I don't think you'd be disappointed , Mike! I've yet to see any of Trumpeter's releases in that scale, but I'd heard so many good things about these Dragon kits that I just had to try one (and wound up buying a second!) Big Smile [:D]

Well I built the T-34/85 mod 1944 and had a blast with that one. I have 2 more Dragon kits in the stash, a T-34/76 and a Bradley AFV. The Normandy version of the Sherman and Maus are the next in queue. Smile [:)]

I can highly recommend the Trumpeter JS-3M.

Trumpeter IS-3M turrent in progress.

Some tidy up needing to be done, plus another well thinned flat earth wash needs to be applied after the decals are on.

The IS-3 looks good mike.

I finally got some propellant for my airbrush, now I can finish the KV-1S. The T-72M1 looks like it will be fun to build, It's extremly detailed. I'm going to build an East German Machine.

Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic] I picked up Tamiya's 1/35 Panther A and Sdkfz. 251/1 Hanomag today at Hobby Lobby, 30% off too. They both have markings for Grossendeutcheland Division (I probably spelt that wrong lol) so I might do a Kursk Diorama....Big Smile [:D]

Well I've almost finished building the T-72's Hull and Turret, man the think has tiny peices, 150+ peices, and at least 50 are about as big around as a toothpick. The NSVT 12.7 mm MG has 5 peices, and they're all tiny. Anyone know what I could do to make some tankers for this thing, because I left the hatches open.

Mike, the IS-3 is coming along. Thumbs Up [tup]  That's a lot of grab bars on that thing.

Sturm, looking forward to seeing some pics.

I finished my spitfire today so I hope to get some major progress done on the SU-122 with what's left of the weekend.

Cheers Dave

IS-3M is pretty much all done now. Just a few little bits to add paintwise to improve the "look"

Rear chassis fuel drums were a nightmare to install and I am ashamed to say I lost my patience badly over this stage. Lucky my 13 year old daughter was at hand with a cuppa. My Lady Love is at work today, so she did not witness or hear my little diagreement with painted and moulded plastic

Once done and there is better light, I will take some pics. Using a flash washes out the model and makes the burnt umber wash far too stark against the green which in reality it is not.

One thing I can say about Trumpy decals is that they are superb.

cheers

Mike

Thanks for the link Robbioo, but I meant for my T-72. I dont know maybe they could work, they have the same kind of helmet as German on the boxart...

Let me clarify that, anyone know where I could get East German Tankers from 1988.

Sturm try this site http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com   It is a comprehensive review site for just about any figure set ever produced in 1/72 scale.  I took a quick look but couldn't find anything for modern German tankers

Well I have finished construction on the T-72, KV-1S, and KV-1C. I painted them black too (The T-72 looks awesome in black).

How do you paint vents to make them look realistic? Here is what I'm talking about.

If you airbrush your models then a black wash will restore the back within the vents. A final dry brush of the point highlight shade will restore the grilles if required. Alternatively, if you brush paint your 1:72 armour like I do, simply drybrush carefully the grilles to get the effect ony my T-34/85 illustrated. I often then run a black wash through anyway to "deepen" the black.

Sweet-looking build, Mike! Thumbs Up [tup] The base is a great touch. I always enjoy seeing these brutes displayed in their natural environment.

Tomorrow will make 7 work days out of the past 8 for me, so I've been able to accomplish little from a modeling standpoint, but I'm off Tuesday and hope to get some time in at the bench....it won't be much as it is also my wife's and my wedding anniversary and there's much to plan, but I should be able to get a few hours of modeling time in.

Thanks Mike, I used Model Masters Acrylic Russian Armour Green but I tried Saddlers technique of spraying a flat black base coat first and I must say that I was really happy with the results.  I also added some Tamiya flat base to the MM clear flat top coat this time to give it a more dull finish and that also worked out really well.

Very nice work, Dave! Thumbs Up [tup] I'm definitely going to try that technique of applying the flat black base under my top coats. What did you use for a wash?

Construction is done on mine and painting will commence this weekend. With 3 days off, hopefully I'll have something to show before I head back to work.

Good stuff!

I have been using a flat black undercoat for some time now, back when I dabbled in 1:35 in between aircraft builds. I use Tamiya lacquer sprays in a can to give subsequent acrylics a firm foundation. It works well and gives a great shadow effect.

I just picked up Vallejo equivalents (including Russian Green) as they are better than the Ceramcoat paint I have used on my builds so far. The shop selling Ceramcoat here has sold up, so supplies are now dodgy.

I do like your build. I have the long barrled PST Su-122. But the short barreled version you have done looks meaner.

Ae you going to base it?

cheers

Mike, thanks for your comments.  The wash was done with burnt sienna Artist water colours.  Enjoy your time off.  I'm finnishing off two weeks of vacation this weekend and it's been wonderful.

Other Mike, I've heard very good things about Vallejo paints but have yet to try them myself.  I do plan to base the Su 122 with a pair of T34/76's that I have along with some infantry figures.  That my be awhile down the road though.

I am sourcing figures now. A UK friend of mine is coming out in September with some Preiser figures. I also need to get some Soviet ones as well.

Hey, I ran in to some difficulty with my kit. Then I got wrapped up in preparing for the Nationals. Once they are over, I'll get back into this. I have several UM kits to build for this.

My apologies.

Building a Sturer Emil and an old 1:72 Monogram Tigercat at the moment, but have purchased another 5 PST kits to throw into the mix.

The Dragon T-34/76 is calling me though and getting more insistant!

Who makes a 1:72 M-10/18 Tank Destroyer????

cheers
