Cold War GB?

cdclukey - Thanks, much appreciated! I am still poking myself with a sharp sprue and trying to recover my voice... :)  Miracles DO happen! I will play Lotto Powerball using the numbers from the favorite NY Giant jerseys! LOL

I will research some more, may want to make my builds "Cuban Missile Crisis" oriented, starting with the Carles Abrams, we will see! Look forward to this.. Cheers!

Hi Guys, Sorry I havn't been on for a couple of days.

I think I'm going to push the start date up to feb.15 2008 and ending on feb.15 2009 and I'm going to make an official thread for this GB sometime tonight.

Dupes- The red square badge was just an idea but I don't think I'm going to use it.

Jmart- I must sincerely congratulate your team (even though I'm a huge Pats fan) for they did what no other team this season could and they deserve a huge amount of credit.

Have not even bought the kit yet.  But I have no problem with the both of us building one.  Will be using the dragon premium kit, though.

Thanks for the consideration.  I plan on giving it to my father as a present.  He won't be able to stop talking about it.

Thanks JMart, I'll share those pics with you even though your boys polished off my Packers a couple of Sundays ago.

I won't be doing any aftermarket stuff PE stuff, but I might have to use AM decals...the ones in the kit are in sort of poor shape.

gary - I know what you mean...  I am starting with a US destroyer involved in the Cuban missile crisis blockade, and was thinking of using that as the theme... aircraft, maybe the downed U2, or the a/c who overflew the missile sites and took the pics? Maybe research what soviet armor was present in Cuba at the time, ready to repell the invaders? I know MUCH less about this time than ww2 and other 'war years". For sure I am looking forward to the builds in here! Cheers, James

looking back at a GB like this, the selection is almost endless! There's even a lot of prop planes to choose from as well as jets. Armor would go back from the M-1 tank to the M-41 (I think the M-46 was gone by 1955). One could even drag out the battleship New Jersey and a couple heavy cruisers (Boston comes to mind right off the bat). Plus all sorts of PBR's and small craft. Wonder if any of the NG outfits were using WWII M-4 tanks as late as 1955? How about some of the British armor? or even Isreallie armor? I know an M-8 or an M-3 half track would work in that time frame.

My mind is turning in an utter state of mass confusion now!

I'm not much of a ship guy, but I have to say: Neat subject! I'm actually looking forward to seeing this.

Chris, thanks for putting this together. Yes, time frame is good, gives a chance to us serial GB joiners to clear some builds, also allows people to build more than one type of kit.

In the meantime, you can add me with the 1:700 Dragon USS Charles F Adams DDG-2, a little destroyer who took part in the Cuba blockade during the missile crisis... Cheers! James

Yeah, I figure eBay is the best way to get a "D" at this point. When I do get one, I'd like to do an early BMF scheme. I've never rescrived a kit before, but the F-105D might be a nice candidate to try...although there are many panel lines.

I'd be interested to see what scheme you're doing.

 I also got the early paint job decals from squadron but cant find them.

Thanks John for resizing the badge, I'm still having trouble with it, If somebody wouldn't mind resizing the rest of them to roughly the same size as the smaller A/C badge that would be great! Also I'm going to make a participant list along with an "Official" thread for this GB sometime next week.

Chris, put me down for a Hasegawa 1/72 P2V-7 Neptune anti-submarine aircraft.  I was going to build that kit anyway for my step-father, who served in Vietnam in a unit that was phasing those birds out when he arrived on the scene.  I already did the P3-B that replaced the Neptunes in his unit, complete with self-made decals of his squadron insignia.  Going to do the same thing with the Neptune.  But I might as well build it for you guys and gals first!

Here's my vote for the badge, resized twice.  Yeah, I'm a bit airplanecentric..
