DAK PZIV ausf E Wreck
Posted by scratchmod on Thursday, February 26, 2009 6:30 PM

Hi all..I'm new to this site and thought I would post some pics of my wreck that I've been working on. She's nearly done, I just have to put everything together and the base.

Some of you guys know me and this model from another web site so please don't get bored with.

Any comments good or bad are most welcome.

Hi Bodge..No it's not a MIG kit, it's all scratch. The motor comp is from CMK. The aux.turret motor under the radiator is scratch. I posted build pics over at armorama site.

OUTSTANDING!! That is a work of art. I'm working on something similar with a T-34 with Jaguar resin parts.

Wow.  Stunning work.

Whats the story ?  Ran over a mine, or hit by tank fire ?

some of the blast damage looks like it came from underneath, the way the metal is mushrooming up, but I couldnt see any side pentration from an incoming round (or was I just not looking hard enough ?)  An internal explosion that would lift off the upper hull ?

I guess I've seen a few photo's of knocked out tanks, but not that many that were destroyed.  Did you have a photo that inspired this ?

Once again, beautiful work !!

Beautiful, man! That's right up my alley--I love old, rusty, blown-up things! Tongue [:P]

It reminds me of my "SPOOKED!" Pz IV that was featured in Finescale, January 2008.

Nice work! I know how hard it is to make one of these look convincingly real!  What's with the base though--is that supposed to be snow?

Wirraway... basically there was an internal fire after getting hit, followed by the stored ammo going off. No there's no snow on the base, it's styrofoam. I started applying sand to the base today.

Here is a pic with sand,it hasn't dried yet.

here are a couple of pics, among the many that I have, that inspired this build.

Doog...love that wreck of yours. I too love to build wrecks, it's more chalenging then a normal static model. What do you use for rust and any chance you'd post a couple more pics of difangles. Here are a couple of recentrust hulks.

It's nice to see that some one else is into wrecked and rusty things.

OH MY GOD, those are STUNNING, scratchmod! I'm seriously jealous!

I'll take some more photos with a better camera tomorrow and post them here! The ones that I have are taken from almost 3 years ago, and you can see the graininess.

Gorgeous work on those wrecks, though! WOW!!!!

Been monitoring your build over on armorama and wonderin' when you'd amble on over here.

This is very first class work. More pictures would be a gift.

Thanks Bill and disastermaster. I'm familiar with the mag but didn't know there was a web site til yesterday, so here I am. Thought I'd post some before paint pics so you could actualy see the details before she was closed up and painted.

It's kinda hard to see the details in these small pics but you see what's been done.

Hi Rob,

I wanted to say, outstanding work!

Do you have a link to some of your WIPs on Armorama? I'd love to read up a little more on how you achieve your finishes. I'm BIG TIME into rusted, old things--don't know if you saw my "Rust Bunnies" car?--but I'm always looking for more info and techniques on making things age. I don't know what it is--the feeling of the history and nostalgia of a rusted old hulk just gets me going. Can you give me a link or ten? LOL!

Here's my car, by the way...

I'm working on thise new photos of the PZ IV too by the way, when I get home...

Hey Doog..love that rust bunnie of yours, with some work it could be restored and up and running again lol.

I posted my models in the wwII armor/afv axis  and constructive feedback forums. Just look for Scratchmod and that's me. The last rust hulk I built is titeled "scrapmetal".

This is cool, I finally found another insane modeller whose into rust like I am.

Keep in mind that many of the ones you see that are destroyed so completely are that way because they were knocked out or broken down but couldn't be repaired/recovered in a timely manner, so engineers blew 'em up in order to prevent their recovery and use by the other side...

A good point Hans. Either way. there still fun to build.

I spent 8 years with combat Eng.and we destroyed plenty of vehicles in Desert Storm. WWII north africa is a good example of Eng's destroying unrepairable tanks.

Wow..nice looking rust buckets. I really like the 57 with the worn paint. What methods did you use on both of those?

    Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

    Rob, that's some fantastic work.

Imo wrecks are some of the hardest thing's to model  (still trying to get the cahonie's to give it a try lol) and it looks like you've got it down to a science.
