Update on this one so far is i applied the decals  then cloud sprayed the whitewash then as you can see in the progresive shots i have gradually deteriorated the whitewash coat to reprecent the fading of this water based coat of paint due to wear and tear and deterioration due to weather as well. Still a long way to go on this one . Method so far is mapping and chipping with a brush. Loads more to come.

Looks really good, Bodge. The whitewash looks especially well done. And not to worry about the funny paint colors, I use Tamiya airplane paint a lot......

Cheers Bill, here,s some more. Ive added tonal variations to the paint and weathered it  but as this is a late war vehicle i have not added any rust just made it a very weathered whitewash thats very dirty aswell. Still need to finnish the tools and guns along with the whole of the lower hull ,wheels and tracks. Then i might think of the stowage. None of this is the hairspray or salt method and its all hand painted effects as i wanted a very worn whitewash and not a heavilly chipped one.

Bodge, that is AWESOME!! that is maybe the best white wash I have ever seen, but one question, how did you do the black stain at the end of the main gun in the last photo??

Thanks, Jim

Hi Andy :)

I have been following this, and in the beginning, I wasn't sure where it was going.

You must be a man with keen visonary sense. Your execution to the follow through are tremendious.  I am glad I had the sense to keep checking back.

I love the fact that it is as you said 'hand painted' --i.e. no special new technique, (not to knock special techniques, I use what ever it takes-lol) just nice to  know beautiful things can happen with an airbrush and talented hand!

Cheers everyone who,s looked in on this one and posted, still a long way to go though. Hopefully i can pull it of ok? I like shermans   especially Tamiya ones as they are easy to build, fairly acurate and once painted turn in to quite a respectable model. Not forgetting the price of these too  cheap as chips.Thumbs Up [tup]

The blackened effect was done with watered down dark grey acrylicks , several coats.

Wow Bodge!Bow [bow]Those are some nice Shermans. I'm working on the M7 now and I know that my level is way below what you did here; but, it gives me something to work towards.

NucmedTech im sure yours will turn out just fine and thanks for compliments. I have done the tools and painted the tracks . Tools were done with a coat of light buff acrylik followed by oils. Tracks still need weathering a touch and still have to do running gear but she,s getting there.

My sincerest compliments, Andy--a true stunner!

Your painting is again, top-notch. You know, it's funny, but sometimes, after all the fancy "trick" finishing techniques are dismiised with, sometimes just good "ol' fashioned" hand-painting is, and can be, the perfect application for a technique that just works the best.

You've certainly proved that! My hat's off to you! Bow [bow]

But the best thing about your posts are the little British expressions I pick up from you--"cheap as chips" Big Smile [:D] --I'll have to use that when I'm "over there" inect week for most of the summer! Wink [;)]

Well, technically over to Europe--I'm leaving the 10th of June, and will be hitting Finland, France, Spain, Norway, Romania, and Germany. All large summer festivals, all on the weekends. I won't be back until JUly 26th or so?

My summer racing season is totally shot.... Sigh [sigh]

Great work Andy, a white wash is very difficult to pull off, in the old days of the "Verlinden Way" there was a lot of drybrushing and lots of modellers found it a very hit or miss affair.

Well Andy you "HIT" that nail square on the head again.

Terry.

In the words of Phil "The Scooter" Rizzuto...

HOLY COW!

Andy that is really sweet.  Ditto what doog said about good old fashioned hand painting techniques.  the trick techiques are used cuz they are usually easier.  that takes a real talent.

I know this will break Steve's heart, but it make me wantto start on my Sherman. Sorry redleg... it won't be green Wink [;)]
