SdKfz 251/17 Luftwaffe (lots of ) Finished Pics
Posted by wing_nut on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 11:56 PM

This is my entry in the 251 Halftracks GB.  Dragon kit of the SdKfz 251/17 Flak 38 from the “Herman Göring” Div., East Prussia 1944.  The Eduard detail set was added and I scratched the headphone for the radio. And my 1st attempt at welds, on the rear.

Thanks for looking.  Comments and criticism welcome

Wing-nut- This is an outstanding build!!Thumbs Up [tup] It has occured to me though that you have just built something that will shoot down the wingy things that you used to build and protect the "targets" that your currently crancking out. Ironic, huh?

Nice work, Marc.  I like the restraint and scale of your chips and wear....(scotch brite pad?).  Nice build and a nice presentation.

Thnaks for the compliments guys  I ap[reciate them.

Stephen-Yup it's as good an example of irony as I've seenLaugh [(-D]

Jon-I picked up some extremely fine chain at an LHS near me that speacializes in trains.  Can't remeber the LPI... maybe 42?

Rick- I used a piece of foam packing but was thinking that some with a looser pattern might work better. Didn't think of Scotch Brite. Another use for one of my fav tools on the bench.

I sense the force is strong in this one...but can also sense you arent fully letting go...

Couple things wrong with this model:

1) It is only 1/2 tracks...which wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that you have a history of making things with wings???
2)...hmm, can't really find anything else wrong with it...

All joking aside, very nicely done IMO. I love the weathering, which # ground thingy is this?

Beautiful Marc. Man that little lock...........Crazy work! I love that fact that you've made the full transition to the Dark Side by building a flak trap. Haha

Very nice work...looks like you experimented with some fading on the yellow on this one---looks good. I can't get over how nice your small arms and MG's look...top notch...

8?! Sacrificial Bovine!!

That's more than I've built...in my life, haha. I've always enjoyed your wingy things...looks like your armor is going to be just as good, if not better. Keep it up!

Beauty of a job. Love the finish. I concur with manstein on the finish of the tools and especially the rifles. Did you use photo etch for the rifle slings? And how did you go about getting that great finish on the rifles and tools, please do tell.

Just keeps getting better and better with each build WN! Keep it up, the little details to draw the eye on this one are very well done (lock, rifles, etc.) Thumbs Up [tup]

This is first class work good buddy. You've scored well on this one. I love the color, wear patterns and fadeout with the paint. The finish on those rifles is first rate. High quality stuff like this is good for my eyes.

Thnaks for all the comments guys, they are really appreciated.

Tigerman, I am only 99.999999% transformed.  I filed down the firing pin on the gun when no oone was looking.  imagine the sactter as the Jug linesup for a strafing run.Wink [;)]

panzer88, they were made with lead foil from a wine bottle... after the headache went away

Bill, This was one of the builkds i was refering to in your WIP thread about how they have saved my bacon. After spending a few mins trying to figure out the instruction sheet I would go to your log and sure enough you laid all their errors. And there were a lot in this one.

I'm glad the build log for this one was helpful. I recall all too well the number of errors in the instructions...every single step had at least 1 and some had multiples, setting a new standard even for DML in that regard! Laugh [(-D]

Hello,

Nice weathering WN, really brings out the level of detail in the build. Very realistic look. Excellent work. Love the PE work, nicely executed. Bow [bow]
