Well, i did a bunch of work on the ersatz over the last couple of days...

the turret armor is done, the side skirts r on, and i added a lot of lift hooks
and small fittings to the turret top, mantlet, glacis plate, lower bow plate,
and back plate. the beastie has been painted a dk. green, and circle star
decals applied 2 glacis plate & turret side armor.

so, apart from a few last details like spare tk. racks & the lenses 4 the rear lights, i'm pretty much done w/ this little kittykat !!! joy, joy...Big Smile [:D].

gotta say it turned out pretty well 4 my first major 'plastic surgery ' conversion, altho' if i had 2 do it again, i'd try & do a bit more sanding on the putty & i don't think i nailed the overhang of the rear turret plate... Sad [:(]

but, crude as it may b, it's all mine ! Big Smile [:D] and i love it !!!

pix will b posted tomorrow if all goes well !!!
(i know, now the anticipation will b killing some of u, but u'll just have 2 wait & see... my apologies !)
hope everyone else is having fun w/ their build ...
i can hardly wait 2 see the rest of these projects !

hi, all !
here's the latest news on my project.
took a short break from 'plastic surgery' to work on the drive train:
painted road wheel rubber
installed road wheels, idlers & drive sprockets

then back 2 the styrene stash 2 build more parts:
false backplate installed
false mantlet cut & installed
added step 2 bow plate

didn't get a heck of a lot more done on this, 'cause i'm actually still kinda sick... Sad [:(]Sad [:(]Sad [:(]
but i think i'm still on schedule so far.
it's really beginning 2 look like something now, the shape of the treacherous ersatz begins 2 emerge from the shadows !

pix will b posted asap, i promise !

best wishes & happy modeling,

Here's a couple shots:

Looking good Frosty. I had a bad setback with my scratchbuilt turret. I took a day off and hit it again the day after, second try looks pretty good.
Stick with it. Thumbs Up [tup]

AH HA! here it all is... I have used Ron's site also with no problems...

Now I feel ashamed..Ashamed [*^_^*]..my home computer(Alienware) has about 10 usb2 ports on it and now I learn there are some folk who don't have any.... Kinda like watching one of those Sally Struthers commercials...

I'd like to help with ideas on the skirts but unfortunately I need a visual reference. I know how it is when parts don't fit well.

Looking forward to seeing your updated photos, and congrats on your progress. You are tackling a job I would be afraid to try. Fight on!

Frosty,

good to see that the project is advancing. Re. Ron's gallery, I uploaded pics yesterday, by loggin in on page 2 or 3, rather than from page 1, where there's some kind of bug...

About the skirts, don't worry too much, I too sometimes have to start a scratch part several times over..! If you fail, give it another day and try again. Sometimes it's all it takes!

hi folks !
i'm kinda bummed that nobody had any ideas re: side skirts...Sad [:(] oh well...
did some more work on the ersatz last weekend :
sanding the turret top & glacis/bow plate join
recut flat hatch 'cause i couldn't find the one i cut before...Sad [:(]
added hinge detail 2 hatch
scratchbuilt exhaust pipes from brass tube
painted trax, road wheels, idler wheels & drive sprockets dk. green
painted lower hull dk. yellow
found the package of stirrup steps i lost Smile [:)]
(need 2 add a step 2 bow plate at some point)

i'm hoping 2 upload some pix tomorrow, really !
does anyone know if RonUSMC's gallery is working again, or should i try 2 post on the dedicated site ?
i'm gonna need help posting pix, most likely, if i need 2 post 2 the cronuswarp site....
sorry, i'm majorly IT-challenged... Sad [:(]

OK, here's the report from the shop...

added more putty to the joint between the false glacis & half-round
cut & added the little hatch that covers the machine gun
cut templates for the turret armor sides
put together the main gun

i've been having a little battle w/ the side skirts...
first time they were thin enough, but too long & i couldn't file the thin sheet styrene in place so i pulled 'em off
( they were just tacked on, no big...)

then i used some strip styrene... perfect length but too thick in cross section and the trax wouldn't fit inside the sponsons... not to mention that the skirts now were parallel 2 the slope of the hull instead of plumb
so i pulled 'em off again

last nite i redid the styrene strip mounts 4 the side skirts & cut a template 4 the skirts themselves... but i'm still not totally happy.

the main problem is the front end of the skirts, it curves down below the main horizontal edge so i can't just use a piece of strip exactly the rite height... i'm having trouble getting the curved lower edge smooth & the main horizontal lower edge cut evenly.

i think the template will help, but i'm open 2 any suggestions !
