Nope, I didn't know such a thing existed. I'll have to try it out on my next build. Thanx for the suggestion JMart!

Yessir! Those are the resin 100mm turrets from L'Arsenal; unfortunately, when I tried to free the resin gun barrels from their resin support, I broke both barrels in three different parts! And of course, all Heller's barrels have a large hole, so I have to fill that up before being able to continue. See what I mean when I say I have a rough time with L'Arsenal's fret?

On a more positive note, I finally found some pictures showing the model of the Musee de la Marine of Paris, and that will help me a lot!

Hello guys,

Since everyone is doing such a great work and posting pictures, I thought it was time to post a quick update on my own builds. Besides, it also puts this topic on top of the list Pirate [oX)]

USS Dallas is almost finished. As you can see, the kit doesn't have much parts and is really easy to build.

However, I had a lot of problems with the decals, which kept shining no matter what method I used. Eventually, I had to repaint all the details around the decals in order to suppress the shining, and then had apply another layer of varnish to obtain an even effect on the entire hull.

I still have to apply another layer of matt varnish on the upper deck, and add the props and the scopes, but otherwise the model is nearly completed.

Here you will see a few pictures showing progress on the Tourville-class destroyer. Nothing is completed yet on this kit, and there's still much to be done.

I'm using L'Arsenal's special PE set for this kit; though I admit that this fret adds a lot of usefull details to the kit, I was deeply disapointed by L'Arsenal's instructions, which I found to be as messy as Heller's! The instructions are not only extremely complicated to read (they're written in a kind of "abstract way", so I frequently have to look at completed models to figure out where to glue or how to bend a particular PE piece), but also contain some inaccuracies that need to be corrected - such as the location of the extra armor belt, which is not, as suggested by L'Arsenal, located directly below the main deck... (note: I haven't glued the armor belt yet on my kit)

I also use GM's excellent doors and hatches PE fret, which I highly recommend, and is superior, IMHO, to its competitors. The colors come from White Ensign Models (French navy gray and navy deck gray, US navy anti-fouling red).

Hope to post more pictures soon!

Sweet job on the Neptune Aggieman! I may not know that much about planes but I can tell a good model when I see one.

The Neptune is done.  This was an anti-submarine aircraft that came too late to make it into WWII and was used in the years to come by Navy and even Army units.  My step-dad went to Vietnam in '67 but by that time the P2s had been phased out of his unit, VP-46.  There was a neighboring Army air base where occasionally my step-dad had the opportunity to go over there and do some maintenance work on their P2s since they apparently didn't have anyone who could work on those systems.  At least that's the way the story came across to me.

Any way, the kit is an old Hasegawa mold with raised panel lines and some areas of poor fit.  But with a lot of effort it builds into a good looking Neptune.

Hey Townsy - good to have you back! Hopefully you got a bit of building done at "the cottage"? Wink [;)]

I accidentally bought an F-105 Thunderchief yesterday, along with a resin 'pit...I may have to accidentally build it for this GB while I'm at it. Whistling [:-^]

Hey Guys!

Got back from the cottage earlier today (A couple days later than I had originally thought, but oh well.) and I'm amazed at the amount of progress that's gone on!

Mucker: Great work on your F-84! I don't know much 'bout wingy thingies but that sure looks pretty darn good in my book!

Moose: Really nice job on your Adams, looks awesome and I'm sure your Dad will love it.

Tbloyer: Yep, sounds good to me. I'll put you on the list, but what's the manufacturer?

Anthony2779: That is one sweet T-72 you've got there! Awesome work, I just need to get back to work on mine as I've sorta lost a bit of steam doing other things.

Aggieman: That's nice masking work on your Neptune, looks great.

Hellcat Man: Your Huey looks like it's coming along great! and to get your GB badge all you have to do is go to the first page of the GB and save the badge to your computer, and then upload it to your Photobucket, Then proceed to copy the image URL and paste it into your sig.

Once again, excellent work going on here guys, I'm absoloutely loving it, keep it up!

JMart:

I used Alclad II Polished Aluminum as the main color. This has become my favorite of the Alclad lineup.

Lewbud the control panels in my chopper are all photo-etch. This is actually my first real model I decided to use photo-etch on. Also the rocket pods are gonna be a bit diffrent then normal. It just won't be as detailed as the actuall pod. One more quick thing how do i put a GB badge in my name?

Absolutely did. I was pretty hot on picking up that kit, then read his review where he made it sound like a dog. Now that I've seen yours, it's back on the list. Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

I couldn't agree more. It's ncie to see all of the builds start pouring in like this!

Probably not completely. To his credit, he actually has built both versions and knows a lot more about the dimensional accuracy of the aircraft that I ever will. I just think he overlooked the nice engineering of the Kinetic kit and places a lot less value on recessed panel lines than I do. If you'd read his review it would turn you off to the kit and I just wanted to get an alternative view out there.

Hellcat,

Looking good.  Are the instrument panels painted, decals or photo etch?

That's a real nice job you did on that target, er, T-71 M1 Smile [:)]

Here are a couple of photographic updates of my work on the P2V7 Neptune.  The pictures are from the masking of the final painting, the wing/tail fin walk ways for crewmen.  Since I took the pictures I've managed to attach nearly all of the remaining detail pieces and it is sitting in the garage drying right now.  I hope to print some custom decals tomorrow night and get this bird finished by Sunday and present it to my step-dad next week.

Okay guys, my Cold Warrior is ready...err until I noticed a few touch ups needed in the pics. Here she is: the Kinetic 1/48 F-84F Thunderstreak. This plane was in the MO National Guard. Built strictly OOB.

I took the pics with and without pics for different effects. Of the several gaffs, I noticed the Pitot tube and the front landing gear door have some overspray. They were touched up .

As I've written all along, this was a fun kit. The most trouble I had was with the canopy, but it was purley user error. I was in a hurry and kept making mistakes and had to redo several areas.

Thanks for looking.
