Thanks, Bro! It sure is good to be back!
I'm waiting for the paint on the aircrew to cure, so i'd like to interject a thought if i may. A musing, really;
As i really start the work on this particular Dauntless kit, i have noticed some particular flaws- mostly in the injection mouldings. Specifically a gaping hole in the gunners chest (i'm sure y'all had similiar gigs in the past). For me, the most difficult to paint is the aircrew, but i digress.
Could i have chosen a different subject instead? Sure, i suppose so. Could i have gotten a better quality Dauntless kit from Tamiya or Hasegawa? Of Course! We all have our reasons for modelling, and those differences are about as diverse as the members in the forum. Some do it for a paycheck. Some enjoy replicating a subject down to perfect accuracy. Some do it to get away from reality while others use modelling as a way to bond with their children. All good reasons, of course. I doubt if there are any bad reasons. Why do i do it? I know that question has been asked in another thread, but i do it to remind myself of my youth, and to keep in touch with who i am. For those precious moments i am working on a kit, i feel like i am 7 years old again with that first kit in my hands. While the small details are always cool and add to the wow factor, i myself usually don't sweat the details. I'm always looking to improve my skills, of course. But to me, it makes no difference if i put a stripe on a tail that's suppose to have a star (for example). As long as i know that I made it and it's looks good, then that's the most important thing to me. The first time i built this same kit, my Father taught me that you should always care and take pride in your work, and it will always yield you much rewards. Modelling has always been the physical interpretation of that. I may not have the skills and experience as many here do (yet), but i do it for those lessons learned along the way, and the pride of finally setting that completed kit on the shelf.
Sorry about that, guys. Seems i am a bit sentimental today with this kit. But i figure i would just share that all with ya! Hope y'all are stayin safe this weekend!
