Starting to get ready with the interior parts. A few minor touch-ups and then I'm ready to start assembling. Painted the pilot in a Swedish summer suit with white cap and gloves. Took a try at woodgraining the floor too, but it don't show that much in the picture.

Cheers,

Hey Azgaron,

I am really liking what I am seeing especially the floor. How did you represent the wood grain in the floor?

You are off to a good start my friend..!!

Mike,

Your Stang is looking really good so far! Nice work!

About the wood graining, it's a tip I picked up from the WWI biplane building guys. Pretty simple I think. First you start out with a base color like tan. Then you use artist oil colors, for example burnt sienna and paint all over. Next you use an artist brush or any brush with bristles that's a bit harder and start making the wood pattern in the oil color. Whipe of excess color from the brush and continue until your satisfied with looks of it. When the oil color has dried, you can seal it with clear cote, or for wooden props, perhaps clear orange. You can try with other colors to get different tones of wood.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

Cheers,

Azgaron

Hi everyone I finally got some pics. Ikey your stangs looking nice thanks, but I have already finished mine.Big Smile [:D] It was a Monogram one with the markings for Urban Drew pilot of detroit miss. These Monogram kits go by really fast. Here it is I finished it all the way but the old decals shattered, so I ordered some new ones. 9.00 dollors for a decal sheet kinda expensive but thats alright.Tongue [:P]

Lookin' good, Mike, Andrew, Azgaron!!  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I think I'll have some decent weather soon so I can do some painting.  It's ready but I don't have an indoor setup, so am at Mother Nature's mercy!   I think I'm going to use rattle can MM buffing metalizer - it looks pretty good on some test pieces.

Keep up the good work!

Hey all,

I see alot beautiful work posted on this thread, and I'm lovin' it.

Progress has been pretty good for me.  This Accurate Minitures A-36 kit just falls together nicely.  The pit is complete, the fuselage has been closed up, seems have been sanded (very little filler needed), and panel lines have been rescribed.  The last couple of evenings have been very productive.  I hope my good luck holds out.

Hey all,

Much of last night was dedicated to cutting holes in the Apache's wings.  I was a little disappointed when I opened AccumMini's A-36 kit.  It has dive brakes, but they're molded into the wings.  I really wanted to pose my dive brakes open, because it is the "Special" thing about the A-36.  I bought eduard's detail set, because it had some PE dive brakes (most AccumMini's projects don't need PE).  However, that means I had to chop holes in my wings.  I've never done that before, and they don't look that great right now.  I'm going to clean them up a bit, but I worry that I've removed too much plastic.  If that is the case, I may give it solid wings, cover over the engine nacel gun ports and call it a P-51A.  Here's pics:

Chris, good luck with the build fix, look forward to the rest! I also learn something from every build but I am still in the "no brush strokes, no seams, no blobs of glue" stage ;)cheers

Mustang lovers-

Picked up the Summer 2008 edition of Flight Journal at a local magazine rack today.  It's total P-51 Mustang with lots of neat pics and stories.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi guys,

Would love to come aboard, I've been an absolute Mustangaholic for nearly 20 years (have the engineering and pilot's manuals on my bookshelf!) and heaps of Stangs in my stash. Something by Tamegawa (-D) or possibly an ICM -C.

Over,

Andrew,

I have a Tamiya 1:48 P-51B that is about 40% complete. I started it sometime in Febuary but with moving and all it had to go back into the box for awhile. My Eduard canopy mask came in the mail today so now seems as good a time as any to get back to it. Mind if I get in on this one?

Regards,

Jeff

I used a light grey color as primer. I'll check for flaws as soon as it has dried!

Once they're fixed, I'll mask and glue the canopy, before I start to paint.

Hi Raptordriver,

I'm thinking probably Tamiya 1:48 P-51D; markings -- mmmm, maybe Petie 2nd, though if I can find the markings I've always wanted to do somewthing from the 343rd. I'd better check my Superscale stash.
