little.

Good score on the Seafury!  Are you going to get the cutting edge goodies for it?

Glad to hear that you have got the canopy sorted, I have started test fitting my B-25 canopy frames, I'm glad that I did-they need a little "help" to fit properly. I'm back at work now, so progress will be very slow on this build as I will not have much spare time for a while. 

I recon that once all the fitting and sanding is out of the way, I'll be able to move things up a gear.

Glad to hear that your B-25 project is progressing well, if not slower than you might like.  I Futured my rear canopy, and it looks pretty good.  Though, I must add, your Future job on the front canopy is MUCH better than mine.  In fact, mine looks pants compared to yours!

As for the Sea Fury, I am not sure where to get those Cutting Edge parts, nor what is available for it.  Think I may look at the kit when it arrives and see what I need for it. 

I only bought the external set as the internal set for the Seafury is a waste of money due to it being all black. The exterior set is well worth it I think. Here is a link to a review on the set by Hyperscale:

The parts are a great improvement on the Hobbycraft Seafury.

Well, I got to spend the entire day in the shop, and managed the get some paint on my Seafire.  I sprayed the Sky on the bottom, and worked on the L/G a little.  Not a lot done, but at least it's progress!

Over 30,000 views- wonder if that's some kind of record!

I've heard a rumour that  Eduard are going to release a new 1/48 tooling of the Hellcat. One of the boxes will be a FAA version.

It's not a rumour.  Eduard announced it several months ago.  Supposed to be out before years end.  Not sure why we need one as the Hasegawa kit with some AM help is really quite good.

Just finished catching up with the group builds my hat off to all the great work to date.  I will be moving into a rental house for the next 6 months.  Which I hope means that I will be able to work on my Corsair a bit.  I look forward to completing the resin pit mike gave me

The family will be here on the 12th of Oct.  Life is great!!!!!!!!!  I do look forward to chatting with you guys more often.

The B-25 is still on the bench, I still need to do some more sanding on the wings. I've not spent much time in the workshop lately as work is very busy these days. I have some time off in 3 weeks, hopefully I can put some time in on it then.

As for a 1/24 scale GB-it depends when its going to start. I have a very nice 1/24 Spitfire Mk.Vb in the stash, but I don't know when I'll get round to building it. If its well into next year, I might be up for it.

Hey guys, I got back from holidays at the beach last week but have been plunged straight back into 14 hour days at work, ahh it's so good to be back.  If I am lucky things may start to ease up a tad so that I can get back on-line and get back to some modeling.

I have to spend a little time going back over the last million pages to see what I have missed but in the meantime I noticed this preview for Hobbycraft's upcoming 1/32 Sea Fury on HyperScale yesterday.  Hopefully the kit turns out as nicely as the box art.
