Cheap Tamiya kit, With this kit i have added weld beads, cast texture and rolled steel effects to the turret sides and the glacier plate , added cast effects to cupuler and ball mount and gun housing. Ive added handles to tool brackets ,wing nuts to cable brackets and a few more scratch built details like grab handles and arial and torch cutting marks to steel plates.I think its about ready for some paint now. This is gonna be hard edge camo in three colours and dots with a faded look.

~Bodge takes on a heavyweight ! Yeah, I'd really like to see what you do with this. Construction looks tight, figure choice, just right.

I for one hope to see a detailed painting thread as this developes & have fun !

I almost forgot to post my 2 cents. I like what you've done with that Tamiya kit, Sign - Ditto [#ditto] as far as the texturing is concerned, looks great. Keep the up dates coming Andy, this is going to be cool to see when done.

Cheers guys for all the comments, I have decided to go down another avenue with this one and im gonna do a single colour late war version in the Adam Wilder style of colour modulation as i love the look of his builds lately. So first of im gonna mix up some light sand colour with a touch of yellow and base coat the whole vehicle,

Then im spraying on a darker shade to all the bottom of the tank and all areas of where the light would not hit.

I have also sprayed the drivers hatch surroud a darker shade for some contrast

I have now added the highlights to the uppersections and areas where the light would hit ie the tops of the fenders, the turret top and top of the sides and the engine deck and top of the glacier plate. This was followed by a black brown wash to details and crevases.

I then did the oil dot treatment keeping light colours to top sides and areas of light.

Next i gave the entire model a coat of satin clear and when dry i added dry transfer markings.

Then i have started to do the negative chipping in a lighter base coat to the engine deck followed by the turret.

In the next shots you can see the dark to light contrast on the rear of the vehicle which when painted like this it adds to the depth of the vehicle and helps the details jump out when they are highlighted.

Now im starting on the micro chipping in a black grey colour which is painted inside the light chipping but be care full as to not overdo this stage as it can easily become unreal lookin. Less is more as they say and keep the most chipping to areas of wear from the crew ie around hathes and where they would climb up and so on.

Thats it for now but i think thats enough to keep the dial up boys going for a week, sorry lads.

Im enjoying this oneThumbs Up [tup]

Ansy, that's a brave and unusual color choice for a King Tiger, but you're pulling it off really admirably. It looks outstanding. The chips and color fading is looking really nicely rendered.

Bodge,
Monochromatic is a hard one to pull off well (at least for me) but, you have done so exquisitely! I really like how you have pulled off the chipping and, the shading, especially on the lower portions of the turret.

Cheers

Thanks guys, Karl i have gone for one that is very late on near the end of the war inGermany that hasnt recieved any camo paint as they just wanted to get the thing out and into battle, Thats my thoughts on it anyway but as Adam Wilder put out a Jagdtiger and a panther two in the same kind of colour i thought why not.

You might try adding some oxide red primer inside those scratches too.

Tom you must have read my mind, last night i added the colour to the tracks , added red primer scratches and added primer colour to a couple of the spare track hangers just for a splash of colour. Ive added more high lights and low lights to the turret as im trying to bounce the light arround a bit on this one and make the single colour more interesting. here are some updates on the turret and ive included a couple of pics of Adams work just so you can see what has inspired this build, Cheers men, over and out.

Brilliant, Andy!

I understand the idea; it works well, and the tank certainly reflects the look--beautiful finish!!

Andy

That is some great work there.  I've been really interested in color modulation as well (since Rick Lawlers Marder was in FSM a couple months ago), but kind of botched it on the arty piece I was trying it out on.  Your build is giving me the 'gumption' to go try it again.

As always, I'm anxious to see more!

I like where this one is headed Andy, making some good progress and the multiple shots show off how you're handling the different surfaces and the color tones. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi, Andy, great work. Your detailing and painting have yet again breathed new life into an older kit. Just beautiful.

I'm very new to modelling Bodge. I must say that this Tiger is a stunner! If I can ever build something half that awesome I'll be very happy!

It's got me interested in adding the chipping effect-I'll be trying it out on my current WIP.

Any tips you can offer greatly appreciated buddy!

Latest update on this is i have been working on the Hull, doing the highlights of colour and progresively working on shading and the chipping phaze, soon be on the tools and cables. The diferent tones are working very well and are making the single colour very interesting,This is very infectious and i cant leave it alone for long. In the flesh it is a very diferent model from anything ive done before and im happy with how its going.
