Hi Raptordriver,

My decals have arrived, Aeromaster 48-739, 55th FG at War. I'll be doing Miss Velma, of the 343rd FS. I've always thought these were some of the most gorgeous markings any Mustang ever wore.

Now all I need is the Tamiya -D to arrive and I'm in business. This is an appreciably long build, so I'm not going to rule out an extra entry -- I have Tamiya's 1:72 of Big Beautiful Doll on its way also.

Cheers,

TB379

Cockpit is almost done . If I can figure out how to work the camera, I will send pictures.

My subject will be Miss Detroit on the tamiya 1/72 P51.

The hasagawa P51 needs to be painted in Nooky Booky IV ,this was started last

june ,and I don't know if I should include it in the GB

I think you'll find that Accuminnies makes some very nice kits.  The parts are crisply molded and relatively free of flash.  The fit is good, although it's not quite as good as Tamiya or Hasegawa.  I did have some fit problems with my canopy, but I filled gaps with white glue.  They have a Pre-order release of an XP-51 on greatmodels.  I may have to build that someday.

Raptor, it's your group build so it's your call, but my My 2 cents [2c] is this doesn't count as participation in the GB.  Nice model, cool what-if scheme, but didn't sign up and no progress pics.

This is prolly a common question, but what do they call the black and white stripes on P-51's and what are their purpose?

I'm new to finescale. You can count it or not, i'm just here to have fun. I'm not one to take progress pics of any of my models, seems like it just drags on and on that way. Plus I think people often bump their own threads to much by doing one small thing on a model and then posting progress ad nasium. Everyone just wants to see the finished plane lol.

I'm guessing we don't "win" anything in these group builds? and that it just for show, correct?

Generally from what I've seen so far some GB's allow the model to be a certain percentage complete to quailfy, some you can't have started at all.  Depends on the guy running it I guess.  I've seen some with a raffle at the end but again, depends on the person running it.  I'm like you, not fond of progress pics, but if I join a GB I try to get a few in.  You never know, something you show may help the next guy.

I think anything I do regardinig progress pics should be classified under "Pitfalls to be avoided" rather then "do what I do" lol Tongue [:P]

In progress pics not only help others with their builds, but can help YOU with yours! I don't know how many times I've had someone spot something I missed...always helps to have an "objective eye" take a look at your stuff. Blindfold [X-)]

Also, the "G" in "GB" stands for "Group". Wink [;)] If you're going to keep your build entirely to yourself w/out participating in the discussion about the GB topic, then it's really no different than just building something and posting it in the appropriate forum. Just my My 2 cents [2c], of course. Big Smile [:D]

Bingo. Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid]  Dupes nailed it.

To answer your other question, I believe you're referring to the invasion stripes seen on many P-51's?

Yah i'm just not very chatty, between blacksmithing at work and trying to have a life I can only hit up here and there on this board in little bits. I also kinda dislike going through 30 pages to see the pictures of three different aircraft, although I did like the trick that someone did when they were at least kind enough to show what page each persons finished model was on.

Its alright guys, Wink [;)] I wouldnt have allowed it if it had been finished 3 weeks ago or something like that. Yes he should of signed up but I don't think there's very many pirate P-51's out there motorized. I had to put it on the roster since he just got it done. Big Smile [:D]

So what exactly was the point on putting invasion stripes on P-51's, P-38's and other allied aircraft? Other then ruining the camoflauge what purpose did this signify? Was it just a way to give solidarity to all the allied forces? Did other countries use the invasion stripes? Was it supposed to instill fear? Why did they choose black and white as colors and what is the significance of it?

Great work on that Luftwaffe Mustang.  Captured aircraft really make for some interesting paint schemes.  I was little thrown off by the yellow belly, but I guess that would be a good indicator for German pilots and AAA gunners.  It looks cool.

Don't worry too much about being ahead of schedule.  Even in a GB, your pace is completely up to you.  You just need to TRY to have the project complete before the complete date.  Am I wrong fellas?

Chris

Nope.  There's no such thing as "ahead of schedule" in a GB.  You're either on schedule or behind.  Big Smile [:D]

From what I've been reading, the yellow belly aircraft were used for flight testing and training.  They were taken to the various units so the German pilots could fly them to learn their weaknesses.  What's funny is some of them were lost to their own AA fire.  They also had several B-17's and 4 B-24's, I'll do one of those later.
