M4 Sherman Normandy
Posted by spacepacker on Friday, November 20, 2009 1:02 PM

Dragons M4 Normandy.

I am always hesitant in showing to my Peers, but thats how I learn.

Your comments and advice will be appreciated

I paint with a brush and I've tried to get a "Dusty" finish, I don't think I have got it right!.

Oh yes, when moving the model to photograph I dropped it and knocked off the starboard rear light; Can't find it.

The stowage is loose at the moment, I will probably cover it with a net.

I have built Dragon kits before ie:- their 88 and that was a good kit for the money.

This one is not IMHO, I started with a large box full of plastic and I still have a large box full of plastic. Having spares is very useful I know but I wanted to buy a kit not a box full of spares!.

Look forward to hearing from you..cheers...Kenny

PS, the weather here in England is so bad; I've had to use flash.

The colour looks spot on...the weathering is great especially the rust are on the front hull.

Two thumbs up and one left toe.

Packer I can't do that well with my air brush.Thumbs Up [tup]

I might have put a little silver in the lights before I put the lenes on and drilled out those MGs a little more and a spot of black in the barrel of the main gun. Just nit pickin because it looks some good otherwise.

Very nice! No Oopses seen that really draws attention. That taillight loss would certainly send me in to a blue streak of colorful language. You know it will turn up in about 6 months when you are looing for something else. The headlights are interesting. From the sides they look painted over, but head on they look like real headlights that are dusty.

Paint-brushed? I'm amazed. Beautiful job overall.

Other then the extra-parts, were there any other problems?

That's really nice work packer!  Amazing work you did with a paintbrush...if you didn't say anything I would have thought it was airbrushed!  Looks like a very nice kit, extra parts not withstanding!

OK, stop holding out. What color did you use? That is a very nice finish on the Sherman.
There is one thing about the rear shot that looked a bit off. If the tracks were that dirty with what appears to be wet/damp soil I would expect that there would be a bit more cast off from the tracks on the the rear of the tank. IMO.
A very solid build sir.
I feel your pain about weather. Our 7-8 month rain festival is fully underway here in the Pacific Northwest.
Cheers

The spot mentioned above seems to be where the paint rubbed off, revealing the cream colored DS plastic.  That is the only flaw I see Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks for your very kind remarks, need some help tho'. Ive tried to show some damage from a burst of something like a heavy m/c gun. I don't think I've "pulled it off". what do you think?.

Pv Mutt, yes some dark colour in the barrels would be right. The flash shows that up, so thanks for pointing to that.

Tiger man, there kit is good, no pin, sink or flash to bother with and the fit is very good.

However; the is a big inaccuracy between the two halves of the turret and some work was necessary to correct this and maintain the weld line.

Bob, I use Acrylics; the cheapest I can find (£1.00) per for 59mm. I use them straight out of the bottle but some times I will thin with water.

Dave, the colour I mixed myself. I only have a few colours and I find that as long as I have the primary colours and just a few secondary colours I'm OK.

An artist Colour wheel is very useful, you can get them from most art shops.

Thanks to all..cheers...kenny

The others have pointed out all the things that I noticed, the only suggestion I would make is to perhaps had some lightly dry-brushed metal wear to the contact points on the sprocket teeth and the surface of the idler edge where it would contact the guide horns. The use of the flash is making some of the contrasts (inevitably) show up more pronounced than they would be otherwise, very nice work all around on this one Kenny! Thumbs Up [tup]
