jthurston - Welcome! I'm interested in which Dragon Tiger I you're going to build. I've built some Tamiya's (old & new) and am currently building an Academy Tiger I. I've never built a Dragon Tiger tho'.

David - All 'ya need is more Pershings...Super Pershings, ya that's the ticket.

Circuitrider- I think the interior of your M-8 is superb . I can almost smell the dirt, sweat, grease, and fuel. Sorry to hear about your other troubles, although I did get a chuckle over the portion. I think I'll convince the wife to go to Wal-Mart this weekend. I can see a photo booth in my not too distant future.

Thanks for the compliment!  I got the axel pinned back together with little problem...no profanity thought or murmured. 

The photobooth is really fun.  One word of advice...the lights are electric, so you'll probably need an extension cord to plug them both in and have enough cord left to position them properly.  Also, you can place a small pedestal (I used a box of sugar) under the back drop to raise your subject up a little.  Works like a charm!

EDIT: Postman, it's Dragon's Tiger I Late (3 in 1), kit # 6253. You mentioned Tamiya Tigers - I remember that old monster, with the half-accurate road wheels and the rubber-hose Feifel lines. Man, supplying that thing with accurate AM parts...I bet I spent 3 months and $300 gathering enough replacement AM stuff to make it look like a Tiger. It was a fun build, though.

I do also have the newer Tamiya Tiger I, but I haven't looked at it yet.

Teal and chartreuse (sorry, couldn't resist)

Probably a brown undercoat, followed by a base of Dark Yellow, lightened with Buff. Then probably small camo patches of Red Brown and Field Gray (which of course is actually green). All Tamiya acrylics.

Actually right now I'm thinking I might just go straight Dark Yellow. Might be more fun to highlight the differences in shading and texture without all the extra colors. Don't know yet.

I've just about completed the hull part of the Tank Workshop interior. I didn't take a lot of in-process pics of the interior, as it's fairly straightforward anyway. Although the Tank Workshop kit was intended for a Tamiya Tiger I, I didn't have any issues fitting it into my Dragon kit, except on the forward cross-member, which had to be cut down a little bit, and the rear bulkhead between the fighting compartment and the engine compartment, which also had to be cut down a little. There's a drop-in part that replicates the floor pan with the suspension arms running across it, but I left that part out because the Dragon kit actually has the suspension arms installed (not an option with the Tamiya kit). Now, this left the floor without the two rails that run long-wise through the length of the tank, but they were easily replaced with Evergreen strip.

I'll be sure to get some good pics tonight, before I get into the turret.

Thanks guys. It's the Tank Workshop interior, intended for the older Tamiya kit. It's not turning out as well as I'd hoped, but it's probably passable . Turret's next, then tie it all in together with wiring conduits, loose stuff and figures (the figs are in paint right now). I also want to lighten up some of the darker parts, because there shouldn't be so much black in there. So a good highlight with a gray/green of some kind might be in order.

I've got the Cavalier zimmerit and some tankers' heads on order, and I'm waiting for this weekend to tackle the Friuls. Sounds like a lot of AM, but it's really not that much- just the Tank Workshop interior, CAvalier zim, and Friuil tracks. You know, just the absolute necessities...

It looks great to me! I've never seen a real Tiger, or any AFV for that matter, with it's deck missing, which really shows the relationship of all of the areas in it in a way a drawing can't.

My Tamiya Tiger I had a big battery box in the middle of it.

Any in progress shots or more progress? I've finally gotten down to the point where I started to collect paints and such for the Pershing so should be able to get it started around mid-September! Finally!!!!!!!

Yep. It's in #6253, which is the older kit, but was recently re-released as kit # 6406. The re-release, #6406, doesn't have the alum barrel if I understand correctly. But they've apparently also re-released it in its original #6253 form, complete with all the AM-type stuff.

You get the plastic 2-piece barrel plus the alum one, 2 commanders cupolas, 3 loaders hatches, 2 sets of outer roadhweels, 2 sets of skirts (1 metal), 2 glacis plates, 2 sets of fender flaps (1 set metal). You also get metal cables (plus the plastic ones if you prefer to use them), your choice of plastic or metal exhaust shrouds...lots of stuff like that. Even the pioneer tools (shovels, axe, etc) come both with and without the molded-on clamps - plus you get the PE clamps, too. Man, I'm gonna need a bigger spares box.

The only thing I felt compelled to add after-market, for accuracy, is the Zim, for which I'm going with Cavalier. I also went with the Friul tracks, just because I have trouble with Dragon's snap-togethers, and the TW interior.

can't be Kursk, only Western Front. Are there any other markings in the kit?

Ok, I hadn't seen this thread before - guess I didn't look far enough back in the forum, eh?  On the shelf, pouting at me to be built (and which are just right for this GB), are a Tamiya Sdkfz 222, Sdkfz 232, and DML Waffen SS (Normandy 1944).  Sitting in the cabinet (and unusable for this GB) is a Tamiya Sdkfz 223 - it is built with basic paint, but no real detailing.  I have had a diorama in mind for it for ages, just haven't finished it off yet.  Since there's most of a year remaining on this GB, I'm going to shoot for either the 222 or the 232 and the infantry, probably rushing into positions in the hedgerows - or *maybe* in a village - to disrupt the Allied advance.

(Can't tell I like wheeled armor, can ya?)

ETA!  Ok, I'm going with the 222.  I think the 8-wheeled 232 really needs more figures than just 4 to create a good balance, and I wanna stick to what's on *my* shelf, not what's on the *store* shelf!  Now I gotta start the research so I get the markings approaching correct and the colors of vehicle and uniforms something close to reality.

If you check out the armor forum you'll see that there is indeed a Battle of Kursk GB going on right now until the end of October! Big group with lots of nice builds so far!

thanks for directing me to that build, the models are first rate. everybody seems really supportive and good natured there. i would love to join but it seems a little late. do you think they would let someone in this late? i ask only because you have been involved early on. thanks again
